May Photo-a-Day

I realize we are now 5 days into June, making this post a little late, but I wanted to share my collection of May Photo-a-Day pictures with you all.  Also, please remind me not to commit to these challenges anymore, as I kept forgetting to put my picture up and half of these never even made it onto Instagram.  Oops!  All forgetfulness aside, May was a fantastic month and I’m ready to start June on a happy note.

“I bought this!”  New hot pink running shoes.  I’m very loyal to my Brooks.

IMG_3118

“Morning ritual” I think I have my dad to thank for my tea drinking obsession.  Although I think he drinks about 5x as much as I do per day.  I’ve been in love with this lemon ginger tea for years.

IMG_3154

“This is really good!”  If I have to be home sick on a Friday night, at least I can watch the Rockies game from bed.

IMG_3158

“In my cup”  An iced latte at the Wooden Spoon, possibly the cutest little breakfast place I’ve ever been to.

IMG_3195

“Paper”  Program and ticket to Mary Poppins at the Buell Theater in Denver as part of Joey’s mom’s birthday celebration.  Thank you, Lori!!

IMG_3220

“Broken”  There’s nothing like asparagus season.

IMG_3224

“Something beginning with F”  My feet, kicking back after a day at work.  My fashion sense can’t be replicated.

IMG_3229

“Shape”  Not sure if I was referring to the shape of these donuts or what they might do to your shape if you eat too many…

IMG_3235

“Snack”  Cough drops: the snack of the sick.

IMG_3236

“Stars”  I love this album of Ellie Goulding’s.  We’re actually seeing her in concert (with Bruno Mars!!) later this summer and I could not be more excited.

IMG_3582

“A smile”  Okay, is anyone else laughing at the disinterested look on Hunni’s face?

IMG_3297

“Mother”  My own mother, my sister and I on Mother’s Day.

IMG_3324

“Sunset”  Larimer Street on a warm Monday night in Denver.  Joey and I spent a lovely anniversary dining al fresco at Rioja.  I was in my happy place.

IMG_3330

“Need”  Believe me when I say this pre-Vegas pedicure was much needed.  I wish I remembered the name of that color because I love it!

IMG_3337

“7 O’Clock”  Just finishing up at the gym.

IMG_3345

“Mailbox”  I’ll consider myself a real adult when I check my mail and actually have stuff in there.  For now, it’s basically Cooking Light and our city newspaper, which is about 5 pages long.

IMG_3347

“Season”  Nothing says spring like blossoms on the trees.  Or in Colorado’s case, nothing says spring like freak snowstorms one day and blossoms on the trees the next.

IMG_3372

“Want”  I really wish I could remember the exact description of this burger on the menu.  I just know that it was delicious, especially alongside a beer and 3 sides of fries 😛

IMG_3412

“My favorite view”  Nuff said.

IMG_3451

“Light”  That would be a psychedelic image of Jim Morrison during the light show down on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.  He was only 27 when he died — tragic!

IMG_3512

“I care about this”  Or more like “I care about these.”  I came across this picture of my parents on my sister’s phone.  She took it in front of our hotel in Vegas and I find it hysterical.  I wish I had seen my mom doing this in person!

IMG_3540

“Change”  Confession: Joey always leaves change on our kitchen counter and I always snag it and add it to my change collection.  Which I keep in a little cupcake-shaped container I painted when I was about 10.  And Joey may or may not be reading this over my shoulder right now, so I guess the secret’s out.

IMG_3578

“PJs”  I no longer know the difference between my pajamas and my work-out clothes.  But pairing it with slippers automatically makes it pajamas, right?

IMG_3577

“Go”  Green light on a cloudy morning drive to work.

IMG_3526

“Us”  Joey and I at the Boulder Farmer’s Market on a very busy Saturday morning.  All busy-ness aside, the weather was beautiful and the pupusas were delicious.

IMG_3539

“Fave thing to do on Sunday”  There’s nothing better than a lazy Sunday morning with a cup of tea, a delicious breakfast and some Food Network going on in the background.  True Story: I love watching “Sandwich King” on Sunday mornings.  Jeff Mauro is so fun — I bet the camera crew has a blast filming him and how adorable is his son Lorenzo??

IMG_3559

“Can’t live without”  Uh no, not referring to that Michelob Ultra — blech!  Referring to my two Bolder Boulder companions.  I look forward to hanging out with these two at Folsom Field every Memorial Day.

IMG_3613

“What you’re doing now”  Snacking on some Nut Thins and hummus.  I forgot how much I love these crackers until I saw them on sale and grabbed two boxes last week.

IMG_3587

“Kiss”  Doesn’t he look like he’s enjoying my affection?

IMG_3593

“Tool”  Work tools.  For the record, those highlighters stood up like that all on their own.

IMG_3604

“Four things”  Four perfectly crispy sweet potato fries at Friday night’s dinner at Park Burger.  Does anyone else remember not even knowing what sweet potato fries were?  They’re everywhere now!

Weekend Things

This weekend was, in a word, perfect.  I mean, I wouldn’t have minded a little less wind, but in the scheme of things, a little wind isn’t so bad.  We started things off on Friday with a fun (and cheap!) dinner in the Highlands, aka my favorite neighborhood in Denver.  I surprised Joey by taking him to a new-to-us restaurant, Park Burger.

IMG_3600

We had the patio to ourselves for a quick pre-Rockies game dinner of beer, burgers and some perfectly crispy sweet potato fries.

I think he liked it!

IMG_3605

It was a beautiful night at Coors Field, but we were facing a really good pitcher and neither of us had high hopes for a win.  We ended up ditching out early.  I swear it was Joey’s idea not mine for once.

IMG_3610

Saturday morning, we participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk with a team Hannah organized.  Our team raised over $1000 and walked a 5K.  I was really proud of all of us.

IMG_3620

It was a little chilly (without the sun) but for the most part, the walk down 15th street was really enjoyable.  I love a good excuse to hang out in downtown Denver.  The cool brick buildings, guessing how much some of the lofts probably cost and making a mental note of any breweries was really fun.

IMG_3618

We were also given these pedometers.  By the end of the walk, everyone else had raked up numbers in the 9000-range and I was back in the 7000’s.  I don’t know how that happened but I was also closest to the 5K distance so I assume this pedometer was designed around someone with my stride 😛

IMG_3623

We happened upon the Denver Chalk Art Festival during the walk so afterwards, Hannah, Josh, Joey and I walked back over to check out the exhibits.  It was much cooler than it’s been in past years.  I’m sure the artists, who sit out on Larimer street for two full days, appreciated the clouds.  None of the pieces were too far along yet, but you could tell which ones were going to turn out really cool.

IMG_3624

Eventually we wandered over to 16th Street for some pizza.  Hannah has been talking up Mellow Mushroom for months so I was really excited to try it for myself.  Although the 16th Street location doesn’t have a giant psychedelic mushroom in the middle of the floor, the vibe was still very “mellow,” with a bunch of wacky mushroom drawings on the walls and bright blue lights everywhere.

IMG_3626

Also, $5 beer flights?  Yes please!  I got the wheat flight and Hannah got the seasonal sampler.  It only took us the entire length of lunch to decide which of Hannah’s beers was which, since they weren’t written in the menu like mine were.

IMG_3628

I ordered the small Kasmic Karma and it was delicious!  Like best pizza I’ve ever had.  It was ooey gooey and the crust was the perfect thickness.  Plus everything is better with a pesto swirl.  I can also vouch that Hannah and Joey’s pies were just as tasty.

IMG_3632

The highlight of Saturday night was an Indie double feature — Safety Not Guaranteed and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind — and froyo!  It’d been forever since we’d had froyo and this totally hit the spot.  I convinced Joey to put boba on his and they were so strange.  I felt like I was trying to eat one of those bath balls.  In other news, I loved both of the movies.  I can’t believe I’d never seen Eternal Sunshine but what a interesting, creative and thought-provoking movie.

IMG_3637

Today has been a delightful mix of work — lovely early morning run, grocery shopping, dishes — and relaxation — Rockies game, watching the Next Food Network Star premier and cooking a delicious dinner.  I think we sat in our seats for about two pitches before I felt like I was going to melt and forced Joey to go stand in the shade with me.  We won so I don’t think he minded.

I’m so not ready for this weekend to end.
