Weekend Things

Hello and Happy Monday πŸ‘‹ We had a really good weekend! Three home-cooked dinners, time outside, Joey and I watched a whole movie (and finished the final season of Barry!) and Dempsey started Saturday morning soccer!!!! So fun, we had the best time and Coach Joe did such a good job managing his team of Orange Iguanas all by himself. Truly felt like summer and I’m so happy to be here finally 🀍

Joey had a golf tournament Friday morning so he was off bright and early and I got to get the kids up — always time to cuddle with baby sis! — and over to Grandma’s then went home to look for this flamingo keychain Dempsey kept asking me about. Located it under his Mercedes πŸ˜‚ Made a really good dinner of honey-chipotle grilled chicken thighs, Mexican rice and plantains for dinner then chased Dempsey around the backyard to get him to eat any of it πŸ˜… After kiddo bedtime, we watched the finale of Top Chef and what a good season it was!

Sorry to spam you with soccer photos but what a good morning we had! Actually, I’m just remembering it was a mad dash to get out the door β€” timing baby feedings around other plans continues to be a stressful time for me β€” and Dempsey had a meltdown over bubbles on our walk to the park but once we got there, we had the best time. Joey volunteered as coach and I was so impressed by him. He was so good with the kids and they seemed pretty on task, especially compared to the team on the next field where kids were running off and crying the whole time πŸ˜… Demps had quite the crowd and kept wandering over to stand with us but he participated a good bit too! He’s one of the youngest on the team. Baby sis took a nap then got to hang with Aunt Bean πŸ’ž

Post afternoon naps, we played outside and then Joey made smash burgers for us and maybe set off all the fire alarms in the process πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Worth it though because these were really good and Dempsey ran right over to the table and devoured his mini burger! I was so happy to see it. He’s getting way better at eating stuff like tacos and sandwiches, instead of the deconstructed versions and it’s truly the cutest! After the kids were asleep, Joey and I started Air but paused halfway through to go to bed ourselves. Lydia has been struggling with falling and staying asleep on her own the past few days and it’s killing us all but we’re toughing it out and hoping it’s just a phase.

We were deciding between two different coffee shops Sunday morning but landed on Weathervane CafΓ©, which we hadn’t been to in SO long. Had the whole upstairs to ourselves which was good considering Dempsey wouldn’t stay still. He ended up eating more of my breakfast sandwich than the oatmeal we got him, but I’m happy to share. He found a “cool spot” to eat it in too πŸ˜‚ Miss Lydia is suddenly very into anything we’re eating, which is a good sign for starting her on solids at the end of this month but does make it rather difficult to hold her AND eat.

Back at home, I went for a run, Joey went for a run, Dempsey had lunch — he wanted he and Baby Sis to wear my bobby pins afterward πŸ₯Ί — and then I did salads and prepped dinner before Joey and I sat down to finish our movie during afternoon nap time. I thought it was just okay. An interesting story even if we all know how it’s going to end. But just so many needle drops and bordering on cheesy. After Demps was up from his nap, he and Joey built a putting green — Joey is literally insane for letting Dempsey hammer a nail anywhere near his fingers — and it turned out so cute! Sat down to bowls of red beans and rice for dinner and I wasn’t sure if Dempsey would be into it but he was VERY into it! My heart was so happy when he asked for seconds. We put the kids to bed and finished Barry and I felt kind of disappointed by the ending. Anyone else? Wishing you all a happy week!

Weekend Things

This weekend felt so nice. We had a fairly busy Saturday but the rest of the weekend felt very low-key and relaxed. I’m all for that as we enter the busy-ness of summer 😎

Happy babies on Friday morning! I took them over to Grandma’s, then headed home to go on a run, do some work and head into Louisville to see my mom for a massage. Hadn’t had an appointment with her since my first trimester with Lyds?? So it had been too long. My parents have moved into a new office, so I got to check it out for the first time and it was so nice. Joey brought the kids home that evening and we just did leftovers, so it was easy-peasy. We’ve been sitting Lyds in her highchair so she’s comfortable in it by the end of the month when she starts solids?!?! How did we get here so fast?? Hopefully she’s as good with that spoon as Dempsey was 😊 Joey and I watched Top Chef after the kids went to bed and… I was sad about the ending. Excited for the finale though!

Joey was up early on Saturday so he had Greek yogurt pancake batter ready to go by the time I got up, fed Lyds and made it downstairs. So good and fluffy!!! Dempsey is so into drawing right now and I love seeing what his little brain comes up with. He told me that little face was Coco πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜ He also wanted me to lay on the stairs with him to look up at the ceiling. Joey had a meeting at 10 because he’s coaching Dempsey’s soccer league that starts this Saturday! Sounds like it’s going to be wild but fun πŸ˜„ While Demps went down for his nap, Lydia and I ate lunch and a purple straw πŸ˜‹

The second half of the day included a mani/pedi for me — I took that pic while I was sitting with Lydia on the floor and now I’m realizing it looks like I’m trying to push her πŸ˜‚πŸ˜¬ — a really messy chocolate snack for Dempsey and a date night for Joey and I! Grandpa Steve and Lorna were kind enough to watch the kids so my sis, Wayne, Joey and I could all go see a movie. It’d been ages since we all went together! What can I say about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse except that I loved every single second? The animation is astounding, the character work is beautiful, the plot is genuinely interesting and surprising and well, it’s just incredibly witty. We all really liked it! The kids were mostly asleep by the time we got home and it sounded like they had a good night too 🀍

After our later-than-usual Saturday night, we all slept in on Sunday! Joey was still up first, so he made us all egg sandwiches and mine was extra good. Basil mayo, bacon and eggs two ways. I think I’m ruined for bagel sandwiches now! The rest of the day was really mellow. Joey and I did some toy clean-out/reorganization while Lydia napped and then the boys headed out to buy some shin guards, plus a soccer ball and net for Dempsey and then while both kids napped, Joey worked and I made salads for the week. Dress up for sis afterward apparently and then just leftovers for dinner and bedtime for the kids. Joey and I watched some of the Nuggets game, finished Season 3 of I Think You Should Leave and watched the first episode of the final season of Barry (finally!) then went to bed ourselves. Feeling actually rested and ready for the week, what a concept! Happy Monday!
