Whew, somehow both the weekend and the month of July have flown by and I’m left feeling very dazed. I know we saw a movie, Dempsey and Joey went to Elitch’s, I cooked dinner for the first time in a long time and we finally put my birthday to rest with one last family celebration, but everything else is a blur 🤪

A few words on “Barbenheimer” and how I managed to book a vacation for the same weekend as a double release of two movies I was really looking forward to seeing and somehow became the moviegoers event of the year?! 🤦🏻♀️ We snuck Barbie in last Wednesday and what a hilariously fun time it was! Definitely been quoting it ever since and dancing around with Dempsey to that perfect soundtrack. And then Joey and I hit up Oppenheimer in a packed IMAX theater on Friday afternoon and WOW. I don’t know what I was expecting but I LOVED it. We were both really amazed and highly recommend seeing it on the biggest screen possible, if you haven’t been yet. I’m also still recovering from The Exorcist trailer they showed beforehand 😱😱😱 Picked the kids up afterward and just had a low-key rest of the night. Lyds seemed extra tired so we kind of felt like something was off for her.

Saturday started with sour cream blueberry pancakes and Dempsey’s fluffy hair 😂😍 Lydia seemed pretty miserable all morning so we made the decision for she and I to skip the company picnic at Elitch’s. Demps and Joey had fun though! He rode the carousel, got a balloon animal, a dinosaur tattoo, a cool light up watch and got to see Landon, Delaney and Bailey. Meanwhile, Miss Lydia was tired and cranky but it was nice having some one on one time with her. Reminded me of that first year with Dempsey, except one feels infinitely easier when you’re used to having two 😂

Put that tired boy down for a late nap when they got back and then when he was back up, we had a cherry snack and played until 5 when I started our dinner. I hadn’t cooked in SO long and you would think I’d be ready but I more missed a home cooked meal and not necessarily the preparing or cleaning up afterward 😅 But this salmon dinner was really really good. We let Lyds try some of the salmon and I was genuinely terrified but she had no allergic reaction and even seemed to really like it! Thank goodness because this is a family that eats salmon on the regular! Laid in the grass together and shot a Nerf gun into the air after dinner and these are the moments you live for and I mean that in all seriousness 🤍

Planned to go on a Sunday morning run but my girl had other plans for me that involved not sleeping. I let Joey take her downstairs at 5:30 so I could get another hour and then he and Dempsey picked up breakfast sandwiches for us. Someone may or may not have slapped a glass of OJ off the table because they “wanted a steamer!” so that was fun. The rest of the day was pretty laid back. I had made salads on Saturday afternoon so I felt like I had nothing to do and that was pretty nice. I did go get my hair cut that afternoon and then we headed to Steve and Lorna’s at 2:30 for dinner, dessert and presents for Lauren and I’s birthdays. Not going to lie, it’s fun being a set of Laurens! Dempsey had fun playing with marbles, feeding the fish, using the golf simulator and eating ice cream cake but damn, he was a little monster at bedtime. If anyone has some tips on how to get your toddler to eat real food at social gatherings so they don’t return home tired, hungry and strung out on sugar, please let me know 😅
Hoping for at least one good night of sleep this week so I can feel human again but until then I’ll be crying and thinking of Oppenheimer 😂🤪😋
