Weekend Things

We had a really good weekend! Probably helped that we had one date night and then two full days of being home with the kids and no plans, so we got so much done and had a lot of play time too!

Dropped our babies off at Grandma’s then had a little fall photo shoot 😋 Worked most of the day but also had our groceries delivered and tried the internet’s method for washing and storing strawberries, so we’ll see how it goes! By 5:30, Joey was home with the kids, I had picked up Illegal Pete’s and my sis and Wayne were at our house so we could all eat together before Joey and I left to see a movie. We saw the Denver Film Fest’s showing of All of Us Strangers and I really really liked it! Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal were so good and it was somehow haunting and moving at the same time. Never seen anything like it! Also, the director was there to accept and award and do a Q&A and that was very cool. I heard Dempsey was sad and missed us but I think they all still had a fun night 🤍

Woke up and made us all French toast. Both my kids were completely infatuated with the salad spinner while I was cooking 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ Lydia took a nice long morning nap so I was able to take Dempsey to his swim lesson and back home without her even knowing I was gone (Joey was home with her obviously!). In the afternoon, both Joey and I got in a run, both kids got in a nap and we got some indoor and outdoor clean up done. Made sheet pan chicken and veggies for dinner and it was a hit with everyone 🙌🏻 For a while there, dinner was a chaotic twenty minutes of Lydia standing up in her high chair and Dempsey throwing food but we got a new chair for Lyds and the message seems to finally be sinking in with Dempsey so dinner is almost peaceful again?? ✊🪵 Afterward, Demps wanted popcorn and how could we saw no?! After the kids went to bed, I watched GBBO and Joey took a nap 😂 and then we watched the beginning of SNL and went to bed ourselves.

Sunday started off on the right foot thanks to Snooze delivery! I had scheduled it the night before and would like to thank myself for a super easy breakfast. Lydia is suddenly just using a spoon and fork and it’s the absolute cutest! Later on, she took another really good morning nap, so I was able to get all my winter clothes out, my summer/Rockies clothes packed away and some other drawers cleaned out. Then the three of us played outside (including planting some crocuses for the spring!) until it was time for lunch. Our blow up turkey broke, so while Dempsey was down for his nap, Joey brought it inside to fix it. We thought he was going to be so excited to see it in the living room, but when I brought him downstairs, he just said “what is that doing in here??” 😂😂

My parents get together with my sister and Wayne most Sundays and my mom always invites us, just for me to decline, but since we’d had so much time to get everything done at home already, I said yes! My mom had sweet potato fries, roasted Brussels, and burger patties all ready to go and then my sis grilled the burgers to perfection and we had a good good dinner 🤤 Dempsey got hold of a tiny jar of jelly halfway through his meal and then slathered everything in it. In that photo, he was yelling “JELLY!” That boy 😂😂 After dinner, Lydi “helped” Grandma with the dishes and then when Dempsey was making my parents run laps through the hallway, I basically ordered us all to leave and go home. It was so nice having someone else cook us Sunday night dinner and get home to no dishes or clean up! Maybe I should say yes to my mom’s invitations more often 😉

Happy Monday!

Weekend Things

Hello and how are you surviving the time change?? Dempsey has never ever been affected so I figured we’d have to pay for it with Lydia and so far, I’ve been right! They were both up early on Sunday and girlfriend was up from 3:30 to 4:30 last night ready to party?? Seasoned parents, please tell me this is temporary! We had a fun weekend but why does it feel like there’s just not enough time for fun AND chores??

I’ve always loved a November sunrise and they have been breathtaking this year! Got the kids to Grandma’s then headed straight to my manicure and I’m loving this sage green vibe. Joey brought the kiddos home and I had Blue Pan pizza waiting for everyone ☺️ Post-pizza, we had a dance party to “Dance the Night Away” on repeat and Dempsey screaming “when my heart breaks!” is now a core memory for me 😂

Saturday started with apple cider donut pancakes. A little bit time consuming but delicious! Then Joey and Dempsey were gone for most of the morning. First, making horseshoes and having fun at Home Depot then to Dempsey’s swim lesson. Back at home, Lydia graced me with an hour and a half-long nap that let me get some stuff done around the house (including unpacking our family holiday pajamas!) and then I was able to put Dempsey down for his nap and take my girl for a long walk around the lake. It was too nice not to get outside! At 2:30, Lori came over to hang with the kids while Joey and I headed to our Denver Film Fest showing of The Taste of Things. We liked but didn’t love it. The cooking scenes are truly astounding but the plot left us wanting. The kids had fun while we were gone and even got a visit from Delaney!

A Sunday that started at 5:50 AM 😅 I guess our sweet children just wanted us to get a head start on the day. Joey was already up, so he grabbed them while I laid in bed a bit longer but once we were all up, we loaded up the stroller and walked to get coffee. Did I mention the weather was beautiful this weekend?? Spent the rest of the morning trying to get some laundry and meal prep done before our matinee showing of MAMMA MIA! I’ve wanted to see it at The Buell for YEARS and it did not disappoint! It’s just undeniable! Got some picture updates of the kids from Grandma Sheila 🤍 Got home, said goodbye to our clan of babysitters, finished cooking dinner, then got the kids to bed. I was so tired and kept feeling like it was much later than it actually was. Here’s to a quick adjustment to the time change for us all!
