Weekend Things

What a weekend! I feel like June/summer are off with a bang and I’m truly loving it. I switched my Wednesday and Friday and had the day off the kids, so we met up with a couple of my friends from book club and had such a fun time at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science! Then our first day of soccer (more on that later…) and our company picnic at Elitch’s on Saturday. Recovered on Sunday with a leisurely breakfast and stroll to the Farmers’ Market then just played/did chores at home before having a fun taco (& margaritas for the adults) dinner. Looking forward to a normal week before another jam-packed weekend!

Joey had a Friday morning golf tournament so I want endless credit for getting the kids up and ready and fed and out the door to get to the museum by 9 AM (we were actually a bit early!) πŸ˜‚ I got to meet my friends’ 7(ish) month olds for the first time and man are they cute! Meanwhile, my two were running around so I was glad to have some help chasing them. Back at home, Lydi read to herself then went down for a nap while Dempsey and I ate lunch and relaxed. Joey came home later on to pick the two of them up and take them to Chad’s to feed the fish while I made us dinner. We hadn’t had this quick veggie curry in sooooo long but everyone loved it.

Tried to put the kids to bed together in the same room but it was mass chaos, so we moved Lydia back into ours and decided we’d try again another day. It was truly the sweetest watching Dempsey try to console her though πŸ₯ΊπŸ€ I was so excited to watch Hit Man after the kids went to bed and it did not disappoint! We are truly in the summer of Glen Powell and I am here for it. I will say the movie took a turn toward the end that I didn’t totally jive with but the rest was good fun.

Lydia was up early on Saturday, so Joey got up with her and they made giant pancakes for all of us. Around 9:40, we loaded the kids in the stroller and walked over to the park for Dempsey’s first soccer practice and it was… quite the show from him. He kept telling us “his legs were too tired” and went full limp noodle mode for the entire 45 minutes we were there. I’m trying to brush it off, but I was sad. Hopefully next week is better! Sissy had fun at least πŸ˜‚

We walked back home and got right in the car to head to Elitch’s. Rode the carousel first thing then made it over to the tent where our company picnic was being held. I feel like there’s never enough time to talk to everyone, but I got to chat with a handful of people and chase the kids around for a bit before Lydi and I took off to get her a nap. I feel like my truest self is to be extremely protective of my children’s sleep, so sorry not sorry πŸ˜… Joey and Dempsey stayed and ended up riding a bunch of the kids rides, which I was so surprised and impressed by! I think they had a good good time. Lydia and I picked them up later on, then went home for dinner leftovers and baths. Attempt #2 to put them to bed together was way more successful. I maybe sang to them through the camera for fifteen minutes but hey, whatever it takes!

A happy happy Sunday! We had a quick and easy breakfast before heading out to the Farmers’ Market. Got some strawberries & tomatoes, plus pink lemonade and a donut for the kids. It was gluten free and I’m sorry, but it was the strangest texture πŸ˜‚ Back at home, much playing, movie watching and chore doing before I left to get my hair cut. When I got back, the neighbor kids were asking for Dempsey, so he and Joey went over to play and then Lydi and I joined when she was up from her nap. I had some beef in the crock pot and had made a strawberry simple syrup earlier in the day, so tacos and margaritas for dinner! It all turned out really good and Dempsey was straight spooning pico de gallo in his mouth (which is interesting considering he complains about onions being in anything else πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ). Tried to get in a game of Chutes & Ladders after dinner, but the kids ran away and Joey and I played by ourselves. For the record, I won πŸ˜‹ Got those babies to bed together again (!!!) and watched the penultimate episode of The Crown. I can’t believe we’ve almost finished, I didn’t think we’d ever get there.

Happy Monday!

Weekend Things

We had a really good weekend because: It’s June! It’s Summer! We went fishing! Being outside is the best! Also, these babies are just sleeping so so so much better and I feel human again, instead of tired and impatient. Hallelujah!

I dropped the kids off at Grandma’s on Friday morning, then snuck in a run, got some work done and headed out to get my nails done. Dempsey told me to get orange, so I did and I love the color! Joey brought the kids home later on and then we had pork burrito bowls for dinner. Got the kids bathed and in bed before watching Top Chef 😊

We had a fun little Saturday adventure 🀍 Bob, Becca and their two girls were up camping at Carter Lake and invited us up for lunch and fishing! They were kind enough to feed us all and the four kids did some laps in their camper afterward πŸ˜‚ We were just about to head to the lake when it started sprinkling, so we took refuge in the tent that had set up outside. That is, until the wind started blowing so hard that the sides of the tent were popping inward! We all rushed back to the camper but it blew over pretty quick and we were still able to drive to the lake. I don’t think we ever really had a shot at catching any fish, but it was a fun time anyway. We got covered in red dirt and put our feet in the water to cool off. I think everyone had fun! I thought both kids would sleep in the car on the way home, but all we got was fifteen minutes out of Lydia πŸ€ͺπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Back at home, we unpacked, Joey and I each took a shower and Dempsey helped me mix up some pizza dough for Sunday. Another bath night for both kids and then we got them to bed and sat outside for a bit. Felt so nice! πŸ₯° Came inside to make popcorn and start a movie, but more on that later.

Sissy sees Dempsey sleeping with a pillow and blanket and seems to want her own set 😍 Joey was up earlier than the rest of us and made us waffles! Afterward, we got the kids in the stroller and walked up to the Highlands Farmers’ Market. It was super busy and crowded, but felt so nice to not be in the rush that I was in every time I went last year, trying to make it back before Lydia’s morning nap. We got coffee, cherries, sweet potatoes and our fill of people for the day πŸ˜‚ Back at home, the day seemed to stretch on forever somehow! We even had time to clean the oven, do a toy rotation, make salads, do laundry, watch a movie with Dempsey and play outside before dinnertime. My parents got Joey an outdoor pizza oven for his birthday and this was our first time trying it out. Definitely a learning curve, but I’m excited to get it down. The white pizza was my favorite and next time, Dempsey says we should make a green pizza πŸ˜‚ I’m down! The littles were so wound up at bedtime, but we got them to sleep and finished our movie. I thought the plot was pretty bad but we also laughed a lot, so we had fun overall.

This week, the kids get back to back to back to back Grandma days and are taking a trip to the zoo. I’ll have the day off with them on Friday, so I’m hoping to do something fun and then we start soccer and go to Elitch’s for the company picnic! Should be a good good week!
