Weekend Things

Welcome to Monday! We had a good good weekend, that included a Friday night in, riding the Denver Trolley, celebrating my mom’s birthday, some solo Mom time on Sunday and then a spontaneous trip to the museum. Oh and looooots of Olympic coverage! I love it so much!

The kids and I picked some baby plums in the backyard before Grandma Lori came to pick them up. I spent the rest of the day working and with no appointments booked, the day felt very chill. Made us all some pesto mini meatball soup for dinner and the peak of summer heat is probably not the best time to make soup but oh well, it tasted great! We let the kids watch the beginning of the Opening Ceremony then took them up for bed and finished the rest by ourselves. Joey says the ceremony had a lot of criticism online but I dug it! Loved seeing all the performers all over the city, plus Celine performing from the Eiffel Tower?? Stop! It’s too good!

We had a busy but super fun Saturday! Started with a swim lesson for Dempsey. His regular coach is at the Olympics and I’m so jealous! And also ready for her to come back, because Dempsey has been so nervous with the subs. Afterward, we headed downtown to ride the trolley with Grandma Lori! It was so cute and fun and I think Dempsey really liked it 🤍 Afterward, we took our time (with a quick stop into REI for Dempsey and I 😂) walking over to BriDer for lunch. Lydia has no chill at restaurants (or anywhere) these days, climbing on everything, running everywhere and is somehow so independent and so attached to me at the same time. I’m tired 😅

Back at home, Lydia took a nap, Joey, Dempsey and I watched some swimming and then I made peach cobbler for dessert later on 😉 Once Lydia was up, both kids got baths and then we tag-teamed a cute hairstyle for her. My family came over around 5:30 for birthday festivities! We had such a good time, drinking wine, showering my mom with gifts, eating some really good burgers and of course, finishing it all off with cobbler. It started raining a few minutes into dinner so we dashed inside, but what can you do? I hope my mom felt loved because she really really is!

What a good Sunday. Felt like it’d been forever since we had pancakes, so maybe that’s why they tasted extra good?! Demps and Lyds were pretty into slalom canoeing and archery and then Joey took them to the park and I walked to get a facial. I’d been wanting to try out Heyday and Lori was kind enough to get me a gift card for my birthday 🥰 Felt so nice! Back at home, lunch, naptime/quiet time and I made salads for the week. It felt like we’d been watching TV for six hours, so once Lydia was up, we headed to the museum again. It was super busy but I really love it there and so do the kids! We went to some areas I hadn’t been before, so that was really cool. I think Dempsey’s favorite part was pressing the elk bugle button 😂 We had pulled pork in the crockpot all day, so dinner came together pretty fast once we got home and then we hung out outside until the kids’ bedtime. After they went down, we watched Big Brother then got into bed ourselves.

It’s going to be a hot, busy, fun week! Wishing you all well 😊

Summer Vacation: Glenwood Springs!

We’re back from our long weekend trip to Glenwood Springs and wow, we had such a good time! The drive was quick, the weather was great, the pool was expensive but fun, we tried something new and visited the adventure park and best of all, we were together 🤍

First things first, we sent the kids to sleep over at Grandma Lori’s on Thursday so Joey and I could see Twisters on opening night 😂 We had a good good time at the movies then went home to pack without children running around while we did it. Lori brought them back home Friday morning and we finished up a few things then hit the road for Glenwood. We stopped to have lunch at the Bluebird Market and Lydia was having the time of her life, apparently! Made it into town around 2:30 PM and headed straight for the pool. We got Dempsey a life vest so he was a little fish in the pool, jumping in from the side and swimming all over! It was so so fun to see him having such a good and comfortable time in the water. Lydia is DEEP in her Mommy phase, so I hung on to her the whole time but she had fun pretending to jump in too 😂🥺 Around 5, we checked into our Airbnb and while it was a little cramped upstairs, I think it worked out. The kids had their own room, equipped with blackout shades, books, a humidifier and bunk beds, which Dempsey thought were so cool. He slept on the top bunk all three nights! We had dinner at the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub and Lydia only sort of choked on a meatball, ran into the kitchen and wouldn’t sit still for a single second. This child is keeping me on my toes 😬😳 Lucky she’s so cute, especially when Aunt Bean scrunches her hair for her 😍

Those babies slept good, so so did we 🥰 We had breakfast at our Airbnb then headed over to the pool and spent the entire day there!!! Lydia allowed Joey to pull her around in that tube for about ten minutes before she saw Mommy 😂 Around noon, he took her to our “vacation home” for lunch and a nap so I got to hang with my boy for a good long while. We had lunch at the pool grille and then Grandma bought him a giant ice cream cone! He had the best time hopping from pool to pool to pool and once Lydia was up from her nap, she and Joey re-joined us and we checked out the kids’ splash pad area. We had to drag Dempsey there but then he had a lot of fun and Lydia was very into the slide. We left around 4:30 to clean ourselves up and head to dinner. We ended up at Slope & Hatch, which was a little busy and a little cramped but I still had fun. The barbacoa tacos were so good! Got home and put the kids to bed then puzzled and watched Mean Girls downstairs until our own bedtime.

We got up Sunday, ran out to grab coffee then had breakfast at the Airbnb before taking too long deciding how to spend the day. We had talked about taking the gondola up to the adventure park and caves but we weren’t sure we could do that AND the pool and weren’t sure we wanted to spend a bunch of money to be at the pool for an hour or two, so we decided to head up the mountain and skip the pool. Demps was pretty nervous when we first got on the gondola but once he realized it wasn’t going fast, he recovered. We visited the troll, watched the roller coaster and alpine swing then did a self-guided tour of the King’s Row Cave. I almost skipped this because I wasn’t sure the kids would be into it, but I’m glad we all went! It was really cool and there were some guides inside who told us some really interesting facts. Lydi insisted on walking all 120 stairs back up herself 😂 Joey and Dempsey had time for a photo shoot while they waited for us. We had a quick lunch at the restaurant and I was headed back with Lydia and my mom when Joey called and said Dempsey wanted to go home too. Both of them ended up taking a nap (Dempsey fell asleep on the couch with a mini tape measure in his hand 😂) and then some of us walked into town to shop. Back at “home,” the kids did some yoga and then we all got ready and walked over to Smoke for our 6 o’clock reservation but when we got there, they were “out of food.” 🙄🙄🙄 We ended up at The Pullman instead and I really like that place! Grabbed ice cream at Sundae afterward, then walked through the Hotel Colorado but it felt SO run down to me. Woof, I would not stay there. Got back home and put those babies to bed before hanging out downstairs for a bit with the other adults, then going to bed ourselves.

The next morning, we packed up, went to breakfast at The Daily Bread, then loaded up our cars, said our goodbyes and drove back to Denver. Lydia slept the entire way! I missed my family instantly. We had such a good and fun time 🤍 And it was really nice getting home early enough to unpack, do laundry, order groceries, then get back to our normal dinner/bedtime routine. Good thing we all get to get together this weekend to celebrate my mom’s birthday!
