Weekend Things

Whew, we had a rough week. Joey was out of town, Dempsey was sick, I was sick and it was cold. That poor boy didn’t go to school all week. We kept him home on Friday, so I had a little couch companion while I worked from home, which was sweet, but I do wish he’d felt better. We still made it to the stock show, Rockies Fest and had a little mommy-son date on Sunday, so it wasn’t all bad. And Joey and I are on a post-kiddo bedtime movie grind that I’m loooving, so that’s all good!

Joey was able to come home at noon on Friday so I could still go to my nail appointment. It was MUCH needed! After resting all day, Dempsey told us he still wanted to go to the stock show, so we headed over around 4. It was a lot bigger than I had expected! The kids were… not super into it πŸ˜…πŸ˜£ They went into the petting zoo but did not want to be put down, let alone pet any animals. Dempsey eventually agreed to take a picture on the pony but Lydia gave a vehement “NO!” They did make some sand art and left with souvenirs from Grandma but dang, it’s hard when you take your kids someplace and end up carrying them around the entire time and forcing them to do things. We picked up wings for dinner and they hit the spot! After the kids went to bed, Joey and I watched A Different Man and it was certainly interesting and unexpected, but I’m not quite sure I enjoyed it.

Woke up and made pancakes on Saturday, then debated braving the snow for Rockies Fest. The kids said they wanted to go, so we threw on our Rockies gear and went! I don’t know how other major league/baseball organizations are but we have had WONDERFUL experiences with the Rockies, as parents with little kids. The staff is always friendly and attentive with our kids and so helpful and understanding of us parents. Makes me feel so taken care of πŸ’œ Dempsey and I got some glitter tattoos and then we got pictures with the Gold Gloves before splitting up so the boys could go to their autograph session and Lydi and I could make bracelets and get a balloon animal. I’m still waiting for Dempsey to stop making Joey carry him everywhere but what can you do? Back at home, Joey and I both got in a workout and the kids played around before I made us all carne asada tacos for dinner. Lydia ate her first taco and it made my heart so happy πŸ₯° After the kids went to bed, we watched We Live in Time and holy moly, I LOVED it but it made me SO SAD. Thought Andrew Garfield was perfect in every teary-eyed scene and Florence Pugh continues to amaze in every single role she plays. We stayed up for the entirety of TimothΓ©e Chalamet’s SNL episode and what can I say? He’s the absolute best. I’m ready for him to take home that Best Actor statuette already.

Sunday started with egg sandwiches πŸ₯° I was waiting to see how Dempsey felt, but he seemed fine, so he and I went out to paint pottery. I’m trying to be more intentional about having one-on-one time with him and this was such a fun way to do it! He picked out a piggybank skull, of course, and I painted a cute monster for Lydia. Afterward he told me he wanted to get lunch “in this town” and picked out a sandwich shop that was playing heavy metal πŸ˜‚ Back at home, Dempsey watched Frozen II and I made salads for the week and did a quick Peloton work out before hanging with the kids until dinner time. Joey made us some poached cod and a brown rice pilaf, which sounds boring but it really delicious. Both kids wolfed down the fish, if you can believe it! We got them to bed and fired up The Apprentice. I’m not sure we learn anything new about Trump from this film but the performances from Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong are really really good and I honestly didn’t know much Roy Cohn, so that was both interesting and absolutely horrifying to watch.

We have a few things going on this week that I’m excited about and Lydia’s dairy challenge on Thursday that I’m very anxious for, so wish us luck! Happy Monday πŸ™‚

Weekend Things

Hello from the frozen tundra that is Denver, Colorado. I know it’s cold everywhere, but it is REALLY COLD here. I was worried we’d be stuck inside all weekend, but Joey and I did manage to leave once to see a movie and we got out on Friday night before it got too too cold, but we definitely stayed put yesterday and instead, brought the snow inside πŸ˜‚

It was a normal work-from-home day for me on Friday but I did take an actual lunch break to eat and read and later on, we met Auntie Lauren, Uncle Adam and Landon at Edgewater for dinner. Sometimes our kids are pretty good at restaurants and other times, they won’t stay at the table and just try to run around the whole time. This was one of those latter times. It’s a little more okay to do at Edgewater but it’s still pretty stressful/distracting πŸ€ͺ Pretty cute when Lydi and Landon were running around together though and Dempsey got his ice cream cone and was happy 🀍 Got the kids home and into bed, then watched the Season 2 premier of Severence but uh, what happened in Season 1 again?? πŸ˜‚

Woke up to snow on Saturday! I made the kids “waffle pops” and I think they got a kick out of it. Afterward, we painted our seashells from Hawaii, unloaded our grocery delivery, took a daytime bubble bath, made A LOT of red beans and rice, hung up our Valentine’s decorations, put together Legos and drank Bluey hot chocolate. My sis and Wayne came over shortly before 3, so Joey and I could go spend four hours at the movie theater. The Brutalist is a lot of movie! I’m still thinking it over, but I do love a big ambitious film and this definitely was one. I also found it incredibly sad, but ultimately, I do think I liked it. Back at home, we watched Dempsey and Uncle Wayne do a “magic trick” about ten times and then we sent our babysitters home and put the kids to bed.

My mom always made Cream of Wheat on snowy days, so I made some for the kids on Sunday morning. Dempsey had three bowls and Lydia put a spoonful in her mouth and spit it right back out πŸ˜‚ I got my hair cut mid-morning then came home and made salads for the work week. Once Lydia was back up from her nap, I let the kids bring snow inside. It actually lasted longer than I had expected and kept them entertained for a solid fifteen minutes πŸ˜‚ Roasted a chicken for dinner and is there anything more domestic-feeling than roasting a chicken for dinner?? We “ended” the night with popcorn and Frozen II and then, after the kids were in bed, we watched Fargo and went up to bed ourselves.

Stay warm out there, friends!
