Super Bowl Weekend Things

Hello and Happy Monday! Every week, I cross my fingers that someone in our family won’t be sick and we can just be on our normal schedule but alas, Lydia was up with a runny nose at 3 AM, so here we go again πŸ€ͺ😫 Dempsey was on the tail end of HIS cold, but I think we managed to have some fun in between these sicknesses. We checked out a new restaurant on Friday, went to Monster Jam on Saturday afternoon, babysat Landon Saturday evening, walked to get pastries on Sunday morning and “watched” the game with friends on Sunday evening. I’m still trying to get over my great disappointment that Dempsey thought Monster Jam was “just boring the whole time,” but what can you do? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Finally, a normal low-key Friday! I dropped Dempsey off at school and took home this bead “coaster” he made then worked. Snuck in a car wash and a mini toy rotation too. I think it worked because Dempsey has been VERY into his circuit board ever since. We tried to go to dinner at Vine Street Pub but the wait was too long, so we headed to Som Dee Thai instead and I really liked it! The kids were acting a little bit insane but that’s par for the course πŸ˜‚ We got them home, bathed and to bed before starting up The Substance but more on that later πŸ˜‹

Dempsey was straight back to the circuit board on Saturday morning! Joey made us some ricotta pancakes. It was Lydia’s first try and she seemed to be a fan. A bit later, we took the kids to Target for Valentine’s cards for Dempsey’s classmates and what a mistake that was!!! They were NUTS in there. Lydia was literally picking up every thing she saw, including, at one point, a boxed wine πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ We got out of there and headed back home for early lunch and attempted an early nap for Lydia but she wasn’t having any of it, so we packed up and headed out to Monster Jam instead. Guys, I was really really hoping Dempsey would love it. He was so into watching monster truck videos a few months back and that’s where we got the idea to buy tickets, but he was not into it at all. He kept asking if we could go home yet 😒 Lydia loved it, at least! She was cheering, pointing, doing the Megalodon chomp with her arms and chowing down on popcorn. Joey and I did think they could shorten this show up a bit, but we had fun overall.

Once we were back home, Adam and Lauren dropped Landon off so they could head out to dinner and we were all so excited to have him over! The three of them played, jumped, danced and ate grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. With Lydia skipping her nap and Dempsey just always being tired past 2 PM, we tried to get them to bed at a mostly normal time, so Landon helped us get them ready. Actually, it was Lydia taking every pair of pants out of her drawer and trying to get Landon to wear them while Dempsey listened to me read — he’s a no on Monster Jam but a YES to every single book, so I’ll take it — but then the three of us said good night to them and headed downstairs. That sweet boy cried when his mom and dad took him home, so I hope that’s a sign he had fun and wants to come over again soon 🀍 Afterward, Joey and I finished The Substance and wow, we both really did not like it and I wanted to! It was so boring, so completely ridiculous and in a banal way, not a fun way. I thought it completely lacked depth and I was shocked at how little Demi was given to do. Felt like she spoke something like 20 words in the entire movie. Absolutely do not recommend.

Our Sunday started with Dempsey making me a yogurt bowl πŸ₯°πŸ₯Ί Why’s he so sweet?? Took him a bit to figure out how to get that thick Greek yogurt off the spoon and into the bowl but he got there. A bit later, we walked up the street for pastries and wow are those morning buns good! Got our Sunday chores done afterward, then headed over to the Super Bowl party. The four year olds are trouble makers and Lydia just wants to be in on the fun, but I saw Mason watch the entire game very intently and it gave me hope for when they both turn 7 πŸ˜‚ Till then, I guess Lydia will just lock them in some dog crates 🀣 She loved the food and the halftime show too! Dempsey has been asking to make confetti since New Year’s when I showed him a video of Mason throwing homemade confetti at midnight, so he and Joey made some and brought it along. LOL at him tossing it up and yelling “Happy New Year!” at the end of the game. It was a late night for those kiddos but we got them into bed and followed not too long after.

I’m hoping we can get our girl recovered by the end of the week because she has a sleepover to attend 😊 Hope you all have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Weekend Things

Hello and Happy February. We had a really nice weekend and I needed it. I felt like I had been struggling with parenting lately and had felt so frustrated with just how hard it’d been to do every day things with them, from getting ready in the morning, to cooking dinner, to doing ANYTHING without someone touching me or saying “Mom! Mom! Mom!” all the time. But this weekend was filled with things I’d always imagined and looked forward to as a parent and it just the best. Seeing them walk places holding hands, Friday movie night with popcorn, crafts at Home Depot, watching them play outside with other kids, helping with chores, going to birthday parties together. It’s too sweet πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

Also: πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ LYDI PASSED HER DAIRY CHALLENGE!!!!!! We had gotten really used to modifying for her but now that she can snag a bite of my lunch without me having to tell her no, or eat pizza at a birthday party, or share cheese crackers with her brother, I am immensely happy. The allergist told us ease into it so TBD on her reaction to real ice cream but I’m looking forward to that moment so much 😁

My poor mother-in-law finally got hit with the stomach bug overnight on Thursday, so Lydi stayed home with us on Friday. We dropped Dempsey off at school before grabbing coffee and heading home so Mom could do a little bit of work, but then we played outside for a bit and it was so nice getting some fresh air! I, unfortunately (for Joey), had a facial scheduled for 1 PM, so he had to come home and relieve me but Lydia was napping the whole time so he hopefully got some work done. My facial was so relaxing and much needed!

Joey and Lydia walked over to pick Dempsey up from school and then they walked back together holding hands πŸ₯Ί It was too cute! I cooked everyone dinner and was barely interrupted by anyone hanging from my leg or asking me to hold them, so that was a nice surprise. I accidentally made the black pepper tofu way too spicy for the kids but Joey and I liked it and at least the rice was safe for them πŸ˜… Afterward, Dempsey declared it movie night and said we needed to “fluff and vacuum the couch, then make popcorn” πŸ˜‚ Well okay! Lydia’s first buttered popcorn and she was a big big fan! We finished up the second half of Sonic 2 and then Dempsey ran around the rest of the night saying he was Sonic πŸ˜‚ After the kids went to bed, Joey and I watched Blitz and I can’t say it was a fun time. Very stressful, very sad.

We had a busy little Saturday. First up, Joey made us all some lemon yogurt pancakes with blueberry compote πŸ₯° Afterward, we made our way to Home Depot to pick up some paint for the playroom and to do the kids craft. It was PACKED but the kids both made some cute little Valentine candy boxes. Dempsey scoured the store for the Halloween stuff but I told him he’d probably be waiting till September for those πŸ˜… Elliott’s birthday celebration was later that afternoon at a brewery and they had the most beautiful flower arrangement for her πŸ’œ It is so sweet seeing all of the kids running around together and at the same time it ACHES that she is not here with them all. Back at home, Lydia took a late nap, Dempsey and I watched Mulan and Joey started painting the playroom. I made us a pasta bake for dinner and Lydia is a fan of fresh mozzarella! After the kids went to bed, Joey and I watched Mass and it was HEAVY to say the very least. Very well acted too but dang, we need to watch something light-hearted soon!

Sunday fun with my babies 🀍 We had breakfast and then Joey got to work painting again so the kids and I cleaned some stains on the couch (the red handprint from New Year’s Eve candy canes was only slightly alarming πŸ˜‚) and then the three of us walked up the street to the Cottage Baker for pastries. Both kids got morning buns and I can tell you from all the crumbs I licked from my fingers after breaking them off pieces, that they were DELICIOUS! They picked out a raspberry danish for me and then we played at the school for a little bit before heading to pick up Dempsey and I’s pottery. His skull turned out so cool! He’s ready to fill it with change for the candy machine at Edgewater πŸ˜‚

In the afternoon, Lydia napped, Dempsey rested — we made a little spot for him so I could use the TV for my workout and he looked so chill over there! — I made salads and Joey… painted πŸ˜… Then we headed to a birthday party for Dempsey’s friend from school. There were like 70 people there! The kids all did some gymnastics and even though it took a little bit for Dempsey to warm up to it all, he had a great time once he did. You know Lydia, she was running around with the big kids from the second she got there πŸ˜‚ She also got to eat her first piece of cheese pizza and she seemed to really like it! We sang “Happy Birthday” to the birthday girl and I was looking around for Dempsey when I spotted him standing RIGHT NEXT TO his friend. Ever ready for candle blow out assistance πŸ˜‚ We got home and put them to bed so we could eat our own dinner and watch our episode of Severance before going to bed ourselves. A weekend well spent!
