Weekend Things

It’s the last day of March and I am already so excited for April, one of my favorite months because: birthdays for my favorite people, baseball (LOL at me pretending I’ve paid attention to anything Rockies-related since Dempsey was born), warmer weather 🀞, Easter celebrations and a girls trip to New Orleans πŸŽ‰ I’m so ready for all of it!

We had a good weekend of dinner and ice cream on Tennyson on Friday, a day at home playing, cleaning and cooking on Saturday and then a really fun Sunday that started with breakfast with Grandpa Steve and Lorna and ended with a birthday dinner for Joey with my family. In between, we took Dempsey to the symphony and had the best time. Whew, a full and happy weekend!

Friday was Opening Day for the Rockies, so we all donned our Rockies gear before heading out to work/school/Grandma’s. I had a morning manicure and had to go with purple, of course! I’m hoping they survive all the crawfish I’m going to peel and eat while I’m in New Orleans with my mom and sister next week πŸ˜‰ Once everyone was home, we headed to Beau Thai for dinner then walked down the street for ice cream. Two blocks felt like an eternity herding our two tiny humans back to the car, but I think they had fun πŸ˜… Got them home and into bed before watching Top Chef from two weeks ago.

Saturday had a rainy gloomy start but made it feel like a good day to stay at home and get our chores done. I made us the most flavorless dense pancakes then snuck our for a pedicure at 10. We finished up salads and laundry and Lydi’s nap battle then headed outside for a bit once the sun was finally out. Joey made us the most amazing dinner! Creamy Lemon Pepper Chicken from Simple Home Edit, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Mashed potatoes feel like such a luxury to me and these were delicious. Dempsey crushed two servings of this meal! That’s when you know it’s good πŸ˜‹ After bath and bedtime for the kids, we watched another episode of Top Chef. We’re all caught up now.

Sunday started with breakfast at Sassafras. We hadn’t seen Grandpa Steve and Lorna in too long and it was so nice to catch up. Had to warm our hands over the fire outside afterward, obviously πŸ˜‚ Back at home, chores were done and the kids wanted to watch a movie. Say no more. I’m afforded ZERO personal space during though πŸ˜‚ Lydia actually went down for her nap and then my parents came over to stay with her so we could take our boy to the symphony! We won tickets through his school and it was the first time for all of us. It was also a family-friendly performance, featuring animals from the zoo! We took the picture out front beforehand and he was hugging our necks so tight πŸ₯ΊπŸ€ I think he had a fun time! He was dancing, observing, asking questions, recognizing songs and only once told me he was bored πŸ˜‚ Afterward, we stood in line to hold/take a picture with Flavio the snake. So cool that he wanted to do that. I’m so glad it was a fun time for all of us and it felt so nice to do something just us three! Back at home, we all hung out and ate dinner from Brider, then presents for Joey and red velvet cake for everyone. Got those kiddos to bed and watched The White Lotus.

Happy Monday to you all!

Weekend Things

Happy Monday! We had a really fun weekend, featuring back to back days at the Children’s Museum for me, a trip to get “magic color-changing lemonade,” a mom date for Hannah and I, a haircut for me, a playdate for all of us yesterday afternoon and two days of egg breakfasts for Lydia, who passed her egg challenge last Thursday πŸŽ‰ Now Dempsey has a case of the sniffles, so fingers crossed that it doesn’t turn into a full-blown cold this week!

My mother in law is out in Texas at the rodeo, so I got an extra day to spend with my little girl. We decided to do something special and headed to the Children’s Museum around 9:30. We had a blast! She is very into all of the imaginative play areas and we finally happened upon the art studio, which I couldn’t wait to bring Dempsey to. We headed back home for sandwich lunch x2 (she can have mayo now!) and then hallelujah, she let me put her down for a nap! I got some work done and took a shower and then shortly after she was up, we headed over to pick Dempsey up from school. I had promised them “magic color-changing lemonade” but I checked the coffee shop’s hours once we were in the car and it had closed at 3 😩 We pivoted and went to Radiator and I think it all turned out fine because they had a lot of fun playing on the jungle gym with the other kids who were there. Back at home, Joey cooked us beef & broccoli and then they went to bed and we watched Top Chef.

Joey was up and out of the house early on Saturday to drive Chad up a mountain for a training run, so the rest of us woke up later and got started on ricotta pancakes. Joey made it home just in time to eat them with us. Lydia has taken to scrambled eggs really quickly and she’s also been sitting at her little table for meals πŸ₯Ί Afterward, we swapped out our St. Patrick’s Day decor for our Easter decor (wooden eggs/bunny and “bunny poop” arranged by Dempsey πŸ˜‚) and I went on a run. Around 11:30, we loaded into the car and went to get that lemonade for real. Not only was it fun to stir it up and see it all turn purple, but it tasted really good.

We went back home for lunch and then Joey took Lydia up for her nap and I took Dempsey out for some one-on-one time. Gave him the option of Botanic Gardens or the museum and he chose the museum, so back I went! It was the least busy I’ve seen it and we had a really great time. He spent almost two hours in the art studio, playing with clay and then painting! We played outside for a bit before leaving and he was having so much fun out there too. “Clay and play” was his favorite part πŸ˜‚πŸ€ We got back home to relax and hang with Lydia for a bit and then I headed out for dinner with Hannah. Mom time is truly the best time and we spent most of it exchanging stories/information about our kids. A spiced hibiscus margarita and two delicious tacos doesn’t hurt either πŸ˜‰ Back at home, the kids and Joey were having hot dogs, fries, “four kinds of ketchup” and Richie Rich, so I think they were happy too. Got home and chatted with Joey for a bit and then we went to bed.

Not too many pictures from Sunday but we had a good day. Lydia had her first ever egg sandwich and she and I took a trip to the grocery store. I ate lunch with them at their little table and made salads for the week and then headed out to my haircut. Afterward, I met Joey and the kids at a friend from school’s house and the parents got to chat while the kids all played outside. It was really nice! Back at home, spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread and Caesar salad before kiddo bedtime and then we watched Severance (we’re still two episodes behind because that show feels like such a slog 😬). Dempsey cried in his sleep a bunch of times because he’s all stuffed up, so pray for us!
