Father’s Day Weekend 2025

First things first, I woke up at 3:30 AM both Friday and Saturday to watch the last two concerts of the Hope on the Stage tour live from South Korea and I REGRET NOTHING! I had a feeling all seven member of BTS would be there and they totally were. Two of them even performed with J-Hope. We are so back!

A little bit of tiredness aside, we had a really good Father’s Day Weekend, packed full of good summer fun. Friday dinner out, Saturday morning soccer, our company picnic at Elitch’s, a trip to the farmers’ market for the kids and I while Joey golfed and fajitas with my family later in the day. Also, we ended Father’s Day with a walk around our neighborhood and it was so nice πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Not jarring at all to go from three hours of sitting on the couch in the dark by yourself to getting your two children and up and ready and out the door but they were actually pretty good to me πŸ˜… Lydia and I dropped Dempsey off at school and then I took her to Grandma Lori’s before heading back home to work. We all had dinner at Fire on the Mountain later on then took a field trip to our old house, which we’ve been renting out for the past five years. So surreal to be there again (and look at all of the projects Joey did over the years in there) but this time, with two kids we didn’t have when we lived there. It definitely needs some work and a deep clean though 😬

I only dozed off one time during the concert but it really was a truly epic performance and one that I think only J-Hope could pull off 🀞 Afterward, we all had pancakes for breakfast and headed off to Lydi’s second week of soccer. Nope, she’s not a fan πŸ˜‚ I think she made it onto the field a couple of times but she mostly just wanted to sit in her folding chair and eat snacks. What can you do? Dempsey was so good to her and I even heard him tell her “I’m so proud of you!” afterward πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί Headed straight to Elitch’s afterward and we had a really fun time! We rode the carousel with Grandpa Steve then headed to the kids area to traumatize Dempsey on the very first thing we rode. LOL at Lydia getting off and saying “wasn’t that fun, Buddy??” when it clearly was not for him. We did as much as we could do over there then headed to the pavilion to have lunch and visit with everyone else. The kids all got balloon animals and Dempsey got an airbrush tattoo. Lydia and I left around 1 so she (but mostly so I) could take a nap and then I had to call Joey and Dempsey back home around 4! They returned with that giant red banana that’s now living in our home with us and Dempsey named “Banana Bob.” πŸ˜‚ I ran out to get a pie and a few other things for Father’s Day then made us some Hawaiian chicken sliders that were really easy and really delicious. We watched the Top Chef finale after the kids went to bed but I was basically asleep as the announced the winner so maybe I should re-watch 😬

Joey had a 7 AM tee time on Sunday, so I let the kids sleep in while I worked out then we all had breakfast — I made myself a latte with that vanilla blueberry simple syrup! — and headed to the farmers’ market. Dempsey is always on the lookout for the root beer flavored popsicle and they had it this week! Lydia only sort of made a mess eating hers πŸ˜‚ It was already hot when we got back, so I let them run through the sprinkler and it truly felt like summer. Joey came home while we were eating lunch and the kids gave him their gifts πŸ’™ I put Lydia down for her nap then we did a few things to get ready for visitors and everyone showed up around 3. Joey wanted fajitas and they turned out so good!!! Had dessert a little bit later then went for our walk and made a stop at the fairy garden 😍 It really was such a good night with our family. I hope you all had a good one too!

Weekend Things

June continues to feel low-key and I’m loving it! This weekend, Joey and I got to have a date night, Lydia started soccer, we hung out with friends and listened to That Eighties Band perform, took a family trip to the farmers’ market and ended the weekend with homemade garlic parmesan wings. What could be better?

I worked from home all day on Friday, which is unusual for me but it felt really nice! Joey picked me up shortly after 3 and we headed to the Alamo to see The Phoenician Scheme and honestly, I didn’t have high hopes and was pleasantly surprised to really like it! It had a lot more heart (and humor AND violence) than I had anticipated and the core three performances are all wonderful. Michael Cera was truly perfect. Afterward, we had dinner at Cholon and we’re so lucky to live in a world where soup dumplings exist πŸ˜‚πŸ€€ Outdoor movie night at Dempsey’s school was cancelled, so Grandma and Chaddy made their own 🀍 Picked the kids up after and got them home and into bed before watching the penultimate episode of Top Chef.

Look, I was fully ready to enjoy a soccer-free summer after literally dragging Dempsey every week last year but Joey really wanted Lydia to play, so here we are. She’s definitely my more outgoing child, but even she was feeling very shy on her first week. She kept begging me to hold her πŸ₯Ί We did our best. She did tell me at the park afterward “I not cry, Mommy, I kick the ball” for next week, so we’ll see! Dempsey had a good time catching strangers in his fishing line and when I asked if he was going to join the team, he told me, “I’m going to join the team of sitting down” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ They played at the park with Grandpa Steve and Lorna for a loooong time afterward and then we headed home for lunch and Lydia’s nap.

Post nap, I headed out to meet some friends for a reading in the park event and Joey took the kids fishing. They didn’t catch anything but they looked like they had a fun time and only sort of drove Joey insane πŸ˜‚ I read one literal page in the two hours I was at the park but how are three moms supposed to focus and read when they could be chitchatting the whole time?? Around 6, Joey and the kids, my sis and Wayne and my friend’s husband and daughter joined us and the cover band started up too. We ordered pizza from a place across the street and it took FOREVERRRRR but oh well, the kids were snacking on our reading group’s leftover charcuterie and Dempsey was having the time of his life playing in the water fountain. I love watching him overcome his fear of heights and trying new things πŸ₯ΊπŸ€ We left shortly after the band finished playing, grabbed ice cream for the kids and headed home. Another late night but it’s summer! I don’t think the babies were asleep until 9:30. I brined our wings and went to bed immediately after.

Dempsey woke up screaming about something or other at 3 AM and woke his sister up, so guess who slept the rest of the night in our bed? πŸ€ͺ At least she went right back to sleep and let us do the same. We all slept in till after 8! Unheard of! Once we were all finally up, I made us some buttermilk ricotta pancakes that were so soft and delicious. Afterward, we loaded the kids into the stroller and headed to the farmers’ market. First stop, popsicles, of course and then we walked through and left with cherries, tomatoes, garlic scapes, a bouquet of flowers and a loaf of focaccia. Used the bread for lunchtime sandwiches and we all loved it! While Lydia napped, I made salads, Dempsey watched Phineas & Ferb and Joey did laundry and then once that little girl was up, Joey took them outside to play so I could work out. I made wings for dinner and homemade garlic parm is just the best! Sweet potato fries and broccoli to go along with. I think Lydia ate three wings, which is awesome because she’s usually not super into them. Got them both bathed and into bed before watching a couple episodes of Deli Boys.

I hope everyone has a great week!
