Weekend Things

This was our one “low key” weekend of October and yet we still had a family movie night, went to a park playdate, attended a fall festival, baked a loaf of bread, did Sunday chores and then I got my haircut and went (sans kids and husband) to dinner at my mom’s. Whew! Not going to lie, I felt so overstimulated all weekend so hopefully I recover by the time next weekend rolls around and we’re legitimately really busy 😅

I guess I watched a lot of movies on Friday 😂 I took Dempsey to school then came home to work and threw Practical Magic on. It’s just a perfect film, okay? Joey picked up wings for dinner and then we gave the kids baths before watching Room on the Broom with them. Put them to bed and watched Blade, which I’d never seen!

Joey made us some banana waffles for Saturday breakfast and then we headed out to Paco Sanchez for a preschool playdate. We hadn’t been there since 2020 but the kids had a lot of fun! We left around 11:30 and made our way over to Grandpa Steve and Lorna’s, where we changed the kids into their Halloween costumes and walked over to a fall festival that was taking place in their neighborhood. We had a great time! Dempsey was loving the bouncy obstacle course and all of the carnival games and they both got balloon wands and their faces painted. Lydia is so cute and patient sitting there with her eyes closed while they painted the princess crown on her face ðŸĨš We walked back in the rain but what can you do? Dempsey got to open his birthday presents and they played for a bit and then we headed home. Shockingly, no one fell asleep in the car! Back at home, spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and an early bedtime for the kids. Joey and I finished our movie afterward and I had to check the time because I was falling asleep on the couch. It was 8 PM!!! 😂 The visual effects were obviously way out of date, but otherwise it was a fun movie.

I got up and worked out the next morning and then we had breakfast and started our first loaf of sourdough bread! We fit in our chores and I got Lydia to take a nap then woke her up before I had to leave for my haircut. I wasn’t quite done baking my loaf of bread and had to leave Joey to make a call on it being done. He sent me a pic when he pulled it out of the oven and said “she’s perfect” 😂ðŸĨ° I made appointments for both Lydia and I to get our hair cut in December. It’ll be her first!!! She was so excited when I told her ðŸĨš Afterward, I headed over to my parents’ for dinner. My sis and Wayne joined us and we took a nice walk around the neighborhood and up to a scenic overlook before we headed back to the condo for Jambalaya. Almond cake and ice cream for dessert and I got to FaceTime the kids before they went to bed. It was mostly just them screaming and running around their room while I watched 😂 Got home around 8:30, just in time to catch up on GBBO.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Weekend Things

October is off to a great start! It’s really one of my favorite months and it’s going to be chock-full of fun stuff 🎃 We had a very chill Friday night at home, snuck in a trip to see the changing leaves, went to a fall festival, attended Boo at the Zoo for the first time, made sourdough pancakes and stuffed in too many chores before heading to Delaney’s birthday party on Sunday!

They replaced the water line at our house on Friday morning but they were done around 1 PM and after lunch, I snuck out for a walk around the lake and to listen to Taylor’s new album. I thought it was neither offensive nor groundbreaking and just kind of middle of the road. Fine by me! I prepped dinner before the kids got home so it came together really quickly and tasted great. The kids and I made s’mores ice cream on Thursday night so we got to eat it after dinner and wow, it was so good! Afterward, baths and bedtime for the kids and then we prepped breakfast for the next morning, watched GBBO and went to bed ourselves.

It was feeling like now or never for leaf peeping, so we got up and got going on Saturday morning. Made overnight oats for all of us to eat in the car on the way up to Kenosha Pass. It was already semi-busy up there but we lucked out with a parking spot and did a short little hike. Lots of leaves had definitely already fallen but we still saw some good stuff. Nothing like breathing that fresh cool mountain air and letting your eyeballs get flooded by bright yellow leaves. Dempsey carried that skeleton around on a stick the entire time and that little lady made me carry her the whole way 😅 I’m glad we went!

Stopped at Home Depot on our way back, hoping to just sneak in and pick up the kids craft kit (it was a haunted candy box!) but you know Dempsey recognized where we were when we pulled into the parking lot and had to go in! Back at home, Lydia and Joey went over to the fall festival to grab lunch and after Dempsey set up his new skull decoration, he wanted to go over too. Face painting, cotton candy, a giant pickle, putt putt and Lydia won a bag of cookies at the cake walk! I got that girl home and into her crib and she proceeded to play around in there for an hour before falling asleep ðŸĪŠ

Got ourselves ready and headed out for our 4:30 entry to Boo at the Zoo! We’d never been before so none of us knew what to expect. It was mainly candy stations (they were seriously handing out the biggest handfuls of candy!), characters walking around and a few decorations. I think we all thought there’d be a bit more but it entertained my kids for two and half hours, so I can’t complain 😂 Lydi was so excited to wear her princess costume (she kept saying “you’re a mommy princess and I’m a sister princess!” ðŸĨš) and Dempsey’s werewolf make up turned out so good, thanks for Joey! Depsite Lydi’s grumpy face, she was so excited to get a picture with Glinda and Elphaba 💚 Got home around 7:30 and the kids were all wound up so we didn’t get them into bed until 8:30 but then we got to watch an episode of The Pitt before bed.

Set my alarm to wake up early and work out on Sunday but when it went off, it was a hard no for me 😅 The kids woke up shortly after and then we all made our way downstairs for sourdough pancakes because our starter was finally ready! That was a gloopy gloopy batter but I think they tasted pretty good. You definitely got that sourdough flavor. Afterward, Joey and I took turns hanging out with the kids while the other one worked out/did their Sunday chores and then I attempted to put Lydia down for her nap before we realized Delany’s birthday party started half an hour earlier than we’d both thought. Scrambled to get ready and finish up our projects before heading out. Lydia never did take that nap and you could tell she was tired. She was grumpy and had a really hard fall 😟 At least she cooperated for those cute pics! She ended up falling asleep in the car on the way home, poor thing. She woke up to eat dinner and take a bath and then we got them both to bed. Whew! We ended our night with The Amazing Race (I was falling asleep at one point but got to see the ending) and then off to bed!

I get to take Dempsey on his field trip to the pumpkin patch this week and we’re both really excited! I hope everyone has a good Monday ðŸĪ
