We finally got some snow! My tulips are already 3″ out of the ground, so we NEEDED it. Especially since we’re back in the 70s today 😬 We had a good weekend of watching movies (Best Picture nominees: check!), playing outside, making food and only one small breakdown for me when I was just trying to go to the bathroom by myself or start sourdough bread and little voices were just saying “Mom, Mom, Mom.” I wish I handled it better, truly, but it’s a work in progress 😅

Friday, I took Dempsey to school (never not triggered by his need to do “one more thing” fifty times on our way out the door, but after he got his “train tracks” shoveled into the snow, he was good to go 😂) then worked from home. Picked my boy up from school and we had a bit of time at home, just the two of us, which was honestly the best. We played with his Hot Wheels track and he was laughing SO HARD when the cars didn’t quite make it around and just fell from the top of the loop. Once Joey and Lydia were home, we headed over to Tumble Haus and the kids had such a blast! They spent A LOT of time in what the internet tells me is called a yoga hammock and it was so funny to see. Afterward, we picked up wings and headed back home to eat them. Hit the spot as always.

Saturday started with banana pancakes and then Lydia had to go put on her gray hoodie to match her brother 😍 Joey was going outside to shovel and both kids wanted to help so we spent fifteen minutes getting them dressed and then one or the other of them would appear inside every two minutes dripping wet and/or crying, so that was fun 😅 I took Lydia to her swim lesson and it was a truly strange experience. She’s only just now comfortable getting in with her new coach and I watched the whole lesson and she seemed fine and even wore her goggles for the first time, but when I went to get her out, he told me “she’s really regressed” and asked if she’d had a traumatic water experience lately… I hope he just had her confused with someone else, but I really did not like it and have spent too much time ruminating on it. Back at home, the boys built the new bookshelf bench for the kids’ room and we all love it!

That afternoon, I made our dinner and popped it into the fridge for later and then we took the kids over to Grandma Lori’s so Joey and I could see The Bride! Stylistically, I really liked it but thematically and emotionally, it just didn’t come together for me. I wasn’t sure what message it was trying to give and I really did not connect with any of the characters or what they were doing. I also really did not need that side plot with the two detectives. I loved Annette Bening as the mad scientist though! And for what it’s worth, Joey really enjoyed it. We picked the kids back up and headed home for dinner. This one pan pesto pasta was SO good! We’ll definitely be making it again. After dinner, we watched a bit of Leap! with the kids and then it was a dance party until they went to sleep 🥰🥰 Joey and I also started The Secret Agent but more on that later.

Joey was headed out on his long run by the time I woke up on Sunday and then the kids popped their little eyes open at what was actually 6:30 AM (but 7:30 AM with the time change) and I was not expecting that. I made us all breakfast and Joey came home just in time to eat with us. This is when I was trying to do a few things autonomously and no matter where I was in the house, the kids would find me 😫 I did have a manicure booked, however, so I got to disappear for a bit. When I got home, the kids and Joey were just finishing lunch outside and had decided to head out to a movie. Dempsey told me my nails looked “like skin” 😂 So while they were at Hoppers, I made lunch salads and took a shower. Had sat down for all of two minutes when they came back home.
Spent the rest of the afternoon playing outside, including a couple loops around the block in their motorized cars, and then Joey made us dinner. Is there anything better than being served a creamy dreamy mashed potato and chicken meal?? Took the kids up for bed pretty early — they were fully asleep by 7 PM! — and then finished our movie afterward. I thought it was okay. Spent a lot of it slightly confused and it did that thing at the end where they use the same actor to play a father and later, an adult son. Just really takes me out of it, you know? Took ourselves up to bed after and now here we are, another Monday. Hope it’s a good one for all of us!
