Weekend Things

I’m sad that April is over, but so far May is GOOD! And our weekend was a busy but fun one 🤍 Glowing Wild at the zoo on Friday evening, a Saturday date with my boy, some park and at home time on Sunday before a double birthday party that afternoon!

Friday is my “flex day,” so I am always booking appointments and errands that day, but I had a very rare plan-free day! Plus Lori picked Dempsey up from school and took him back to her house for dinner, so I had soooooo much free time. I didn’t even know what to do with it all, so I baked some carrot cake cupcakes. They taste so good but they did not want to leave the pan, so they’re a little messy looking 😉

The inaugural Glowing Wild event at the zoo was sooooo cool and fun! I hope they do it again next year. Lots of pretty light displays, a silent disco, a train ride, a dance floor and, of course, Dippin’ Dots 😂 We were there for three hours! Got the kids home and into bed, then immediately went to bed ourselves.

We had a make-up swim lesson scheduled for Dempsey Saturday morning but he skipped his Friday nap and then we were out extra late, so we decided to cancel and let him sleep in. Instead, we hung out at home — the kids helped wash dishes and wrap presents and I love this stage of involvement and helpfulness 🥺🤍 Then Dempsey and I went to see a play! We saw Lyle the Crocodile at the Arvada Center and it was so fun! Just an hour-long, family-friendly show, that was perfect for my 4.5 year-old and I. They did a little behind-the-scenes segment afterward, telling us how the set and costumes and sounds are made and we really enjoyed that part too. Back at home, Lydia and Joey got to go to the coffee shop and have lunch together 🤍

Post-Lydia nap, we all went outside. Joey is working on some landscaping in the front yard and Dempsey is passionate about weed removal 😂 Lydia was “reading” and hunting for monsters and then we all went inside so I could start some iced coffee — I had helpers! — and cook us dinner. Somehow the kids ended up with pre-dinner cupcakes but they still ate pretty well. Gave them baths and got them to bed before watching Top Chef and then going to bed ourselves.

Sunday started with waffles and then I got to look through a new cookbook Emily sent me 🥰 Joey took the kids to the park so I could clean up the kitchen and work out and then I walked down to meet them on their way back. We walked past a lemonade stand that had Venmo 😂 so the kids each got a cup and a bracelet. The kids and I had lunch while Joey worked in the front yard and then I attempted to put Lydia down for her nap. She never makes it easy for me anymore. She’s been insisting on sleeping in her brother’s bed but she kept telling me “I awake!” so I held her to sleep then laid her down in there. And she fell out later!!!! She’s never done that before. No tears, she just seemed confused. At 4, we headed over to celebrate Adilene and Aleia’s birthdays and the kids had too much fun playing with balloons 😂 Went home and had dinner and then the kids needed to run around and collect leaves in the backyard to delay bedtime. Finally got them inside and off to sleep, so we could catch up on Hacks.

We are celebrating Lori’s birthday today! 🎉🎂 Hope everyone has a good week!

Weekend Things

We had a fun and busy weekend! And even though I am getting over a dumb little cold, looking over our pictures from the past three days is making me feel happy 🥰

Dempsey was off from school on Friday, so I dropped both kiddos off at Grandma’s that morning then spent the day juggling work, cleaning the fridge and running an errand. Joey brought them home that evening and we did quick dinner and baths, so we could have a movie night. We’ve watched Sonic 3 so many times, but here we go again! We got them to bed, then watched Top Chef before our own bedtime.

Saturday started with carrot cake pancakes! I was worried the kids wouldn’t like them but they did 👏 Afterward, Joey suggested we go buy plants for our front yard, so we headed to Echter’s, which I looooved! So so tempted to buy all our backyard flowers but one project at a time. Dempsey did convince us to get a poppy though 😍 Back at home, lunch and a nap for Lydi and then Dempsey and I hung out for a bit in the backyard and I really loved it. He’s so sweet 🤍

After Lydia’s nap, we got everyone ready and loaded into the car to head to our best friends’ house! Dempsey absolutely fell asleep on the way there, while Lydia entertained us by sticking a gummy to her face 😂 We had a really excellent dinner (literally love it so much that Mason always wants me to sit next to him at the table 🥺) and then the kids had a BLAST playing outside together. I don’t know how not to have anxiety any time kids are playing near a street, but I’m trying my best to teach them how to be safe. We all had rainbow popsicles then chased our two around before finally getting them in the car to head home. I knew Lydia was tired because she kept begging me to hold her on the drive. Got them to bed then basically went right to bed ourselves. A fun fun night!

We all slept in on Sunday, then had overnight oats for breakfast. I whipped out salads shortly after, then hung with our kids and the neighbor kids while Joey did some more planting in the front yard. Around 11, Aunt Bean and Uncle Wayne come over to watch the kids, so Joey and I could go to the symphony again! We told Dempsey we were going without him this time but there would only be music and no live animals, so it would be a little more boring 😂 We had lunch at The Hampton Social before and it was really good! As for the symphony, it was a really fun and interesting experience, even if most of the other people in the audience were… ahem, older 😋 We got home around 4 and it seemed like everyone had a fun time and were tired! The kids and Joey watched a movie while I made us all dinner. Been waiting to make Pork Milanese for when we were sure Lydia wasn’t allergic to egg, so it was time and it was worth the wait! So good. We got them bathed and off to bed before starting the newest season of Hacks. I made it through 3 pages of my book afterward, I was so tired 😅

I hope everyone has a good week!
