Weekend Things

Hello and how are you surviving the time change?? Dempsey has never ever been affected so I figured we’d have to pay for it with Lydia and so far, I’ve been right! They were both up early on Sunday and girlfriend was up from 3:30 to 4:30 last night ready to party?? Seasoned parents, please tell me this is temporary! We had a fun weekend but why does it feel like there’s just not enough time for fun AND chores??

I’ve always loved a November sunrise and they have been breathtaking this year! Got the kids to Grandma’s then headed straight to my manicure and I’m loving this sage green vibe. Joey brought the kiddos home and I had Blue Pan pizza waiting for everyone ☺️ Post-pizza, we had a dance party to “Dance the Night Away” on repeat and Dempsey screaming “when my heart breaks!” is now a core memory for me 😂

Saturday started with apple cider donut pancakes. A little bit time consuming but delicious! Then Joey and Dempsey were gone for most of the morning. First, making horseshoes and having fun at Home Depot then to Dempsey’s swim lesson. Back at home, Lydia graced me with an hour and a half-long nap that let me get some stuff done around the house (including unpacking our family holiday pajamas!) and then I was able to put Dempsey down for his nap and take my girl for a long walk around the lake. It was too nice not to get outside! At 2:30, Lori came over to hang with the kids while Joey and I headed to our Denver Film Fest showing of The Taste of Things. We liked but didn’t love it. The cooking scenes are truly astounding but the plot left us wanting. The kids had fun while we were gone and even got a visit from Delaney!

A Sunday that started at 5:50 AM 😅 I guess our sweet children just wanted us to get a head start on the day. Joey was already up, so he grabbed them while I laid in bed a bit longer but once we were all up, we loaded up the stroller and walked to get coffee. Did I mention the weather was beautiful this weekend?? Spent the rest of the morning trying to get some laundry and meal prep done before our matinee showing of MAMMA MIA! I’ve wanted to see it at The Buell for YEARS and it did not disappoint! It’s just undeniable! Got some picture updates of the kids from Grandma Sheila 🤍 Got home, said goodbye to our clan of babysitters, finished cooking dinner, then got the kids to bed. I was so tired and kept feeling like it was much later than it actually was. Here’s to a quick adjustment to the time change for us all!

Weekend Things

We had a nice low-key weekend featuring Friday night ramen (Lydia’s first and she loved it!), playing with all of Dempsey’s new birthday toys, dinner in with Aunt Bean and Uncle Wayne and a snowy Sunday that ended with brisket sandwiches and pumpkin carving. I want to pretend this was a good recovery weekend after the busy-ness of last weekend but actually Lydia has been sleeping HORRIBLY for the better part of the month and collectively, we are TIRED. I think it’s a combination of that cold from earlier in the month and the three teeth she has coming in but I am praying for better sleep soon.

It was a chilly Friday so it only felt right to order in ramen from Uncle. Dempsey protests most dinners these days but he’ll still eat ramen and it was Lydia’s first time trying it and she could not get it in her mouth fast enough! Hurray for a peaceful dinner amidst the usual chaotic ones 😂 After the kids were in bed, we watched Thursday’s episode of Big Brother then got into bed ourselves.

Happy Saturday! Started with French toast and Lydia wouldn’t even try a bite and ate 100 blueberries instead. I sent that photo of her to my mom and sis and said “I hope she enjoys her last moments of standing up in her highchair because her new one with a five-point harness will be here Sunday!” 😅 Meanwhile, Dempsey ate two full pieces of French toast 🎉 Afterward we busted out a bunch of Dempsey’s new toys and it was a fun time for all of us! Dempsey went to swim then took a nap and once he was up he INSISTED on going out in the snow. It was so cold and we only lasted a few minutes. That evening, Aunt Bean and Uncle Wayne came over 🤍 I cooked dinner for our family and they ordered in from Ginger Pig and my sis made us Moscow Mules. That picture was taken seconds before Dempsey pulled down his pants so I could itch his butt?? 😂😂 The snow was starting to really come down, so they left right around the kids’ bed time and then Joey and I started I’m Your Man but dang, I was so tired and didn’t make it long.

We woke up to lots of snow! But Joey and Dempsey braved it anyway for biscuit sandwiches. My favorite! I don’t think we did anything too exciting for most of the day but Joey and Dempsey carved pumpkins later on. It’s funny, I could not get him to join Joey at the table but he eventually got into it (or into poking the pumpkin with a very sharp carving tool…) and he hasn’t stopped asking to carve more pumpkins since! I put some brisket in the slow cooker before breakfast then Dempsey helped me make some really good sliders with it. He did so good helping and I thought it might make him more willing to eat them come dinnertime, but instead I think he ate two slices of Muenster cheese and a lot of honey mustard mayo while he helped me and then didn’t want to eat any at the table 😞 The rest of us thought it was excellent! Ended the evening with the kids watching Room on the Broom and then after they were in bed, we watched Big Brother then went to bed and had another horrible night’s sleep. Poor Lydi and poor us!

Happy Monday!
