Weekend Things

Hey, it’s October! Just going to spend the entire month thinking about last October when I was very pregnant and waiting for the biggest and best change of my life ❤ In other news, Dempsey’s sleep has been so rocky lately and I am in a very anxious place about it all. Seems he’s fighting every nap and bedtime lately and I swear I can hear him crying even when he’s not crying. Just wanted to be real about my mental space, lest you should look at my Instagram account and think it is all perfect over here. I’m chalking it up to a stuffy nose, an uptick in separation anxiety at this age and whatever else is going on in the ever-changing brain of a baby. We’ll make it through, but dang, I’m struggling.

A Friday birthday dinner for Uncle Adam! Chad made this New Orleans cemetery for his front yard and it looks amazing! There’s also a skeleton biker on a motorcycle on the other side of the yard and Dempsey wasn’t really sure what to make of it 😂 Baby’s first lasagna! And yes, that is a bruise on his forehead from when Mom let him fall 😢 We tried to start a movie when we got home but someone was not having any of that going to bed business, so we gave up on that plan.

Saturday morning we set out on another leaf peeping adventure! We pulled over just outside of Bailey for a back-of-the-car breakfast and Dempsey was very excited when he discovered he could pull himself up in the trunk 😂

Get this, he fell asleep shortly after we got back on the road, so we decided to drive past Kenosha (our original destination) and head through Boreas Pass. I’m so glad we did because it was glorious!!!! I think we were just a week or two past prime viewing but there were still plenty of beautiful trees to see. Boreas is, in fact, an extremely bumpy dirt road and yet, Demps slept through almost the entire pass 🤷‍♀️ In the end, Kenosha was maybe the most boring part of the whole drive. There were about a million cars parked along the road though!

One last stop at Outer Range for lunch x3 and beers for the adults. The weather was perfect and I hadn’t been there in a few years (since before the expansion) and was amazed at how much of a one-stop-shop it is now! Dempsey chowed down on a tofu veggie bowl we got him and was straight eating mushrooms right from Joey’s hand with his mouth 😂 He was having fun checking out all the dogs there too! Did a quick parking lot photo shoot before we hit the road for home and someone was being a total goof!

We all took naps once we got back home and I felt semi-revived afterward. Leftovers for dinner later on and then, once we finally got that kiddo to sleep, we actually got to watch our movie. Glad we finally got around to watching The Sopranos last year during quarantine! I felt like this movie was stuck between being about Dickie Moltisanti and being about young Tony Soprano and the two storylines didn’t really go together. Almost wish it had been MORE about Tony or not about him at all! I was totally rolling my eyes at Ray Liotta in the beginning and by the end, I really loved his performance. I feel mixed about it overall. Really liked some stuff, really didn’t like other stuff.

Just a laid back Sunday that started with whole wheat buttermilk waffles for all. Afterward, Joey had another appointment at the Stretch Lab and I had plans to just relax but Dempsey was NOT having naptime despite being so tired so I ended up holding him and I haven’t had to do that in so long! I tried putting him in his crib at noon and he was immediately awake and crying. Whyyyy? I let Joey take over so I could sneak in a run. It’s definitely nice when it’s cool enough all day to go on a noontime run!

Later that afternoon, Dempsey played with his new favorite toy, a pumpkin decoration and we did a few chores before heading over to my parents’ for dinner. My mom got toys and a new rug all for that Dempsey boy. Isn’t she the best?? I think Huni’s ears were his favorite toy though 😂 We ate pulled pork tacos with rice and Chantilly for dessert, then headed back home. It’d been too long since I’d seen my sis and Wayne and I already miss them again!

Dempsey only cried for ten-ish minutes at bedtime, so I’ll take it and then we watched the season finale of Mr. Corman. Only took us the entire season to call it the right thing 😂 Afterward, Apple TV+ suggested this animated short and I knew I should never trust animated things to not make me cry!!! Very good but very sad. Hope you all had a nice weekend!

Weekend Things

How is it almost the end of September?? While I am pretty excited for October, I am also really loving this month and I’m not ready for it to go! We did our best to take advantage of this perfect time of year with one last Rockies game, a beautiful outdoor bridal shower, as many meals al fresco as we could fit and a final outdoor project. It was truly the best!

Me and that happy boy took our usual Friday morning walk to the coffee shop to meet Joey after he finished his 10 mile run (😱) and then we grabbed donuts from Berkeley Donuts across the street and maybe ate them from a paper bag while we walked home. Dempsey liked cinnamon-sugar best and you know what, bud? Me too!

He was at Grandma Lori’s that day getting in a gooooood nap and thank god, because we had important evening plans of dinner at McGregor Square and his first ever nighttime Rockies game! Before he was born, I definitely had dreams of taking him to a bunch of Rockies games but look, this kid goes to bed at 7:30, so a 6:40 starting time doesn’t really work out. We decided we could push him this one time and he did sooooo good! First, dinner at The Original, which had a fun vibe inside — Dempsey was very entertained by that peg board — but the food didn’t super blow us away. The short rib stroganoff was great though and Dempsey LOVED it! Joey and I could barely keep up, trying to cut up pieces of pasta, mushroom and beef for him. Did Joey and I even eat any?? 🤔

He was a blast at the game! We even stayed through the 7th inning stretch! There was a little girl a few seats down who was doublefisting chicken tenders and Dempsey was plenty entertained by that 😂 I can’t say I was really paying attention to this season, but I had so much fun at every game we all went to, so that’s good enough for me 🥰

Saturday morning, Joey was out running and Demps and I were making pumpkin ricotta pancakes! They were really good. Afterward, Joey went out to his appointment at the Stretch Lab because it is 2021 and you can now pay money for an assisted stretch. He’s only been complaining about how sore he is ever since 😂 We also hung up Dempsey’s first finger painting from when he was at Lori’s on Friday. She sent us a video of him making it and he kept trying to eat the paint 😂😂 It’s obviously my favorite piece of artwork EVER.

We took it pretty easy the rest of the afternoon and then I headed out for my last bridal shower of the year… Chelsea’s! It was at this gorgeous house that I would now like to live in and the weather was PERFECT. So wonderful to celebrate Chelsea, who is going to be the most beautiful bride, I just know it! Back at home, Joey was holding down the fort, entertaining Dempsey AND cooking dinner. How does he do it?? Those chicken parm sliders were so good! After Dempsey was finally down for the night, we fired up Venom (because the sequel is coming!) and we were in on it! I’ve never really gotten the whole Tom Hardy thing — after Mad Max: Fury Road, Dunkirk and The Revenant, it was starting to feel like he never actually spoke in movies — but I’m starting to come around.

A Sunday with no plans ❤ We debated ordering in for breakfast but nothing was sounding like THE THING, so I made us soft scrambled eggs instead. Joey made some hash browns for he and Dempsey and all our plates were just a little bit different and I love that! Afterward, we hung outside and then while Dempsey was napping, Joey and I chilled inside and looked over out calendar for October. That little boy is going to be ONE real soon and I cannot believe it!!!! After he was up, we headed to Ace (we’ve been practicing wagging our finger at the dog and saying “no, no, puppy,” so he was wagging his finger at all the employees 😂🥺) for paint and then Joey picked up lunch for us. I told Joey I wasn’t that hungry, then naturally ordered a double decker fried chicken sandwich and fries 😂 Dempsey helped put up some Halloween decorations in his room and he was so proud of his own work 😍

While he was down for nap #2, Joey and I actually started this project we’d been talking about for months… painting our front door! It was starting to feel like we weren’t actually going to ever do it, so we were both pretty surprised and pleased when we made it happen! I LOOOOOVE the way it turned out and doesn’t it look so cute with all our mums out front too?? Dempsey woke up and was helping pull weeds while I put on the final coat of paint. Fall salads with all the things for dinner and then we watched Big Brother, and episode of What We Do in the Shadows and went to bed. What a good weekend!
