Weekend Things

What a summer solstice weekend! We were busy and I’m feeling it today πŸ₯± But we had so much fun. Dempsey was off from school on Friday, so we all went to the Colorado Railroad Museum and then Saturday was a packed day of soccer, a playdate, Lydia’s first movie in a theater (!!!!) and a neighborhood party. I was so tired on Sunday but we still made a trip to the farmers’ market, got our chores done and hit up my parents’ pool. Just so much good fun but I’m ready for the kids to go to bed on time and to not engage in any social activities for a few days πŸ˜…

I wanted to take advantage of Dempsey’s day off from school, so he and I met Auntie Lauren and Landon in Golden and looked at the indoor exhibits while we waited for Chad, Lori and the girls to meet us after their art class. Then we all rode the train together! I think the kids all really liked it. It was a 100 degree day but we still had a lot of fun looking through all the trains outside and then I helped load up the kids in the car and sent them off to Grandma’s while I went home to work.

Once they were back home, we filled up some water balloons and ordered pizza from Blue Pan. The kids were too busy playing to actually sit down and eat more than a few bites but Joey and I thought it hit the spot! A song from Minecraft has been popping up on Spotify when we listen to music, so we decided to have a movie night and watch it. I don’t think the kids understood at all what was happening but they seemed entertained anyway. We still need to finish it at some point. Got the kids to bed then went to bed shortly after.

A fun-packed Saturday! I made us some whole wheat buttermilk waffles and then we walked over to soccer practice. Our girl was still feeling shy but at one point, she and Dempsey went onto the field and used the soccer ball to knock over some cones. That’s honestly the most I’ve seen either of them do πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… I was so proud! The coaches brought popsicles for the kiddos because it was such a hot day. I thought that was so thoughtful. After lunch, I took Dempsey over to a friend’s house for a playdate. He had so much fun, it was so cute to see! Overheard him decline a popsicle because he’d already had one at Sissy’s soccer game πŸ₯Ί

We headed straight from our playdate to the Alamo because we were taking Lydia to her first movie!!!! She did so good! She was dancing to the music, eating her popcorn, hiding her face at the “scary” parts and told us “that was fun!” when it was over. Also, I thought Elio was super sweet and funny. It’s in the trailer, but when his alien friend tells him “well I like you and I think you’re fine” I almost cried! I’ve always imagined how fun it would be to take your kids to the movies and so far, it’s lived up to my dreams! Our neighbors invited us to a solstice party and we couldn’t resist! The kids had a great time and we even did a little solstice activity with flash paper and the fire pit, which of course, turned into smores for the kids. Headed back home shortly before nine and got everyone to bed.

Looking back, I should’ve slept in on Sunday but instead, Joey got up to run and I got up to do a Peloton class. After we had breakfast with the kids, we walked over to the farmers’ market and what’s that thing where I can’t wait to go every week and then within 3 minutes of being there, I can’t wait to leave?? πŸ˜…πŸ˜… We got cherries, tomatoes, coffee, popsicles and a new succulent for Dempsey because he asks every week and really, why not? After lunch, Lydia’s nap, chores and maybe my nap, we headed over to my parents’ pool. Felt so good and I can’t believe how brave Dempsey’s gotten in the water. Lydia too! Afterward, we went back to my parents’ for dinner and my sister gave me a little Zero Balancing session because she just got done taking my Dad’s class this week. Felt so good, I’m so lucky πŸ₯° Dempsey and Lydia got a Half Moon too πŸ₯Ί Got the kids home and bathed and then we all went to bed. I’m tired!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Father’s Day Weekend 2025

First things first, I woke up at 3:30 AM both Friday and Saturday to watch the last two concerts of the Hope on the Stage tour live from South Korea and I REGRET NOTHING! I had a feeling all seven member of BTS would be there and they totally were. Two of them even performed with J-Hope. We are so back!

A little bit of tiredness aside, we had a really good Father’s Day Weekend, packed full of good summer fun. Friday dinner out, Saturday morning soccer, our company picnic at Elitch’s, a trip to the farmers’ market for the kids and I while Joey golfed and fajitas with my family later in the day. Also, we ended Father’s Day with a walk around our neighborhood and it was so nice πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Not jarring at all to go from three hours of sitting on the couch in the dark by yourself to getting your two children and up and ready and out the door but they were actually pretty good to me πŸ˜… Lydia and I dropped Dempsey off at school and then I took her to Grandma Lori’s before heading back home to work. We all had dinner at Fire on the Mountain later on then took a field trip to our old house, which we’ve been renting out for the past five years. So surreal to be there again (and look at all of the projects Joey did over the years in there) but this time, with two kids we didn’t have when we lived there. It definitely needs some work and a deep clean though 😬

I only dozed off one time during the concert but it really was a truly epic performance and one that I think only J-Hope could pull off 🀞 Afterward, we all had pancakes for breakfast and headed off to Lydi’s second week of soccer. Nope, she’s not a fan πŸ˜‚ I think she made it onto the field a couple of times but she mostly just wanted to sit in her folding chair and eat snacks. What can you do? Dempsey was so good to her and I even heard him tell her “I’m so proud of you!” afterward πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί Headed straight to Elitch’s afterward and we had a really fun time! We rode the carousel with Grandpa Steve then headed to the kids area to traumatize Dempsey on the very first thing we rode. LOL at Lydia getting off and saying “wasn’t that fun, Buddy??” when it clearly was not for him. We did as much as we could do over there then headed to the pavilion to have lunch and visit with everyone else. The kids all got balloon animals and Dempsey got an airbrush tattoo. Lydia and I left around 1 so she (but mostly so I) could take a nap and then I had to call Joey and Dempsey back home around 4! They returned with that giant red banana that’s now living in our home with us and Dempsey named “Banana Bob.” πŸ˜‚ I ran out to get a pie and a few other things for Father’s Day then made us some Hawaiian chicken sliders that were really easy and really delicious. We watched the Top Chef finale after the kids went to bed but I was basically asleep as the announced the winner so maybe I should re-watch 😬

Joey had a 7 AM tee time on Sunday, so I let the kids sleep in while I worked out then we all had breakfast — I made myself a latte with that vanilla blueberry simple syrup! — and headed to the farmers’ market. Dempsey is always on the lookout for the root beer flavored popsicle and they had it this week! Lydia only sort of made a mess eating hers πŸ˜‚ It was already hot when we got back, so I let them run through the sprinkler and it truly felt like summer. Joey came home while we were eating lunch and the kids gave him their gifts πŸ’™ I put Lydia down for her nap then we did a few things to get ready for visitors and everyone showed up around 3. Joey wanted fajitas and they turned out so good!!! Had dessert a little bit later then went for our walk and made a stop at the fairy garden 😍 It really was such a good night with our family. I hope you all had a good one too!
