Father’s Day Weekend 2024

What a weekend we had! Highlights being Inside Out 2 with our boy, throwing out Cracker Jack during the 7th Inning Stretch at the Rockies Game and a Father’s Day celebration that started at the pool and ended with a really good family dinner. All exhaustingly the best!

Took Dempsey to a 3 PM showing of Inside Out 2 at The Big Show (aka the Alamo Drafthouse’s ginormous theater) and had so much fun. Taking your child to the movies is one of my very favorite parenting experiences. Every time I do it, it feels too good to be true. I thought the movie was good and at an hour and a half, somehow still too long 😂

Saturday started with banana waffles and playing around until it was time to walk over to the park for soccer. Dempsey had a much better time this week! He still put up a fight staying out there the whole time and wanting to be held, but he also participated in a good amount of the drills so I’ll take it! It was so hot 🥵 We went home for popsicles and lunch, then put Lydia down for her nap.

While one was napping and the other was watching a movie, I made salads for the week, pesto (Demps helped and he did so good!) and lemonade and later on, we had illegal Pete’s for dinner and headed to the Rockies game. We were selected as the season ticket holders that get to throw out the Cracker Jack during the 7th Inning Stretch and it was such a cool and fun experience! Lydia looked right into the camera and waved and it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. And Dempsey threw out a couple of bags himself. It was a late one for the kids and they weren’t in bed until 10:30 but I think it was worth staying up late!

Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who spent the day golfing and left their wives to fend for themselves with the kids 😋 I got the kids up and ready and fed and then we headed out to the Farmers’ Market. Got a handful of stuff and none of it was produce. Also some 9 AM popsicles for the kids and Lydia made an absolute mess 😂 When we got back, my kids played with the neighbor kids and then we all went into our respective homes for lunch. I got Lydia down for her nap and sat down to hang with Dempsey and not too long after, Joey made it back home. Once Lydia was up, we opened cards and presents then got changed and packed up to head to my parents’ pool!

Dempsey was so excited and went right into the pool and tried to jump on his floatie then fell right into the water, followed by me in all my clothes to pull him out 😳😬 I think we were all a bit freaked out but he was okay it didn’t seem to scare him off of going back in with an adult. Took Lydia a bit to warm up to the water but I think she had fun too. Back at my parents’, we had a really good spread of pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad and fresh corn on the cob. Then a lively game of “monster in the closet,” that entailed Dempsey checking my parents’ closet with a flashlight and Lydia standing in there in the dark waiting for him 🤣🤣🤣 At bedtime, Dempsey told me that was his favorite part of the day! We had dessert then headed back home to clean up, get the kids to bed, sit down for 10 minutes then go to bed ourselves. Summer is always so go, go, go but summer with kids is a whole new level. It’s been equal parts exhausting and exhilarating and I’m really loving it!

Weekend Things

What a weekend! I feel like June/summer are off with a bang and I’m truly loving it. I switched my Wednesday and Friday and had the day off the kids, so we met up with a couple of my friends from book club and had such a fun time at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science! Then our first day of soccer (more on that later…) and our company picnic at Elitch’s on Saturday. Recovered on Sunday with a leisurely breakfast and stroll to the Farmers’ Market then just played/did chores at home before having a fun taco (& margaritas for the adults) dinner. Looking forward to a normal week before another jam-packed weekend!

Joey had a Friday morning golf tournament so I want endless credit for getting the kids up and ready and fed and out the door to get to the museum by 9 AM (we were actually a bit early!) 😂 I got to meet my friends’ 7(ish) month olds for the first time and man are they cute! Meanwhile, my two were running around so I was glad to have some help chasing them. Back at home, Lydi read to herself then went down for a nap while Dempsey and I ate lunch and relaxed. Joey came home later on to pick the two of them up and take them to Chad’s to feed the fish while I made us dinner. We hadn’t had this quick veggie curry in sooooo long but everyone loved it.

Tried to put the kids to bed together in the same room but it was mass chaos, so we moved Lydia back into ours and decided we’d try again another day. It was truly the sweetest watching Dempsey try to console her though 🥺🤍 I was so excited to watch Hit Man after the kids went to bed and it did not disappoint! We are truly in the summer of Glen Powell and I am here for it. I will say the movie took a turn toward the end that I didn’t totally jive with but the rest was good fun.

Lydia was up early on Saturday, so Joey got up with her and they made giant pancakes for all of us. Around 9:40, we loaded the kids in the stroller and walked over to the park for Dempsey’s first soccer practice and it was… quite the show from him. He kept telling us “his legs were too tired” and went full limp noodle mode for the entire 45 minutes we were there. I’m trying to brush it off, but I was sad. Hopefully next week is better! Sissy had fun at least 😂

We walked back home and got right in the car to head to Elitch’s. Rode the carousel first thing then made it over to the tent where our company picnic was being held. I feel like there’s never enough time to talk to everyone, but I got to chat with a handful of people and chase the kids around for a bit before Lydi and I took off to get her a nap. I feel like my truest self is to be extremely protective of my children’s sleep, so sorry not sorry 😅 Joey and Dempsey stayed and ended up riding a bunch of the kids rides, which I was so surprised and impressed by! I think they had a good good time. Lydia and I picked them up later on, then went home for dinner leftovers and baths. Attempt #2 to put them to bed together was way more successful. I maybe sang to them through the camera for fifteen minutes but hey, whatever it takes!

A happy happy Sunday! We had a quick and easy breakfast before heading out to the Farmers’ Market. Got some strawberries & tomatoes, plus pink lemonade and a donut for the kids. It was gluten free and I’m sorry, but it was the strangest texture 😂 Back at home, much playing, movie watching and chore doing before I left to get my hair cut. When I got back, the neighbor kids were asking for Dempsey, so he and Joey went over to play and then Lydi and I joined when she was up from her nap. I had some beef in the crock pot and had made a strawberry simple syrup earlier in the day, so tacos and margaritas for dinner! It all turned out really good and Dempsey was straight spooning pico de gallo in his mouth (which is interesting considering he complains about onions being in anything else 🤷‍♀️). Tried to get in a game of Chutes & Ladders after dinner, but the kids ran away and Joey and I played by ourselves. For the record, I won 😋 Got those babies to bed together again (!!!) and watched the penultimate episode of The Crown. I can’t believe we’ve almost finished, I didn’t think we’d ever get there.

Happy Monday!
