Weekend Things

October is off to a great start! It’s really one of my favorite months and it’s going to be chock-full of fun stuff 🎃 We had a very chill Friday night at home, snuck in a trip to see the changing leaves, went to a fall festival, attended Boo at the Zoo for the first time, made sourdough pancakes and stuffed in too many chores before heading to Delaney’s birthday party on Sunday!

They replaced the water line at our house on Friday morning but they were done around 1 PM and after lunch, I snuck out for a walk around the lake and to listen to Taylor’s new album. I thought it was neither offensive nor groundbreaking and just kind of middle of the road. Fine by me! I prepped dinner before the kids got home so it came together really quickly and tasted great. The kids and I made s’mores ice cream on Thursday night so we got to eat it after dinner and wow, it was so good! Afterward, baths and bedtime for the kids and then we prepped breakfast for the next morning, watched GBBO and went to bed ourselves.

It was feeling like now or never for leaf peeping, so we got up and got going on Saturday morning. Made overnight oats for all of us to eat in the car on the way up to Kenosha Pass. It was already semi-busy up there but we lucked out with a parking spot and did a short little hike. Lots of leaves had definitely already fallen but we still saw some good stuff. Nothing like breathing that fresh cool mountain air and letting your eyeballs get flooded by bright yellow leaves. Dempsey carried that skeleton around on a stick the entire time and that little lady made me carry her the whole way 😅 I’m glad we went!

Stopped at Home Depot on our way back, hoping to just sneak in and pick up the kids craft kit (it was a haunted candy box!) but you know Dempsey recognized where we were when we pulled into the parking lot and had to go in! Back at home, Lydia and Joey went over to the fall festival to grab lunch and after Dempsey set up his new skull decoration, he wanted to go over too. Face painting, cotton candy, a giant pickle, putt putt and Lydia won a bag of cookies at the cake walk! I got that girl home and into her crib and she proceeded to play around in there for an hour before falling asleep ðŸĪŠ

Got ourselves ready and headed out for our 4:30 entry to Boo at the Zoo! We’d never been before so none of us knew what to expect. It was mainly candy stations (they were seriously handing out the biggest handfuls of candy!), characters walking around and a few decorations. I think we all thought there’d be a bit more but it entertained my kids for two and half hours, so I can’t complain 😂 Lydi was so excited to wear her princess costume (she kept saying “you’re a mommy princess and I’m a sister princess!” ðŸĨš) and Dempsey’s werewolf make up turned out so good, thanks for Joey! Depsite Lydi’s grumpy face, she was so excited to get a picture with Glinda and Elphaba 💚 Got home around 7:30 and the kids were all wound up so we didn’t get them into bed until 8:30 but then we got to watch an episode of The Pitt before bed.

Set my alarm to wake up early and work out on Sunday but when it went off, it was a hard no for me 😅 The kids woke up shortly after and then we all made our way downstairs for sourdough pancakes because our starter was finally ready! That was a gloopy gloopy batter but I think they tasted pretty good. You definitely got that sourdough flavor. Afterward, Joey and I took turns hanging out with the kids while the other one worked out/did their Sunday chores and then I attempted to put Lydia down for her nap before we realized Delany’s birthday party started half an hour earlier than we’d both thought. Scrambled to get ready and finish up our projects before heading out. Lydia never did take that nap and you could tell she was tired. She was grumpy and had a really hard fall 😟 At least she cooperated for those cute pics! She ended up falling asleep in the car on the way home, poor thing. She woke up to eat dinner and take a bath and then we got them both to bed. Whew! We ended our night with The Amazing Race (I was falling asleep at one point but got to see the ending) and then off to bed!

I get to take Dempsey on his field trip to the pumpkin patch this week and we’re both really excited! I hope everyone has a good Monday ðŸĪ

Weekend Things

I had a busy start to Friday, but then the rest of the weekend was pretty laid back. Dempsey was over at his Grandma’s for a MUCH anticipated two-night sleepover, so he could help put up all the Halloween decorations they’ve been working on all year! And Lydia was living her best only child life with milkshakes and secret handshakes with Dad and she got to have a playdate with her cousin while Joey and I snuck out to see One Battle After Another. I’ve been thinking about it all weekend, I thought it was so good! Got our boy home yesterday, so we could have some family time before another school/work week started 😊

Joey was up and gone early on Friday, so I was on double duty getting the kids up and ready and fed and out the door for both drop offs, all before my 9:30 manicure appointment. We made it! Got the prettiest terra cotta color for fall and then made it back home just in time for a meeting with the preschool family committee at noon. Whew! Afterward, it was just a normal work from home day though and I got to see Demps for a minute before his patience to get over the Grandma’s ran out. The three of us went to Park Burger for dinner and one child in a restaurant is no big deal! Post Lydi bedtime, we watched Big Brother and went to bed ourselves.

A very chill Saturday, featuring all of two photos 😂 I went in to get Lydia after she woke up and she yelled “Mom!” and started clapping. A child that acts like you are the stars and the moon certainly is a good confidence booster ðŸĨ° I made us some apple cider pancakes and then we basically just hung around the house, doing chores and playing. I did sort of feel bad that we weren’t doing something more fun with our girl but she seemed perfectly content. After her nap, we headed over to Auntie Lauren’s, so Lydia could hang with her cousin while Joey and I saw our movie. I was kind of worried how she’d do when we left, but she was totally fine and she had a really fun time with Landon and Lauren ðŸĪ One Battle After Another was so good! I had literally no idea what it was about or where it was going and it made it such a fun and sometimes tense ride. Leo as Lebowski was so so hilarious to me and I just really love Benicio del Toro. Definitely worth seeing! Got to say hi to our boy on our way to pick Lydi up and his little face when he got to show us all his work was just the sweetest ðŸĨš Got our girl to bed and watched Friday’s episode of Big Brother plus the signature of GBBO before we were both falling asleep on the couch 😂

I got in a workout before Lydi woke up on Sunday and then we all had breakfast and hung out for a bit before going to pick Dempsey up. I think he had a good good time and the yard is looking great. Can’t wait to see it all set up and lit up on Wednesday night when we’re over there! The kids ate lunch and I made salads before Lydia’s naptime and afterward, we went out for froyo! Remember when that was all the rage?? Dempsey has been asking for weeks to get “frozen yogurt with gummy bears” not knowing that you can actually do that. I think they had a good time but they were also chasing each other around, screaming and spilling yogurt everywhere 😠 Back at home, Joey started dinner and I took the kids outside to play and run off their craziness. Tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner and then we sprinted through bath and bedtime to get them down before the BB finale came on 😅 What an incredibly lame season, I didn’t really like anyone and the winner was undeserving if you ask me. What can you do? I hope everyone has a good week and is ready to ring in October!
