Weekend Things

These lower key weekends have been so nice 🤍 I got my nails done, had dinner with our best friends, watched A LOT of Olympics, took the kids to Home Depot and the museum, and topped it all off with an afternoon at my parents’ pool. The best!

I had a 12:45 nail appointment and yes, I did get there half an hour early so I could sit in my car and watch the men’s 50M freestyle race and OUCH, my heart hurt for Caeleb Dressel! The kids spent the day with Grandpa Steve and Lorna then got dropped off at the office and were having too much fun over there. We had Hannah, Josh and the boys over and picked up Tocabe for dinner. The kids ran around and played together and the adults sat and drank wine and had mostly uninterrupted conversation?! It was BLISS! Also, they got me two “mystery date with a book” gifts for my birthday and it was the coolest. I can’t wait to read what I got!

We hadn’t had our normal Saturday morning waffles in weeks so it felt really nice to get back to it. We watched the women’s vault final before heading out to Home Depot for the first Saturday of the month craft. Lydia had never been and neither had I. We had a great time! Dempsey was an old pro, hammering in nails and painting and Lydia was mostly interested in the white board marker and mixing all her paint together but she did help me hammer one nail in and I helped her spread some of that paint on the wood. They turned out so good! Back at home, we got the kids’ lunch together and were just hanging out when Joey reminded me I had an eye doctor appointment in half an hour 😂🤦‍♀️ Afterward, more Olympics, playing outside, family workout — Dempsey wanted to do his trampoline workout video while Joey and I did some yoga 🙂 and then Joey cooked us dinner. This black pepper tofu was so good and everyone seemed to like it! 👏 We got the kids bathed and in bed then watched Love Lies Bleeding and it went slightly off the rails toward the end but I really dug it still.

Joey and I were feeling very indecisive about our Sunday plans but we eventually decided to pick up biscuit sandwiches from Rise & Shine. The olive oil rosemary biscuit was so good! And we got to watch Suni win that bronze medal on the uneven bars before packing up and heading out to the museum. We got there right as it opened and headed straight for the health exhibit, which we pretty much had to ourselves for a good hour. Walked through the orca exhibit but it wasn’t the best place for little kids. Snuck into the Discovery Zone fifteen minutes before it closed for cleaning and then ended our visit building a bird nest. Dempsey was nice and cozy and didn’t want to come out 😂 Back at home, lunch and Lydia’s nap, then I made salads and we watched the men’s 100m race and WOW, THAT WAS EXCITING! Our feed cut out as they were waiting for the results and I was SURE the Jamaican sprinter had won, so imagine my surprise when we got the feed back up and Noah Lyles was celebrating. Whew! Once Lydi was up, we headed over to my parents’ pool — the sun went away and even though it was upper 90s, we were all chilly in there! — then back to their place for dinner. We had a good time! Got the kids home and cleaned off and into bed before firing up Big Brother then getting into bed ourselves.

We have a short week because we’re heading up to the cabin on Thursday! Can’t wait 😉

Weekend Things

Welcome to Monday! We had a good good weekend, that included a Friday night in, riding the Denver Trolley, celebrating my mom’s birthday, some solo Mom time on Sunday and then a spontaneous trip to the museum. Oh and looooots of Olympic coverage! I love it so much!

The kids and I picked some baby plums in the backyard before Grandma Lori came to pick them up. I spent the rest of the day working and with no appointments booked, the day felt very chill. Made us all some pesto mini meatball soup for dinner and the peak of summer heat is probably not the best time to make soup but oh well, it tasted great! We let the kids watch the beginning of the Opening Ceremony then took them up for bed and finished the rest by ourselves. Joey says the ceremony had a lot of criticism online but I dug it! Loved seeing all the performers all over the city, plus Celine performing from the Eiffel Tower?? Stop! It’s too good!

We had a busy but super fun Saturday! Started with a swim lesson for Dempsey. His regular coach is at the Olympics and I’m so jealous! And also ready for her to come back, because Dempsey has been so nervous with the subs. Afterward, we headed downtown to ride the trolley with Grandma Lori! It was so cute and fun and I think Dempsey really liked it 🤍 Afterward, we took our time (with a quick stop into REI for Dempsey and I 😂) walking over to BriDer for lunch. Lydia has no chill at restaurants (or anywhere) these days, climbing on everything, running everywhere and is somehow so independent and so attached to me at the same time. I’m tired 😅

Back at home, Lydia took a nap, Joey, Dempsey and I watched some swimming and then I made peach cobbler for dessert later on 😉 Once Lydia was up, both kids got baths and then we tag-teamed a cute hairstyle for her. My family came over around 5:30 for birthday festivities! We had such a good time, drinking wine, showering my mom with gifts, eating some really good burgers and of course, finishing it all off with cobbler. It started raining a few minutes into dinner so we dashed inside, but what can you do? I hope my mom felt loved because she really really is!

What a good Sunday. Felt like it’d been forever since we had pancakes, so maybe that’s why they tasted extra good?! Demps and Lyds were pretty into slalom canoeing and archery and then Joey took them to the park and I walked to get a facial. I’d been wanting to try out Heyday and Lori was kind enough to get me a gift card for my birthday 🥰 Felt so nice! Back at home, lunch, naptime/quiet time and I made salads for the week. It felt like we’d been watching TV for six hours, so once Lydia was up, we headed to the museum again. It was super busy but I really love it there and so do the kids! We went to some areas I hadn’t been before, so that was really cool. I think Dempsey’s favorite part was pressing the elk bugle button 😂 We had pulled pork in the crockpot all day, so dinner came together pretty fast once we got home and then we hung out outside until the kids’ bedtime. After they went down, we watched Big Brother then got into bed ourselves.

It’s going to be a hot, busy, fun week! Wishing you all well 😊
