Weekend Things: A Texas Wedding

Whew!  After a couple of travel snafus (our Airbnb cancelled on us the day before we were due in, then our flight was cancelled at 2:30 AM on the day we were to fly out and we had to scramble and make it on one leaving four hours earlier), we made it to Texas and can I just ask, HOW DOES ANYONE LIVE IN TEXAS??  Early June and it’s already in the upper 90s with full humidity.

But we got to see Tyler and Brianna tie the knot and a wedding is always fun!

Our first stop was for beer and food, of course.  We all felt lukewarm about our beers, but this food was GOOD.  Sidewinder fries forever, please!

Took a trip to NASA and as cool and educational as it was, I had pictured the training facility to be fancier?  I thought it was going to be Google level, but instead it was swivel chairs from 1960 and sowing machines?  We took a little tour around the campus that I found quite interesting and whoa, ever seen a space ship??

Made it back to our hotel in time to shower and get ready for the rehearsal dinner, featuring Rudy’s BBQ. Cathy gave such a lovely speech!

The wedding was on Saturday and sorry it looks like Joey and I are really sweaty.  It’s only because we were really sweaty.  I think it was easily 90° at the reception!  But that’s just when you drink many glasses of chilled rosé, use your plate as a fan, attempt a line dance and dress up at the photo booth, right??  Tyler and Brianna had such a lovely entrance dance and honestly, I just really love attending weddings with Joey.  We have such fun! ♥

It’s probably for the best that I have so few photos from Sunday because it was a literal 100° and I was so sweaty!  We had bought really good tickets for the Astros game and only once they were bought did I have a moment of panic about sitting outdoors for 3 hours, but then Joey reminded me their stadium is a dome.  Hallelujah!  We all agreed that an indoor stadium just doesn’t feel the same, but the Astros won so I’m giving us all the credit 😛  That’s stadium number TEN for me!

Afterward, we walked over to Craft Beer Cellar Houston (which must be connected to our beloved Craft Beer Cellar New Orleans!) for a glass and a game of Sequence, then met up with a big group of family, including Brianna and Tyler, for dinner.

We flew back home (and had our fingers crossed that our flight wasn’t cancelled again!) Monday afternoon, but Joey and I did sneak in a quick morning trip to Blockhouse Coffee Shop and it felt fully like my kind of place (except later on, when I was really buzzing on iced coffee…) ♥  One last congrats to the newlyweds and man, does it feel good to be home!

Weekend Things

Last night, I was trying to decide what was sadder.  The end of A Star is Born or yesterday’s Rockies game.  Either way, it means I’m feeling emotional raw today, so please be gentle.

Friday night, we decided to do our full week’s worth of grocery shopping and that turned out to be a bad idea.  Not that Whole Foods was all that busy but by the time I made it to the check out line, I was just exhausted.  Luckily, take out from Uncle and cuddling up on the couch to watch a movie cured everything.  We watched The Lobster and it was so quirky, so strange and so much darker than I had expected.  We liked it though!

Saturday started with a drive to The Boulangerie, a new bakery in South Denver, to pick up a fresh loaf of brown rice sourdough bread.  Guys, it’s so squishy and soft and delicious and also gluten free??  How?!  While we were in the area, we decided to grab coffee at Steam Espresso Bar and what a smooth latte it was!

Afterward, we quick prepped a salad, packed it and ourselves into the car and drove to Estes Park.  Joey’s dad has a newly bought and renovated cabin up there so the whole family was invited up.  We totally saw elk on our way!  We stayed a few hours then drove back to Denver.  Whew!

But we had to come back because we had very important evening plans, aka seeing A Star is Born.  I’ll just preface by saying I hadn’t seen ANY of the other versions so, except for what you can glean from the trailer, I did not know the plot.  OH MY GOD, it was so sad!!!  Everyone was a mess of tears (except Joey, who was laughing at everyone’s pain…) and emotion by the end.  Despite how sad it was, I thought the movie was REALLY GOOD!  Lady Gaga IS a star, that much is certain.

Yesterday, as Joey was out in the cold running 12 miles, I was at home feeling super energized by coffee, a phone call with my mom and getting a jump start on lunch prep.  Maybe it was Rockies game excitement/anxiety!  We left our house, in many layers (though I was still freezing!) at 12:30 and then watched our beloved Rox get swept and shut out and taken out of the playoffs.  It was honestly heartbreaking.  I think I was numb from the cold yesterday so it feels even sadder today.

Ending aside, it was such a fun and exciting season.  From a snowy Opening Day to games with family and friends, to watching a game in San Diego, to meeting Kyle Freeland to winning that Wild Card.  Till next year, Rockies! ♥

Ended Sunday with a good cold weather meal of Smoky Sheet Pan Chicken with Cauliflower before hopping into bed to read.  And now, if  you don’t mind, I’ll probably go listen to the A Star is Born soundtrack until I can’t stand it.  How was your weekend?
