Weekend Things

As Joey said Sunday night, “this weekend was weird, but I still had fun.” Mostly it was weird because we are currently in Memphis, so the usual get-ready-for-the-work-week stuff (grocery, lunch prep) didn’t need to be done, leaving us a lot of free time to do what exactly?

We had zero plans for Friday night so after leaving work later than anticipated (being out of the office part of this week has its drawbacks), we were “those people” who go on a Friday evening run.  Then I made us dinner! I watched Bon Appétit make eggplant on Facebook Live last week and totally wrote down the instructions so I could re-create it and it turned out great!
I was REALLY excited about that beer because it was a Three Floyds collaboration but then it was kinda boring. Not boring though, was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou which I’d never seen but truly loved. Angelica Huston is a boss.

We had a plan-free Saturday morning and I know we have plenty of Saturdays like that, but between training runs at the end of the summer, being in Florida and going to Illegal Pete’s last week, it felt like we hadn’t spent a Saturday morning at home in so long! Later on, we needed to get out of the house so we spent some time at American Cultures, then came home and tried to decide how much our trees have grown since last year?

Since we were leaving town, we were trying not to cook and that seemed like a good excuse to go try a new restaurant. I’ve had Pizzeria Lui on the brain for weeks! It wasn’t too busy inside but they had some pretty wood tables, beer with pull tab lids (how have I never seen this before??) and, uh, pizza. Really really good pizza! I hope to go back soon.

We had breakfast with my mom and sister on Sunday morning and look, if there’s a 45-minute wait at Devil’s Food, head two doors down for coffee and a giant donut hole! But maybe actually don’t because I did that and felt emotionally unstable for the rest of the day. Overstimulation is a tricky thing.

I spent the afternoon at Jade’s baby shower. She’s about to be the mother of three boys and I think she might have her hands full for a while 😋 Afterwards I went home for some quiet time but also took myself on a run then roasted some Delicata squash rainbows as part of dinner. Squash season has me feeling good this year!

How was your weekend?

Weekend Things

This weekend was really really good.  The sun was out and it was just warm enough to sit outside for Friday dinner with Hannah and Josh, do a little bit of garden work and enjoy a park brunch.  It felt productive but relaxed, which means I cleaned out my closet and got lunches made for the week but I also got a Saturday afternoon manicure and took myself to yoga.  I want to relive it all again right now ♥

I spent all of last fall trying to find the best Pumpkin Spice Latte in Denver and decided it was at Cherry Bean, so on Friday, Joey was adamant about driving over to get me one.  I’m so undeserving of this affection, but who am I to argue against a Friday morning latte present? 🙂

After work, we headed to Erie for dinner with Hannah and Josh.  We got to see the beginnings of Project Nursery (Side Note: Hannah texted me a picture of the finished product on Sunday and I can’t keep looking at it.  SO CUTE!) before heading out to dinner at Community.  News Flash: That place is still REALLY REALLY good!  We also walked over to a little chocolate/gelato shop where I tried to convince Hannah she needed a chocolate baby carriage and then we listened to instrumental versions of popular songs while we enjoyed our dessert.

Saturday was just perfect.  We woke up and headed over to the 16th Street Mall because: FREE BREAKFAST BURRITOS AT ILLEGAL PETE’S!!!  Sorry, we were just sort of excited.  We did wait in line for half an hour but so worth it because, turns out, walking around the Farmers’ Market is 100x more fun if you’re also eating a breakfast burrito.  Afterwards, we grabbed coffee from Pig Train and headed inside to do a little work.  Serious Question: Why have we never thought to hang out at one of the many tables inside Union Station??  I need to do that more often.  Plus, it was extra cute in there with all the fall/Halloween decor!

Back at home, I unpacked our adorably small pears from the Farmers’ Market and then we harvested all the butternut squash from our garden and I am so genuinely excited to use them up this season!  Joey also cleared out everything but our strawberries and parsley and then… WE WENT TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH… IN OUR OWN BACKYARD!  Clearly, we were very excited about this.  We’ve got those little pumpkins sitting out on the front porch for decoration until we carve them for Halloween and I love seeing them every time I leave or come home!

I got myself a manicure later on and even though it was sort of chilly and windy on my walk there and back, it’s early enough in the season that that briskness kind of feels good!  Joey ditched me to go gamble in Black Hawk that night but it was actually fine by me because I got to finish The Night Of.  I sort of thought the series was just okay.  I didn’t hate it but I definitely didn’t love it either.  What should I watch next??

Sunday started with brunch for Roman’s 1st birthday — actually, it started with me texting Joey three coffee emojis from bed, but anyway… — and it sure was a beautiful fall morning to be out in the sun!  Roman really politely ate that cake and it was just the cutest.  Also, the park we were at was SO NICE.  I kept thinking “where was this type of park when I was a kid?!”

We headed home afterwards to separately do some Sunday chores — made those Buffalo Cauliflower Salads with Creamy Cashew Ranch Dressing and am seriously excited to eat them this week! — and then I went to yoga for the first time in a long time and it felt so nice.  For dinner, we made Burger Steaks with Mushroom Gravy and it all felt so fall comfort food-y in a way that made me really really happy.

We’ve got a whole week of upper 70-degree weather to enjoy and I’m not mad about it.  Happy Monday!
