Weekend Things

Well aside from listening to “Dynamite” a billion times, I’m delighted to report I did more than take pictures of my dog all weekend. We got the nursery about 80% done, ate a lot of take out and watched I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. I’m feeling so happy about it all (except that last part, which has me feeling like I’ll never sleep again 😬). I can’t wait to show you!

Also, both Hannah and Becca had their babies last week and I have so loved getting their updates and seeing pictures of those sweet babies ❤❤❤❤

We’d been craving wings for a while so we got take out from Fire on the Mountain and those fries were on point! Back inside, we started I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. Scary things in general and true crime specifically are NOT my thing but I’d heard this series was good, so we decided to give it a go.

Two episodes later and this little puppy was wiped out! 😂😍

Guys, breakfast is a struggle lately! You know I usually LOVE breakfast but every morning lately I wake up and nothing sounds good! We agonized over what to make and ultimately decided to pick something up from Stowaway. I really miss eating there and I really miss ordering something with poached eggs 😋

I forgot to mention that our rocking chair and ottoman were deliv!ered on Friday and though we’d had this set picked out for MONTHS, it wasn’t until the delivery was scheduled that we thought to measure our super narrow stairway and IT WAS TOO SMALL!!!! We hoped we were maybe wrong or that the chair cushions might squish enough to fit but no. We were in a slight panic but Chad and Lori came over on Saturday and suggested opening up the covering on the bottom of the chair to take the rockers off (I’m definitely not familiar enough with how furniture is put together to have thought of this) and it fit no problem. I cannot even tell you how relieved and happy I felt!!!! Also, it’s so beautiful and comfortable. Andi and I spent a lot of time sitting in it this weekend ❤

Look what else came… our wallpaper! Not going to lie, we definitely thought about backing out on this project many times during the month between when we ordered it and when it came, but then we decided to go for it, so Joey started it up on Saturday. I can’t say I helped physically, but I did keep him company 😋 He got it all up by Saturday night, so it would just need to be trimmed come Sunday. I made us steak fajita bowls for dinner and we hit two more episodes of our show. I’ll tell you what, I could definitely have done without that audio of the Golden State Killer saying “I’m gonna kill you” that they played something like 5 times!!! 😱

Sunday started with yogurt bowls in the backyard. Have I mentioned we’ve had something like seven consecutive 90 degree days?? Combine that with smoky air from wildfires and being outside has not exactly been a joy. We try to keep it to early morning and evenings, but it is still hot!

Afterward, Joey finished up the wallpaper and I LOVE IT!!!! He did such a good job and I’m so grateful. We accidentally broke the second picture frame for the right side, so after this (and delivery from Illegal Pete’s for lunch!) we headed to Michael’s to pick up another and now we just need our Winnie the Pooh prints to come, so we can fill them. The other side of the room needs a few things and then I can unveil that side too 😊

We took the rest of the day easy and just had leftovers, watched Big Brother and finished our show. I SOBBED over Michelle McNamara (or more specifically, her daughter Alice) but I thought this show was really well done and I love how it focused (and ended) on the survivors. Please tell me what you did this weekend!

Weekend Things: Welcome to February

It’s February and there’s snow, a drug mule that listens to Adele (if you know, you know), a kitten and a pitbull that are best friends, a first birthday party, Super Bowl snacks and the prettiest sunset.  I think it’s safe to say this month is off to a good start ♥

Friday night, we headed to the Alamo for the Oscar-Nominated Live Action Shorts.  I’m still traumatized from last year’s barrage of child deaths, so I was nervous but this year’s batch wasn’t nearly as horrific, thank god!!!  I think Joey found them somewhat lackluster but I thought they were pretty good.  Brotherhood was my favorite (compelling story and beautifully shot), but Nefta Football Club was pretty entertaining.

Saturday started with double puppy cuddles then carrot cake waffles!  Not going to lie, I’d been looking forward to making these all week and they did not disappoint.  I also had our groceries delivered and then, since it was nice out, Joey went outside to do some yard clean up and I made some caramelized shallot dip for the next day.  We hit up an open house on our way back to the Alamo to see the Animated Shorts, then hit another one on our way back home (neither were promising).  Guys, I teared up at three of the shorts!  We liked Hair Love and Kitbull best, but man was there some crazy interesting animation this year!

Back at home, Joey worked for a bit so I took some time to read and make salads for the week (one less thing to do on a busy Sunday!), then we saw the prettiest sunset and decided to go out for dinner.  The wait for a table at Fire on the Mountain wasn’t so bad, but the wait for our food was REALLY testing my patience.  At least the food was good!  Back at home, we watched Fighting with My Family and it’s not a perfect movie, but much better than I’d expected and I just really love Florence Pugh, okay??

Sunday morning, we finished watching SNL (I was not really looking forward to this episode but then J.J. Watt was actually pretty good!)  Again, it was so nice outside and the pups just wanted to stay out there… and sit in the planter box apparently.  A bit later, we cleaned ourselves up and headed out for the day.  First stop, Ellie’s first birthday party.  There was a taco bar, a jumpy castle and the birthday girl was in a great mood ♥  She did dig her fingers in the cake but wasn’t really eating it afterward, so she stayed pretty clean.

After that, we headed to the Super Bowl party.  We filled out prop bet sheets and I only had to ask who Andy Reid was, what T.O.P. stood for and then cheated off Joey’s answer for total yards ran 😛  More importantly, Mason was wearing a backwards hat and it was the cutest thing.  There were a few good commercials, but for the most part I was underwhelmed.  Loved that halftime show though!  Also, I made way too much dip.

After that 70° degree day, we are back to 30s and snow, but I guess I’ll live because my parents are finally coming home, Josh and Fletcher will be in town and… IT’S OSCAR WEEK, BABY!  Please have a good Monday 🙂
