Weekend Things

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Maybe slightly less wonderful this year, since we can’t get together with our families for Christmas, but wow is it extra snuggly this December with a little baby 🙂 Dempsey went through a small fussy phase this week, where he decided it was fun to cry like I was trying to murder him when I tried to feed him but thankfully it only lasted a couple of days and now he is back to his easy-going self. Guys, he is up to 9 pounds! And he is smiling and cooing!!!! I can’t even tell you how amazing it is to see him smiling up at us. MY HEART. And knock on wood, but he is still a really good sleeper. He wakes up once between midnight and 2 AM (depending on when we put him down to sleep), then once again around 5 AM. I honestly don’t even mind waking up to feed him. Sometimes I even hold him for an extra 10 minutes afterward. He’s just so sweet!

Grandma Lori came to visit her grandson on Friday and it was so nice because we hadn’t seen her in too long! Afterward, it was take out, Christmas Vacation and decorating the tree. Our office had a Zoom meeting to go over insurance updates last Thursday and one of our employees asked if everyone could see her and when we said no, her response was “good because I’m eating a hamburger right now” ha ha! We’d been craving burgers ever since, so Park Burger was an easy choice. In an effort to support local business, we picked up a tree at Little Man last week and it’s a beauty! Joey put the lights on and then I decorated it by myself because someone was getting overtired and needed to be held on the couch 🙂

Up and at em early on Saturday morning for our annual KBCO Studio C tradition. Except we couldn’t all go get breakfast and wait in line together. We knew Dempsey would be up early, so we volunteered to pick up CDs for my mom. The line took place in your car this year, but when we got there around 7:30 (after grabbing coffee and breakfast burritos at The Bardo Coffee House), there was no line! Joey went in for the CDs and a giant poinsettia (our bathroom is feeling very Christmas-y now!) and we snapped a family photo with Demps at what will be his new December tradition (at least for as long as I make his decisions for him :P).

I had my six week postpartum appointment last Monday and I am all cleared for activity again! I was so mentally prepared for PP recovery to be long and painful and… it wasn’t. I really really lucked out and I know it! I’ve felt fine for a while now but needed the actual okay from the doctor before I tried running again. I hadn’t done it in six months!!! I think I went just under a mile and though I had planned to run/walk, I was able to really slowly jog the whole way! It’s supposed to be nice all week, so I’m hoping to sneak in another try. Felt good to be out of breath from exercising and not from walking up the stairs 😛

Just some holiday decorations 🙂 Lori made that advent calendar for Dempsey and I love it so much!!! Joey was referring to it as “20 more sleeps till Christmas” because he “saw a mom on Instagram say that!” He’s gone full dad mode, guys and I can’t lie, I love it. He also got our house lights up and they look so pretty!

Well, I guess I’ve seen Citizen Kane now. I want to watch Mank this week but I felt I should see the movie it’s about first. I know Citizen Kane is #1 on the AFI best film list but I maybe had to Google “what’s so good about Citizen Kane” after we watched it. I like to think of myself as a film buff in progress but I guess I’m not quite there because it wasn’t super obvious to me why this movie is so highly regarded. After waking up early, we barely made it to 9 PM! There was a baby in the bed afterward! 🙂

Sunday scenes, including sweet potato chocolate chip pancakes, too much coffee, baby smiles for Dad, bath and naps for two sleepy boys and a visit from my parents later on. I thought Dempsey might be awake and give them some smiles, but he pretty much fell asleep shortly after they got there and slept the rest of the time, ha! I don’t think they minded though. He did look like a little angel 🙂 We made salads for dinner and watched a few episodes of Breaking Bad to end the night, but what a good weekend it was!

Weekend Things

Well, I took a total of four pictures this weekend and three of them are food, so an F for me on life documentation, but this weekend was pretty chill and I think we needed it.

Seems like we’ve gone to the movie theater every Friday for as long as I can remember but there wasn’t anything we really wanted to see and my at-home movie list grows longer by the day, so we opted to stay home, cook ramen and watch something on our own TV.  Ugh, that ramen may look okay, but I found it so flavorless and I overcooked that egg TWICE!  Also, we watched The Master and… yeah, it’s unique and the performances are interesting, but I don’t know that I liked it really.  Do I not like Paul Thomas Anderson??  We made up for it all with a piece of the King Cake Emily sent us this week ♥

We hadn’t made waffles in a few weeks so it was time and Joey picked a recipe for lemon poppy seed that turned out so good!  The best things are made with buttermilk, okay??  I don’t know what we spent the rest of the day doing except maybe binge-watching Unbelievable.  Added interest because it takes place in Colorado!  Oh and I also cleaned our fridge, while Joey did some outdoor clean up and then we headed to Lafayette for dinner with Hannah, Josh and Mason.  They are looking at preschools, can you even believe it???  I cannot!  We had dinner at Teocalli and I really really like that place and it’s always good to see our best friends ♥

When we got home, we finished Unbelievable and I really loved it!  I think the world of Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever sooo I was basically guaranteed to like it, but what a scary story that thankfully had a satisfying ending.  We watched all of SNL afterward and Adam Driver is my favorite weirdo!

Sunday morning at my favorite place ♥  Afterward, we made lunch salads (well Joey did most of the work) and I cooked some chickpeas, cleaned the bathroom and actually read for a few hours.  Joey was out in the living room watching a movie when I saw the news about Kobe Bryant on Twitter.  I was really shocked.  So sad that his daughter and seven other people also died.  I can’t even imagine that heartbreak those families are going through right now 😦

I went to yoga later that afternoon, then came home and we made dinner and watched the Grammys.  Now I remember why we stopped watching the Grammys but I really do love Billie Eilish, okay??  I hope you had a nice weekend.  It’s the last week of January 2020, let’s do this!
