2014 Summer Bucket List

SUMMER!!!!!

Oh, sorry.  Just a little bit excited I suppose.  Being a summertime baby, I feel it’s just in my blood to consider summer the best season of all.  Plus sundresses, iced coffee cravings, Red Rocks concerts, BBQs, patios, evening walks?  Love it.  Love it all.  I don’t think I need to mention the added excitement of both my best friend’s and my own wedding, but I will anyways 🙂  The thought of all the wedding festivities and having family in town basically has my heart bursting at the seams.  Now let’s just add the Rockies making it to the playoffs okay??

I’m half tempted to just re-write all of last year’s Bucket List items and/or list things like “Attend a Rehearsal Dinner” but I guess that’s not very creative, so here we go!

#1 Go to a Denver Farmers’ Market

I suppose that the 40 minute drive to Boulder makes going to the FM every Saturday pretty out of the question.

#2 Clean up our yard

I think we already missed prime yard clean up season so I’m not expecting much gardening to go on, but I’m hoping we can do some landscaping and weed pulling still.  Which leads me to my next item…

#3 Grow something!

And in case you share a sense of humor with Joey, no, I’m not talking about weed.  I was thinking more along the lines of a planter of herbs or a salad bowl or heck, a damn succulent.  Succulents are easy, right?

#4 Weekly burger, taco or pizza night!

Preferably al fresco!  Though I’m not opposed to eating any of these things during the dead of winter, they just scream summertime to me.

#5 Try a juice cleanseCheck!

More on that at a later date 🙂

#6 Picnic at a Denver park

I think it’s a requirement of being a Denverite to spend your weekends hanging out at a park.  In other words, I feel like a fraud.  Must remedy this ASAP!

#7 Host a summer BBQChecked a few times!

Okay, this one is kind of cheating because A) we already threw one and B) we already volunteered to throw the July birthday celebration for Joey’s side of the family at our house, but I’m including it anyways.

Under the Wide

#8 Read 3 books from my most recent reading list

I think my reading mojo’s been stolen… but I’ve got some serious plane time coming up this summer so this one should be doable 🙂

#9 Go to Trader Joe’sCheck!

Part of me thinks that place is really annoying and probably no different than Whole Foods or Sprouts and part of me really wants to go.  I guess I’ll just give in already 😛

#10 Go social media-less for an entire weekend.

Last year’s goal was one day, but I’m ready to step it up.  I’m also ready to drag Joey into this one with me but I don’t think he’ll go for it.  P.S. How will I live without Facebook quizzes like the one above??

#11 Brew Root Beer

Our kegerator fits three kegs.  One for Joey’s brew, one for mine and root beer seems like the perfect non-alcoholic drink choice to fill the third keg with.

IMG_4941

#12 Hang wall decorations

This is the only house remodel-y type thing I’m putting on the list so I better be able to accomplish it!

IMG_1394

#13 Build a fire in our fire pit!Check!

I think Joey mentioned something about being a boy scout.

#14 Bike to a Rockies gameCheck!

Preferably more than once, but baby steps.

What’s on your summer bucket list?

Weekend Things

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  I almost wrote “Top of the mornin’ to ya!” then decided that sounded seriously cheesy.  Although I may have actually written that on our chalk wall this morning…

Raise your hand if this weekend’s sunshine has you ready for full on spring.  Okay, so we had about an hour of wind and snow flurries on Saturday afternoon, but otherwise this weekend was so pleasantly warm and sunny.  I loved every single second and took full advantage by taking a walk on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Fact: I love walking 🙂

2

Lunchtime stroll down the street (insert weekend walk #1) for a workday picnic = best way to kick off Friday fun.

4

Prost Brewing is minutes from our house, yet somehow we’d never been!

Verdict: fun atmosphere, awesome Denver view and a good beer selection.  Plus… food trucks!

3

Are you seeing these fries?!  Holy thick cut parmesan bliss.

5

Apparently Joey did not want to be in this picture?

6

So, the Avs lost… AGAIN.  Which I think means I’m bad luck and shouldn’t be allowed at hockey games, but these seats — given to me by one of our suppliers at work — were awesome and it was definitely the most exciting game we’ve seen this year.  Does anyone else feel guilty rooting on violence at a hockey game?

The excitement I feel upon receiving the newest edition (almost just wrote addition) of Cooking Light is slightly embarrassing…

Insert weekend walk #2 to go get my hair cut.  The excitement I feel upon realizing the new hair salon I decided to try out is on the same street I live on, is pretty much at the same level of receiving Cooking Light (see above).  I really did attempt to take a picture of my hair, but selfies are just so uncomfortable.

8

Saturday afternoon productivity: finishing all the painting in our living room and setting up our new island!  I am so in love!  The backside has a leaf that flips up so it can double as an eating area.  We need barstools ASAP!

9

Close up of the falafel salad I was making on the island because it looks too pretty not to share 🙂

12

Long story short: some of us may have had too much fun on Saturday night and pretty much spent most of the day Sunday being lazy on the couch… uh oops.  But around 3 PM, I decided getting up and enjoying the gorgeous weather outside might actually help so we took a stroll through the neighborhood (insert weekend walk #3).

This tree has buds!  Spring is so close I can taste it!  Or at least see it.

13

Obligatory St. Patrick’s Day dinner at my parents’ never disappoints.  My mom actually cooked this corned beef and cabbage in the stout Joey and I just brewed!  How cool is that?  Dinner was followed up by a big slice of red velvet cake for my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday.  And because mom can’t resist an opportunity to bake red velvet.  I’m not complaining!

I’m hoping the spring weather continues this week (insert future walks #4-130948) because this whole getting to be outside without a heavy winter jacket thing is making me feel pretty happy.

Did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend?

Does it feel like spring where you live?

What’s making you happy today?
