Weekend Things

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Maybe slightly less wonderful this year, since we can’t get together with our families for Christmas, but wow is it extra snuggly this December with a little baby 🙂 Dempsey went through a small fussy phase this week, where he decided it was fun to cry like I was trying to murder him when I tried to feed him but thankfully it only lasted a couple of days and now he is back to his easy-going self. Guys, he is up to 9 pounds! And he is smiling and cooing!!!! I can’t even tell you how amazing it is to see him smiling up at us. MY HEART. And knock on wood, but he is still a really good sleeper. He wakes up once between midnight and 2 AM (depending on when we put him down to sleep), then once again around 5 AM. I honestly don’t even mind waking up to feed him. Sometimes I even hold him for an extra 10 minutes afterward. He’s just so sweet!

Grandma Lori came to visit her grandson on Friday and it was so nice because we hadn’t seen her in too long! Afterward, it was take out, Christmas Vacation and decorating the tree. Our office had a Zoom meeting to go over insurance updates last Thursday and one of our employees asked if everyone could see her and when we said no, her response was “good because I’m eating a hamburger right now” ha ha! We’d been craving burgers ever since, so Park Burger was an easy choice. In an effort to support local business, we picked up a tree at Little Man last week and it’s a beauty! Joey put the lights on and then I decorated it by myself because someone was getting overtired and needed to be held on the couch 🙂

Up and at em early on Saturday morning for our annual KBCO Studio C tradition. Except we couldn’t all go get breakfast and wait in line together. We knew Dempsey would be up early, so we volunteered to pick up CDs for my mom. The line took place in your car this year, but when we got there around 7:30 (after grabbing coffee and breakfast burritos at The Bardo Coffee House), there was no line! Joey went in for the CDs and a giant poinsettia (our bathroom is feeling very Christmas-y now!) and we snapped a family photo with Demps at what will be his new December tradition (at least for as long as I make his decisions for him :P).

I had my six week postpartum appointment last Monday and I am all cleared for activity again! I was so mentally prepared for PP recovery to be long and painful and… it wasn’t. I really really lucked out and I know it! I’ve felt fine for a while now but needed the actual okay from the doctor before I tried running again. I hadn’t done it in six months!!! I think I went just under a mile and though I had planned to run/walk, I was able to really slowly jog the whole way! It’s supposed to be nice all week, so I’m hoping to sneak in another try. Felt good to be out of breath from exercising and not from walking up the stairs 😛

Just some holiday decorations 🙂 Lori made that advent calendar for Dempsey and I love it so much!!! Joey was referring to it as “20 more sleeps till Christmas” because he “saw a mom on Instagram say that!” He’s gone full dad mode, guys and I can’t lie, I love it. He also got our house lights up and they look so pretty!

Well, I guess I’ve seen Citizen Kane now. I want to watch Mank this week but I felt I should see the movie it’s about first. I know Citizen Kane is #1 on the AFI best film list but I maybe had to Google “what’s so good about Citizen Kane” after we watched it. I like to think of myself as a film buff in progress but I guess I’m not quite there because it wasn’t super obvious to me why this movie is so highly regarded. After waking up early, we barely made it to 9 PM! There was a baby in the bed afterward! 🙂

Sunday scenes, including sweet potato chocolate chip pancakes, too much coffee, baby smiles for Dad, bath and naps for two sleepy boys and a visit from my parents later on. I thought Dempsey might be awake and give them some smiles, but he pretty much fell asleep shortly after they got there and slept the rest of the time, ha! I don’t think they minded though. He did look like a little angel 🙂 We made salads for dinner and watched a few episodes of Breaking Bad to end the night, but what a good weekend it was!

Weekend Things

What a weekend!  We had our company holiday party, picked up our KBCO Studio C CDs, cried a billion times during Waves and watched more TV than movies?!  Who are we!

No photos from our company holiday party (the first ever!) but just know there was pizza, ping pong and perhaps too many glasses of cider for some of us.  Others of us were getting up at 6 AM the next morning and managed to exercise some self control 😛  KBCO Studio C!  We picked my mom and Wayne up and had breakfast before jumping in line to grab our CDs and I really love this tradition and this CD ♥  For a while, I had to talk my mom into continuing this tradition, but in recent years, her enthusiasm seems refreshed and I’m so thankful because I love spending this time with her!

After dropping my mom and Wayne back off, we decided to just hit up a 10 AM movie.  We’d seen the trailer for Waves and I’d heard good things, but for the most part, we did not know what to expect.  Which means I was fully unprepared for how devastatingly sad it was.  JUST YIKES.  I cried an astounding number of times.  Afterward, we went to lunch at HOJA and just stared at the table in silence.  “I can’t believe we’ll never be happy again,” is a real thing Joey said.  It’s good, but man is it heavy.

Back at home, we made puppy dog treats, finished watching Season 2 of Barry (I told Joey I liked but didn’t love this show but it got really good halfway through Season 2, so I might revise my assessment), made beet wellingtons for dinner, started the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and just barely made it through the beginning of SNL before I decided I was too exhausted to carry on.

Sunday started with pancakes and then Joey left to watch football, so I chilled real hard and also had time to make salads for the week.  Basically as soon as he got home, I left to go to yoga and when I got back we made French Onion Soup for dinner and watched more Mrs. Maisel.  I just want to look and dress like Midge, okay??  Please tell me what fun things you did this weekend! 🙂
