Weekend Things

I have many pretty things to show you today!  Namely, Coors Field, changing leaves, the burger of your dreams, more Coors Field and more food of your dreams (hummus this time!).  Almost makes me forgot the Rockies lost on Friday, we forgot forks for our hiking lunch on Saturday and our server was just taking so so long on Sunday 😛  We are living in that in between summer and fall moment and it is truly the best!

Rockies are, for now at least, first in our division!

It is leaf peeping season in Colorado (a bit early this year because it’s been so dry) and I am officially stalking the Instagram location tags so I can have my finger on the pulse of where to go and when.  Consider this my top priority for the rest of the month!

We hit up Kenosha Pass Saturday morning and it was STUNNING!  The lots and trails just off the highway were packed but we took a tip from this article and found ourselves a mostly secluded trail for a moderate hike, during which I alternated between saying “oooooh, pretty!” and complaining about how we forgot forks to eat our lunch with.  I ate my with my hands and Joey fashioned some chop sticks from some sticks he found on the ground.  No judgment here 🙂  We ate by a pretty beaver pond then drove through Guanella Pass, where we parked so I could take a picture standing through the sunroof, then made our way back home.  SOLID FIRST OUTING!

Back at home and cleaned up, we made Ultimate Summer PLT Burgers for dinner — OH MY GOD, I cannot stress enough how incredible these were!!! — then headed to the Rockies game again.  We won this time!

I went for a run, got a Pumpkin Spice Latte and a haircut on Sunday, but most importantly, we enjoyed a long-awaited dinner at Safta for our 4 year anniversary and look, if your husband coordinates your anniversary dinner with your haircut because he knows you’ll have it all nice and styled, you know you’ve picked a winner.  Our server was waiting WAY TOO LONG between visits to our table but ZERO COMPLAINTS about the food, especially that famous pita + hummus.  We decided next time we go back, we’re just ordering drinks, hummus and dessert 🙂

How was your weekend?

Changing Leaves

On Saturday night, we made a spontaneous decision to take a drive into the mountains the next morning and see the changing leaves. This is something I talk about wanting to do every year but have never actually done. Now that I’ve seen it, I’m totally kicking myself for wasting the past 23 falls without making a trip like this.

Sure, changing leaves can be seen most places in Colorado (we are lucky enough to have a real fall here), but if you go into the mountains, you can see the colors on such a larger scale and it was truly breathtaking.

The night before, I had said I didn’t want to get out and walk around, I just wanted to drive through but as soon as we came across Kenosha Pass, I totally changed my mind. There was a trail right off the road, so we took a little stroll and I absolutely loved it. The yellow of the trees was brilliant, the air was crisp and the woods were so quiet and peaceful. It was just perfect.

Afterwards, we got back in the car and drove a little further to Boreas Pass, which was just as beautiful. The trees were amazing, but I think our favorite part was when a moose popped out of the trees, almost ran into our car and took off on a sprint in front of us! A MOOSE. I’ve never seen one before and certainly never pictured one sprinting. It’s legs were so awkward!

We left around 7 on Sunday morning and turned around at 10ish, which turned out to be perfect because Kenosha Pass was PACKED when we passed it again on our way home. We were lucky enough to have the trail to ourselves, except for a couple of mountain bikers. I don’t think it would have been the same with a bunch of people around.

So glad that I finally got to do this. And that I had good company. I’m talking about that moose. But Joey was pretty good company too 🙂
