October Memory-a-Day

Monday, October 1st: Getting a “Rabbit, rabbit!” text from my mom ♥

Tuesday, October 2nd: Taking a video of the final out of the Wild Card game and feeling really really happy that the Rockies won!

Wednesday, October 3rd: Parking next to Alamo Placito Park on a beautiful fall evening and seeing all the flowers still in bloom and even a couple having a picnic.

Thursday, October 4th: Realizing the Rockies game was going to go later than I thought and I wouldn’t have time to go for a post-work run.

Friday, October 5th: Feeling really irritated by Senator Collins’s smiling face.

Saturday, October 6th: Hearing Joey tell me “I think sitting in a movie theater together is our happiest place!” ♥

Sunday, October 7th: Thinking “at least I won’t have to sit in the cold at 7:40 tomorrow night” as the Rockies were down 6-0 in the ninth inning.

Monday, October 8th: Feeling rushed as I tried to get ready for work and make Joey and I breakfast after getting home from the first day back at the gym.

Tuesday, October 9th: Sitting on my yoga mat, after much back-and-forth decision-making anxiety, and feeling glad I left my house to come to class.

Wednesday, October 10th: Holding back tears as I read this article about Chef Fatima Ali, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, in my office.

Thursday, October 11th: Sending Joey no less than six texts in a row (each more enthusiastic than the last) as I looked through the films showing at Denver Film Fest.  “ROMA OMG!!!”  “IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK!!!!!”

Friday, October 12th: Eating a Cashew-Apricot Bar at 3:30 and feeling really happy about how good it tasted.

Saturday, October 13th: Sitting on the porch swing with Joey and our pup and taking 10 minutes to appreciate some perfect fall weather.

Sunday, October 14th: Curling up on the couch mid salad prep and wondering why I felt so tired.

Monday, October 15th: Bottling a pomegranate-lemon-honey kombucha.

Tuesday, October 16th: Walking up to Brider as Joey said “remember how many times we’ve tried to eat somewhere and when we showed up they were closed or hosting a private event?!” and then seeing a “Closed at 3 PM for a Private Event” sign on the door.  HOW?!

Wednesday, October 17th: Reading an article that broke down all 13 initiatives on the Colorado ballot this year.

Thursday, October 18th: Waking up with a headache.

Friday, October 19th: Buttering a warm pumpkin muffin and eating it at my kitchen island.

Saturday, October 20th: Doing that thing where someone charges me and I don’t understand the price but for reasons unknown, I don’t ask any questions.  Why do I do that??

Sunday, October 21st: Checking my Bolder Boulder race time to see if I’d expectantly beat it, without even trying.  (I didn’t, but I came close!)

Monday, October 22nd: Driving to Little Man for pumpkin chip ice cream and turning right back around when we didn’t see it on the menu.

Tuesday, October 23rd: Attempting to shut our dog in the extra bedroom instead of letting him sleep in our bed and after 10 straight minutes of barking and panicked scratching at the door, giving in and letting him out.  We’re so weak!

Wednesday, October 24th: Sitting at the Hop Alley bar and cheersing drinks with Fletcher, who was in town for a last minute work trip.

Thursday, October 25th: Flipping to the last page of the book I’d just started and realizing it was 901 pages long.

Friday, October 26th: Showing up at Masterpiece Delicatessen to find it closed.

Saturday, October 27th: Taking a 10 minute nap before walking to get a manicure.

Sunday, October 28th: Eating lunch with Andi on my lap in the backyard on a GORGEOUS Sunday in October.

Monday, October 29th: Watching two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale then having Joey tell me we still had 5 episodes left.  When will it end??

Tuesday, October 30th: Eating thee best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had at Work & Class.

Wednesday, October 31st: Finally just microwaving the damn spaghetti squash.

Weekend Things

Does anyone else feel like they blinked and October was (basically) over??  Right now, I am staring up at the calendar pinned to my wall and seeing Rockies games at the very beginning of the month and thinking “yes, I certainly remember that” but now it’s two days from Halloween and the weeks between feel like a blur!  This weekend did feel slower paced though, so I suppose I have that to thank for my semi-composed attitude heading into the final days of October.

Fletcher was in town for a last minute work trip so we spent Friday night with him + Hannah and Josh and, for a brief but adorable moment, little Mason.  We, as quick as we could, went home to tend to Andi Dog and grab something to eat (Brider does a mean sandwich!) so we missed Mason playing in pumpkin guts but he was kind enough to stay awake long enough to see him in his dino jammies ♥

Afterward, the adults carved pumpkins — LOL at Josh’s “nerd pumpkin” — then maybe ate double dessert before calling it a night.  See you in December, Fletcher!

Saturday morning was pretty lounge-y and then we made our way over to a 1st birthday party.  When we left, the birthday boy was OUT but I did see video proof that he eventually woke up for his shark-shaped cake!  I got a late afternoon mani and went with black for the first time ever.  I kind of love it!

Back at home, we took the doggy on a walk then remembered a few things we’d been wanting to do, aka putting “B-O-O-K-S” letters on the little library and planting garlic!  The first project turned out GREAT (thanks, Joey ♥) and hopefully by the spring, we’ll know if the second one turned out as well.  Spicy Kale and Coconut Fried Rice — I loved the addition of the coconut flakes! — and The Witches of Eastwick rounded out the night.  No offense to Cher, who is a goddamned queen, but that movie is not great.

First thing Sunday, we got up and went for a run!  I was sort of impressed with myself.  Afterward, I made up these Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, which were delicious but I think I liked the ones from two weeks ago better and I also should have photographed Joey’s plate instead because it was all decked out in powdered sugar and looked better than mine.  Joey headed out to watch football, so I did one boring chore (cleaning the bathroom, boo) and one fun “chore” (homemade chai!) before heading out myself to do some shopping.  It was actually a very successful trip too!

Back at home, I read in the backyard for a bit and you would not believe how nice it was outside!  Upper 70s and sunshine ♥  We sat out there to do our monthly “get your head in the game for next month” meeting before walking Andi and cooking dinner.  We made this One-Pan Baked Salmon and watched Clue (we recorded all the Halloween movies on Free Form in case you couldn’t tell :P).  I loved both!

Happy Monday!
