Weekend Things: Welcome to February

It’s February and there’s snow, a drug mule that listens to Adele (if you know, you know), a kitten and a pitbull that are best friends, a first birthday party, Super Bowl snacks and the prettiest sunset.  I think it’s safe to say this month is off to a good start ♥

Friday night, we headed to the Alamo for the Oscar-Nominated Live Action Shorts.  I’m still traumatized from last year’s barrage of child deaths, so I was nervous but this year’s batch wasn’t nearly as horrific, thank god!!!  I think Joey found them somewhat lackluster but I thought they were pretty good.  Brotherhood was my favorite (compelling story and beautifully shot), but Nefta Football Club was pretty entertaining.

Saturday started with double puppy cuddles then carrot cake waffles!  Not going to lie, I’d been looking forward to making these all week and they did not disappoint.  I also had our groceries delivered and then, since it was nice out, Joey went outside to do some yard clean up and I made some caramelized shallot dip for the next day.  We hit up an open house on our way back to the Alamo to see the Animated Shorts, then hit another one on our way back home (neither were promising).  Guys, I teared up at three of the shorts!  We liked Hair Love and Kitbull best, but man was there some crazy interesting animation this year!

Back at home, Joey worked for a bit so I took some time to read and make salads for the week (one less thing to do on a busy Sunday!), then we saw the prettiest sunset and decided to go out for dinner.  The wait for a table at Fire on the Mountain wasn’t so bad, but the wait for our food was REALLY testing my patience.  At least the food was good!  Back at home, we watched Fighting with My Family and it’s not a perfect movie, but much better than I’d expected and I just really love Florence Pugh, okay??

Sunday morning, we finished watching SNL (I was not really looking forward to this episode but then J.J. Watt was actually pretty good!)  Again, it was so nice outside and the pups just wanted to stay out there… and sit in the planter box apparently.  A bit later, we cleaned ourselves up and headed out for the day.  First stop, Ellie’s first birthday party.  There was a taco bar, a jumpy castle and the birthday girl was in a great mood ♥  She did dig her fingers in the cake but wasn’t really eating it afterward, so she stayed pretty clean.

After that, we headed to the Super Bowl party.  We filled out prop bet sheets and I only had to ask who Andy Reid was, what T.O.P. stood for and then cheated off Joey’s answer for total yards ran 😛  More importantly, Mason was wearing a backwards hat and it was the cutest thing.  There were a few good commercials, but for the most part I was underwhelmed.  Loved that halftime show though!  Also, I made way too much dip.

After that 70° degree day, we are back to 30s and snow, but I guess I’ll live because my parents are finally coming home, Josh and Fletcher will be in town and… IT’S OSCAR WEEK, BABY!  Please have a good Monday 🙂

Weekend Things

Well, I took a total of four pictures this weekend and three of them are food, so an F for me on life documentation, but this weekend was pretty chill and I think we needed it.

Seems like we’ve gone to the movie theater every Friday for as long as I can remember but there wasn’t anything we really wanted to see and my at-home movie list grows longer by the day, so we opted to stay home, cook ramen and watch something on our own TV.  Ugh, that ramen may look okay, but I found it so flavorless and I overcooked that egg TWICE!  Also, we watched The Master and… yeah, it’s unique and the performances are interesting, but I don’t know that I liked it really.  Do I not like Paul Thomas Anderson??  We made up for it all with a piece of the King Cake Emily sent us this week ♥

We hadn’t made waffles in a few weeks so it was time and Joey picked a recipe for lemon poppy seed that turned out so good!  The best things are made with buttermilk, okay??  I don’t know what we spent the rest of the day doing except maybe binge-watching Unbelievable.  Added interest because it takes place in Colorado!  Oh and I also cleaned our fridge, while Joey did some outdoor clean up and then we headed to Lafayette for dinner with Hannah, Josh and Mason.  They are looking at preschools, can you even believe it???  I cannot!  We had dinner at Teocalli and I really really like that place and it’s always good to see our best friends ♥

When we got home, we finished Unbelievable and I really loved it!  I think the world of Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever sooo I was basically guaranteed to like it, but what a scary story that thankfully had a satisfying ending.  We watched all of SNL afterward and Adam Driver is my favorite weirdo!

Sunday morning at my favorite place ♥  Afterward, we made lunch salads (well Joey did most of the work) and I cooked some chickpeas, cleaned the bathroom and actually read for a few hours.  Joey was out in the living room watching a movie when I saw the news about Kobe Bryant on Twitter.  I was really shocked.  So sad that his daughter and seven other people also died.  I can’t even imagine that heartbreak those families are going through right now 😦

I went to yoga later that afternoon, then came home and we made dinner and watched the Grammys.  Now I remember why we stopped watching the Grammys but I really do love Billie Eilish, okay??  I hope you had a nice weekend.  It’s the last week of January 2020, let’s do this!
