Weekend Things

Last night, Joey said to me “if you ignore the sleep part, this was a Top 10 weekend!” He’s right because even though we are up something like four times a night between the two kids and right now, I’m so tired I could cry, we otherwise had a really amazing weekend! Some time to ourselves, wings with Chad and Lori, amazing weather and trips to two different parks, the SAG Awards and dinner at my parents’ to end the weekend. I’m so ready for spring now!

Lydia and I started Friday at the allergist, being tested for the other tree nuts. I was ready to hear she was allergic to all of them, so I was pleasantly surprised when she got a zero for almonds and pecans and only a mild reaction to coconut. There’s hope for her yet! She has a baked egg food challenge this week, so wish us luck 🀞 Work-wise, Joey and I took a half day so we could go see the Oscar-Nominated Shorts. Grabbed a beer in between! I thought they were good and depressing in the usual way. Wish there had been a few funnier ones in there, but what can you do? Afterward, Chad and Lori brought the kids home and stayed to eat wings with us πŸ₯°

Up bright and early for waffles and a fort! Joey made us some whole wheat & oatmeal waffles and I thought there were so good. And he made a fort for Dempsey that I later maybe took my cup of coffee into and enjoyed a moment of peace πŸ˜‚ Before Lydi’s nap, we played outside and I spotted a first sign of spring when I noticed a tulip coming up! We took the kids to a new park that afternoon and though it was busy, they had a really good time. There was even a hill for rolling down and Dempsey had fun with that. Made cast-iron skillet pizza for dinner — how cute is the mini skillet for Lydia’s mini pizza?? — and “watched” the SAG Awards. The thing about watching an award show while your kids are awake and in the room and that you don’t really take in much of it, but I did see Steven Yeun’s win, Pedro Pascal’s speech and Lily Gladstone’s little head pat on her trophy and loved all of it. I’m still trying to figure out why Christopher Nolan was there though πŸ€”

Picked up breakfast from Sunny’s on Sunday morning and even though I was originally disappointed by how little green chili there was on my skillet, it actually tasted really good. Joey took the kids and Dempsey’s motorized car across the street to play and I knocked out salads for the week all before Lydia’s first nap! While she was down, Dempsey and I took a walk to the Cottage Bakery for croissants then ate them outside with the neighbor kids, who are always good enough to include Dempsey even though they are both older than him. After lunch, we took the kids to another busy park. Dempsey was so brave and wanted to ride the zip line. By the time we left, he was flying across all by himself and loving it! We headed over to my parents’ that evening for dinner. My uncle had shipped fresh crawfish meat and my mom used it to make Γ©toufΓ©e. It was a little spicy for the kids, but I thought it was really good! We had dessert then headed home, but it was a really nice night 🀍 Got both kids to bed — Lydi has been STRUGGLING at bedtime the past week or so (because of teething I think!) but she finally went down easy — and then we worked on our Dune re-watch. Dune 2 this Friday!!!!! Wishing you all a happy week 😊

Weekend Things

Hello! The sun is out and it’s supposed to be in the upper 50s today, so I am feeling that spring in my step 🀩 We had a pretty plan-free weekend, so we were able to be a little bit spontaneous, a little bit productive and ALMOST rested. I’ll take it!

We woke up to snow on Friday and I cannot believe how icy it was out there!!!! I literally fell walking back to my car after dropping the kids off and I’m so glad I wasn’t holding one of them 😱 Had a morning manicure then went back home to work the rest of the day. Joey picked the kids up that evening and Mr. No Nap fell asleep in the car because that’s his new MO. I went to pick up our ramen order and basically ice skated from the car to the restaurant. I’m usually unfussed by winter weather but I REALLY did NOT like how slippery it was out there. That ramen hit the spot on a chilly night!

Get this, we had NOTHING planned for Saturday! I made us whole wheat banana pancakes for breakfast and then both Joey and I fit in a run. We’ve been talking about clearing out the playroom and rotating toys for a month now and while we didn’t bring any “new” toys up yet, we’ve cleaned the bins and cleared out some stuff. I swear we’ll have it done by this coming weekend πŸ˜‚ Luckily, Dempsey is the best helper when it comes to cleaning! We had planned to stay in and cook dinner but Lauren, Adam and Landon invited us to an early dinner at Edgewater Public Market and it seemed like getting out of the house might be a good and fun idea, so we said yes. Of course Dempsey fell asleep on the ten minute drive over πŸ˜… Got home and got the kids to bed early-ish, so we started a movie then went to bed ourselves.

We had a lovely little Sunday πŸ₯° Joey made egg sandwiches for the three of us — freezer waffles for Sissy, but I finally got to schedule her baked egg food challenge so hopefully she passes and can join us for egg breakfasts soon! — and then the boys went to Walmart and I made salads for the week. We hung a curtain around Lydia’s crib in the hopes that it would block off some of the sounds and lights from Dempsey’s side of the room while he’s in this phase of waking up in the middle of the night and coming into our room and also maybe being scared of the dark?? He keeps asking for more and more nightlights, poor buddy! My parents came over that afternoon to watch the kids while we went and saw The Zone of Interest. I thought it was very very good and the sound design is incredible. We’ve seen all the Best Picture nominees now and I gotta say, not a bad film in the bunch! When we got back, my sis and Wayne were also over visiting. Nice to see them both 🀍

After everyone left, Lydia and Joey napped, Dempsey and I rested and then I made biscuit chicken pot pie for dinner and it was YUM! Dempsey actually went to bed early and easy (HALLELUJAH!) but not so much for that little girl who has a molar popping through and has had some rough bedtimes the past few days. She joined us on the couch while we finished Priscilla. Stylistically, I liked it quite a bit! But I felt it did nothing to convince me Priscilla herself was an interesting person and as charming and handsome as Jacob Elordi is, even he can’t make me forget how young Priscilla was when Elvis first took an interest in her 😬 Literally how did that pass the approval of anyone around them??

I hope everyone has a good week, I’m feeling hopeful about it!
