Weekend Things

Hello and Happy Monday from Colorado, where it’s supposed to be 70 degrees today! I love it, but I’m also worried about our lack of moisture, so here’s to some wet snow or rain in March, please?? We had a really nice weekend, and it’s starting to feel like we’ve really hit our groove with these kiddos and our weekend routine. Friday night dinner out, Saturday pancakes and Lydia’s swim lesson and then Joey and I alternating time to ourselves, even if it’s just a workout πŸ™‚

Friday, I dropped Dempsey off at school then worked from home and made some sourdough chocolate chip cookies. Got to pick my boy up and walk home with him, then we each ate a cookie and headed to pick Lydia up at Lori’s. I couldn’t necessarily taste that they were sourdough but I just love a cookie. Picked up Joey and headed straight to Edgewater Public Market for dinner. We hadn’t been in so long! The kids were moderately-well behaved, so they got to get candy out of the gumball machine πŸ˜‰ Got them into bed and started Sentimental Value but more on that later.

Saturday started with a double batch of Γ¦bleskivers: basic and cream cheese-filled. Both were a hit! Shortly after, Joey took both kids to Lydia’s swim lesson. She got in no problem so I think she’s finally comfortable with her new coach 🀲 While they were gone, I painted the trim on Dempsey’s side of the room. After lunch, the kids and I watched Ponyo and Lydia spent the first 20 minutes asking “where’s Ponyo??” I think they liked it and I did too! We played outside for a bit that afternoon while Joey finished up the trim painting and then I made “a giant meatball” aka meatloaf for the kids. My re-brand really worked because they both ate it! LOL at Lydia’s hair πŸ˜‚ After bath and bedtime for the kids, we finished our movie. I think Joey slept through a significant portion of it and I could understand why, because it’s not the most attention-grabbing but the slow-burn really pays off at the end. I thought the scene between the two sisters was so moving and wonderfully acted. And I thought Stellan was so good too!

Sunday started off on a weird foot. Lydia woke up and spent the rest of the night in our bed, so when she popped up shortly after 6 AM, I told Joey I’d pay him $100 to go downstairs with her so I could sleep a little longer. After breakfast, Joey and I snuck upstairs to look over their room and I really love how the colors turned out. We did realize, however, that the only way two twin-size beds will fit in here is if we lose the top part of Dempsey’s bed and put them side by side the opposite direction of how we’ve painted it πŸ˜…πŸ˜… I guess we will deal with that once we bite the bullet and buy Lydia a big girl bed, but I’m holding off as long as possible!

Dempsey said he wanted to go check out a new park, so that was our plan but why does it take SO LONG to get your kids out of the house to go do something THEY asked to do?? Anyway, we ended up at the City Park playground, where my sister and Wayne met up with us and we spent two fun hours playing and letting the kids ride their bike/scooter. I think it really turned everyone’s mood around! Back at home, lunch, chores, quiet time and science experiments until dinnertime and then the kids watched a movie in their fort while Joey and I started the SAG Awards. Thought the actual telecast was just okay — I just wanted the TV awards to be over with! — but wow was the Sinners energy in the room fun! I feel torn because I really want Timmy to have an Oscar but I was so so happy to see Michael B. up there. We’ll see what happens at the Academy Awards in a couple of weeks but I’m feeling way less certain — about Timmy and OBAA — than I was a few weeks ago!
