Weekend Things & Oscar Thought

I don’t know if it’s because of weird sleep, Oscars hangover, weather whiplash or anticipation of a new BTS album, but I’m feeling discombobulated today πŸ€ͺ🫨 Going to try to focus in long enough to tell you about fire alarms going off in my house, a K-Pop Demon Hunters Laser Show, my first ever “sourdough ear” (LOL) and going 20 for 24 on my Oscars ballot. Let’s do this!

A very chill WFH day on Friday and I actually popped out mid-morning for a massage and it felt SO nice! Back at home, Lori returned the kids and hung out for a bit and then I roasted a chicken for dinner. Thought it was going to be a bigger hit with the kids but Lydi didn’t eat a single bite and Dempsey mostly ate crispy chicken skin. What can you do? After we got them to bed, we fired up One Battle After Another for a re-watch and… it rips!

Dempsey’s had a cold all week, so we had their humidifier going FULL BLAST and I was mid-teeth brush when the mist set off our fire alarms! Dempsey slept right through it (HOW??) but Lydia was startled awake and insisted on coming into our bed, where she tossed and turned and kept demanding that I stand up and rock her. I tried several times to lay her back down but she’d wake back up the second she felt the bed. Then we read 100 books in her room, ate cereal and she finally gave it up and fell asleep on the couch at 2 AM. Oy!

All that being said, Saturday was an off day. Joey headed out for his long run that morning, so I got the kids up and made us all buttermilk waffles. I honestly don’t remember what we spent the rest of the day doing. Lydia went to her swim lesson, Dempsey entertained himself by hitting a miniature piΓ±ata in the backyard and I started a loaf of sourdough. Little Miss fell asleep for her nap in about 5 minutes and no one could have seen that coming πŸ˜‰ After she was up, we loaded up and headed over to the museum for our K-Pop Demon Hunters Laser Show at the planetarium. Dempsey seemed so tired (even that red light can’t fully hide his raw little upper lip) and Lydia spent most of the show asking “where’s Takedown?” but I thought it was really cool. Plus who doesn’t want to sit in a room full of other fans listening to that soundtrack loudly??

We went to Vine Street Pub for an early dinner after the show and our boy was fading fast πŸ˜” He still managed to take those cute pictures of Lydia and I though. Joey surprised me with a new phone on Friday and Dempsey has definitely been putting the upgraded camera to good use! Got them home and vegged to a movie for a bit before bedtime. Joey and I finished our movie and watched the opening of Harry Styles on SNL before going up to bed ourselves. No joke I had just turned out my light and rolled over to go the sleep when THE FIRE ALARMS WENT OFF AGAIN!!!! Both kids slept through it though and thank god because I did NOT think I could do another night of Lydia shenanigans.

Joey got the kids up and fed on Sunday so I could sleep in πŸ₯°πŸ₯° I came down and made myself breakfast and then we spent the entire day trying to get our kids to do something other than watch TV 😫 We did put out our Easter decorations (my house will never be aesthetically-pleasing because my 5-year-old likes to help decorate and honestly, I couldn’t be happier about it), play a game of Slap Jack, build a marble run and hang some stuff up in their room, but mostly they watched TV. Some day are like that. I baked my sourdough and while it got a little too dark, I was proud of that “sourdough ear” and it tasted pretty good too!

Made buffalo wing caramel corn and ramen for the Oscars and then finally committed to my picks and filled out my ballot. Dempsey mainly voted Frankenstein for everything πŸ˜‚ The kids had their first “Top Ramen” experience and seemed to like it. I thought the show was mostly good, though some of the bits fell flat for me. Thought the musical performances were great, but did the sound seem kind of muffled to anyone else?? Highlights for me were Billy Crystal’s tribute to Rob Reiner, Autumn Durald Arkapaw’s win (not only is her work in Sinners great, but she’s the first female cinematographer to get an Oscar!), seeing Leo with a lightstick and Michael B. Jordan winning for Best Actor.

Wish us all a more normal week and I’ll see you on the other side of the Arirang release! πŸ’œ
