Party Weekend Things

Hi all, Happy Monday!  I guess I should be kind of depressed that it’s the beginning of another work week but this weekend was so fabulous and I think I’m still riding out the high I have from all the happiness.  I can’t say the same for Joey who has been so.out.of.it. this morning.  But I can’t say I blame him.  We had our engagement party last night and the whole evening was packed with family, friends, food… oh and the Broncos game.  But let’s backtrack to Friday.

We spent the first half of Friday night taping our bathroom so we could finish painting it.  Joey announced that we wouldn’t be relaxing until everything was taped so we busted it out quick then dove into our Great Divide beer supply, where we found this sticker.  I see these on cars all the time and was so excited to find one.

We also made some giant salads (aka the only kind of salad I’ll eat) and watched A Guy Thing.  I wasn’t kidding about knowing almost all the lines to this movie as I kept having to remind myself to stop speaking them alongside the actors.  How sad is it that I can even sing along to the background songs?  Actually, don’t answer that.  I also wasn’t kidding about wanting to watch all these movies.  We took down Runaway Bride on Saturday night!

On Saturday, we did end up getting all the painting done.  I’d seen a bunch of pictures of striped walls on Pinterest and loved the way they looked so we decided to do the same in our bathroom.  Not gonna lie, I also hoped it would give the illusion of a bigger bathroom but I’m pretty sure it still looks teeny tiny.  Anyways, the stripes came out great.  We love it!  I guess the 10 different tester colors we bought were worth it.

We took a break later in the afternoon and headed over to my brother and sister-in-law’s for a little family celebration.  It’s so fun to see my nephew so into school and all the crafts he’s done there.  I hope he inherited my brother’s artistic-ness and not my inability to draw a stick figure.  My niece was all dressed up in a little ballet outfit and it took me right back to my dance class days.  All she needed was a sticker on her right foot so she can know which shoe goes on which foot.

Sunday involved more work on the bathroom.  We just need to finish up the sink and switch out the shower curtain and shower head and I think we’ll be done.  During a unsuccessful trip to Target for a bathroom mirror I may have purchased two more pairs of nude heels.  Of the four pairs, the two size six pairs were too small and the two size six and a half pairs were too big.  Is six and a quarter a size?  I ended up wearing a too small pair and they were actually fine.  I hoping they’ll stretch out?

Please excuse the horrible quality of this picture — it was dark and a photoshop expert I am not.

So like I said, yesterday night was our engagement party, hosted by my parents and attended by our closest friends and family.  It’s seriously my hugest pet peeve when bloggers say they didn’t take pictures because they were having too much fun and forgot but seriously… I was having too much fun and I forgot.  We had it at a pizza restaurant — the owner is a client of my mom’s — and everything, from the food to the wine to the company was fantastic.  I am totally and utterly blown away by the outpouring of love.  Every time someone would tell me how genuinely happy they were for us I felt like crying.  My dad gave us a toast — despite me begging him not to 🙂 — and it was perfect.  Short, sweet and from the heart.

As a shy girl my entire life, I have this subconscious notion that people don’t like me and this party (and our whole engagement thus far) has totally convinced me otherwise.  I have been met with nothing but honest support and happiness that has warmed every inch of my heart and made me even more excited for the big day.  And I didn’t think I could be any more excited.

In other news, I just realized I put on all my makeup except mascara, so maybe I’m more out of it than I thought!

Wedding Movie Favorites

So it’s probably no secret that I’ve got wedding on the brain in a major way, but aside from thinking (and talking… too much) about my own wedding, I’ve been thinking about (and quoting) a lot of my favorite wedding movies lately.  As in, when I was brainstorming reception venue ideas, I told my sister, “I know, the Steak Pit!” and recently asked Joey if our wedding colors could be “Blush and Bashful.”  So without further adieu, my favorite wedding movies!

Father of the Bride (the Steve Martin re-make, obviously!)

Yeah, this is probably my most quoted.  And come on, how could it not be?  I have watched this movie more than a normal person probably should, but in my defense, it is amazing.  The part where Steve Martin has a major wedding meltdown at the grocery store and gets arrested for “removing the superfluous buns” is the best thing ever.  Oh and just the other day my mom asked if we would be having “the chipper chicken” at our wedding, so I guess I know who to blame for my obsession with this movie.

Father of the Bride

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Ah, the movie that made me want to become a food critic.  And have a week long wedding celebration filled with extravagant brunches, family sing-a-longs and a baseball game, naturally.  Plus, who could forget that conversation where Julia Roberts compares Cameron Diaz to crème brulee.  “You’re never gonna be JELL-O!”  Anyways, I guess my only beef with this movie (besides the heinousness of Julia Roberts’s character) is that Julia and Dermot decide they would marry each other at… 28?  Isn’t that a little early to be giving up?

My Best Friend's Wedding

The Wedding Singer

Joey and I are dying to have a live band at our shindig (that price part is getting in the way :P), but while looking into options a few weeks ago, I almost Yelped “wedding singers” and was reminded of how much I love this movie.  No joke, I watched this on a VHS tape that I recorded from TBS.  Life before DVR was hard.  I sang an Adam Sandler version of “Holiday,” complete with the line “Everybody spread the word.  I live in my sister’s basement!” the other day and it may not have been the first time (or the last!) time I’ve done so in the past month or so.

The Wedding Singer

Runaway Bride

Does Julia love wedding movies or what?  Back in high school I used to watch a movie on repeat for weeks while falling asleep and this movie was definitely on that list.  In other words, I could probably quote the entire thing.  But I won’t…right now.  If Hale, Maryland really existed (and I didn’t already have other plans), I wouldn’t mind getting married on a hilltop there.  And for some reason, I find Richard Gere to be so perfectly irritating in this movie and he and Julia’s relationship to be so believable that I just can’t help but love every minute.

MSDRUBR EC005

Sixteen Candles

Okay, so not exactly a wedding movie per se, but there is a wedding in it!  And you know what, I’d say it’s kind of important to the plot.  Despite loving this movie (so so much!), I cringe every time the wedding scene comes up.  Am I the only one who feels completely mortified for her poor sister?  I mean, her husband has to carry her to the car.  I’m not a bridezilla, but if I were her, I’d probably demand a re-do of that one.  Added bonus that the non-wedding-related parts of this movie are pretty great also.

Sixteen Candles

A Guy Thing

Please tell me you’ve seen this one!  It’s probably one of my favorite movies (that I haven’t seen in so long!) because it is just good stupid fun.  It’s not just lately that I quote this movie, I’ve been doing it for years.  I meant this to be a 5 movie post, but I had to add this one.  If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend you find it then laugh for days when Jason Lee tells Selma Blair that he bought her a pair of underwear from a bin at Spin Mart.

A Guy Thing

And that concludes this episode of “how I spent my life watching movies to the point of being able to recall them perfectly by memory.”  And now I am feeling the strong urge to watch every single one of these movies this weekend.  Hope Joey’s in!
