Weekend Things

Another weekend with just our little threesome and we certainly made the most of it! We were so excited to see Hannah, Josh and the boys for dinner but that family cannot catch a break with sicknesses, so we had to cancel again. We want them all healthy again! Instead, we wore Mom’s glasses, went to breakfast, watched some movies, hit up a Fall Festival, went out to dinner, made pop tarts and snuck in a trip to the Farmers’ Market.

Dempsey’s hair is in rare form lately and it’s been so amusing (too bad he has a haircut scheduled for Wednesday) 😍 After we put him to bed, we started and actually finished Everybody Knows, which we’d had on our Favorites list for four years. We liked it! Pretty much exactly what it looks like from the trailer but Penėlope Cruz and Javier Bardem are always good. Mostly proud of us for watching a whole movie without falling asleep😂

Started Saturday with breakfast at Stowaway. We hadn’t been in so long! Probably because every time we go it’s one thing or another that annoys us but the food is just so so good. You never know what you’re going to get when you take your toddler to a restaurant but Dempsey was super well-behaved this time around 🙌 Back at home, Joey put up our outdoor Halloween decorations then we walked across the street to a Fall Festival, where Dempsey (with some help from Joey) made a skull ornament, Joey got some tacos that I regretted also not getting and we all took a family photo. We walked by last year but I’m glad we actually went in this year!

Post-nap, Dempsey was kind enough to give me a pedicure 😂 And then, to make up for not seeing the King Family, we took ourselves to Edgewater Public Market. We’ve been here a bunch of times and sitting in the brewery reigns supreme. Just so much calmer and quieter in there! Dempsey is getting to a much anticipated age where he can tell me what he wants to eat instead of me just guessing. Hallelujah! On the way over to Edgewater I asked what he wanted for dinner and he said “chicken nuggets!” Well okay then! He surprisingly enjoyed that honey mustard (a boy after my own heart!) and unsurprisingly loved that ranch dressing too. We played a couple rounds of Guess Who afterward and he really liked helping flip the cards down.

We decided to drive by a house that had some super tall skeletons in the front yard last year and they had majorly upgraded this year!!! People were out and walking around to look at everything, so we joined them. I think that werewolf sort of scared Dempsey because of how big it was but he just wanted to touch everything else 😂 That basement Pennywise terrified me! I would not even want to be home alone knowing that was down there! After Demps was in bed, we started The Red Shoes but I was too tired to finish it 😩

Started Sunday which a virgin Bloody Mary that I’d been craving for weeks. Sidenote: When we were brushing our teeth for bed that night, Joey and I both said we had heartburn and it was probably from those Bloody Marys, so I guess we are old now 🤣 After breakfast, we decided to walk over to the Farmers’ Market. It was so nice out and it wasn’t too crowded, so I think I might just be a fall market-goer from now on. We bought the prettiest flowers and also saw the prettiest flower outside a nearby preschool on our walk home. I also unpacked the bag of apples and pears I’d bought and saw that someone had taken a single bit out of each one on his ride back in the wagon 😂

Dempsey and I’s project of the day was making pop tarts! We had started the dough the day before, so all we had left was to roll, cut, assemble and bake. He was having to much fun sprinkling flour and using the rolling pin. They were a little rustic looking but tasted so so good! I was going to frost them, but then I ran out of energy, plus my mom always made us buy the unfrosted ones so it felt like a good ode to her and my childhood 😂

Saw them make chicken salad croissant sandwiches on a recent episode of The Kitchen and have been craving them ever since! Hit the spot! Demps got a bath before bed and then we finished up The Red Shoes and not to be dramatic, but that long dance scene two-thirds of the way through, was life-changing. Can you believe it when a movie has an actress who is also a phenomenal dancer?! The talent! Hope you had a good weekend 🙂

Weekend Things

Happy Monday and welcome to October! It’s going to be a busy month and I kind of hope it flies by because your girl is 28 weeks pregnant but she’s feeling 38 weeks pregnant 😂 We received a huge dose of much needed happiness last week when Jory and Betsy’s baby girl, Delaney, was born! We got to meet her on Saturday and there is just NOTHING like the feel of holding a newborn. So good for the soul ❤ Also good for the soul: a large serving of queso, “Pocus Pocus,” leaf peeping, getting out the house to see a movie and a really comforting homecooked meal.

Started Friday with a walk to the coffee shop. We are borrowing Lori’s wagon for a bit to see if we’d like to get one in lieu of a double stroller before Baby #2 comes. Opinions on this choice are welcome! After we wrapped up work, we ordered Tocabe for dinner — crazy how we ate there once in 2013 and were unimpressed and it took us nine years and moving half a mile away to try it again and decide we love it! — and then Dempsey wanted to watch “Pocus Pocus.” I think he sat through ten minutes then asked to read a book instead 😂 That’s probably an accurate review of the sequel.

Look, we finally went leaf peeping! We got maybe a later start than we should’ve because by the time we got up to Golden Gate Canyon State Park (literally so many words in that location title…), it was super busy. When we hiked there in August, we felt like we had found a secret spot but turns out we did not 😂 Every single parking lot was full! We at least got to see some really beautiful views of the leaves while we drove through but someone was having a little meltdown in the backseat because they wanted to get out of the car. We ended up pulling over at one of the pay stations to grab a few minutes of fresh mountain air, stretch our legs and get up close and personal with the trees then drove back home. We’ll know for next time now. Saw a dino park on the way back too!

We ate lunch and put Demps down for his nap then headed over to meet the baby as soon as he was back up. You forget just how light newborns are until you hold one! She was so sleepy and sweet and beautiful ❤ Demps seemed a little unsure at first but he felt her soft head and by the end of the night, he would say “Delaney!” every time he needed to see where she was. I’ve been explaining to him that she is Elliott’s sister too. We get to see them again later today and we can’t wait! Meanwhile, I can’t believe I still have to be pregnant until December 😱😋

Started Sunday with some cinnamon apple waffles. They were vegan and good thing because Dempsey would not keep his little fingers out of the batter 😂 After breakfast, we were really productive and cleaned out Dempsey’s closet, got out all my colder weather maternity clothes, cleaned our humidifiers and did some laundry. Felt good! My mom came over at 11:45, so Joey and I could go see a movie. We saw Don’t Worry Darling and it looks good and Florence Pugh is amazing as usual but I just had A LOT of unanswered questions at the end, and not the kind you could figure out if you just think hard enough, just gaping plot holes and things that did not make sense. Oh well, at least there was Chris Pine in that crop top. Back at home, we made salads for the rest of the week, started dinner and tried to keep Dempsey entertained. Our chicken and rice took a lot longer than the recipe said but then it tasted so good that I forgot all about that annoyance. Put our boy to bed and finished up season two of Hacks, which is just such a good show. I liked how this season ended so much that I wished it was the series finale but I don’t think it will be. Hope your weekend was nice!
