Weekend Things

Last night, Joey asked if I had a good weekend and I thought back on all the stuff we did and thought “YES!” I had a really good weekend. Rockies Opening Day (Dempsey’s second and I cannot believe how much less anxiety I had this year than last 😬), perfect Saturday weather for a celebration of life, dinner with my sis, Sunday breakfast at Onefold and just a million laughs because our crazy boy is always getting into stuff and entertaining us ❤

I thought life would be easier once Dempsey got down to one nap, but now that one nap is just smack dab in the middle of the day. We decided to just put him down an hour early and he fell right to sleep, easy peasy. Woke him up at 1 and flew out the door. We made it to our seats just in time for the game. And wouldn’t you know it, we made it through the entire game!!!! I guess the solution to keeping your toddler still for three hours is to just feed him the whole time 😂 Afterward, we walked back to the car by way of Union Station and had to stop and play in the fountain. Demps loved it!

Saturday started with lemon ricotta waffles. Our waffle maker is officially broken 😢 so it maybe oozed batter every time, but sure tasted good! A bit later, Lori came over to hang with Demps and Joey and I headed out for a celebration of life. It could not have been nicer weather and we were glad to be there.

Afterward, much chilling ensued. The first picture is Joey and Dempsey watching Turning Red — can’t say I was fully paying attention the whole time but what I did see, I liked and man did I laugh over all the fantasy scenes of men as mermaids 😂😂 I’d been a Townie for sure! — and the second picture is the one I sent to lure my sister over to have dinner with us. It worked!

After years of take out, Joey is OVER IT! Which means we actually went out to Fire on the Mountain and I’m glad we did because the wait wasn’t too long and fresh hot food IS pretty good. Demps was so well-behaved the whole time! He’d rather I gave him a whole wing than pick off the meat for him, but I think he’s mostly into blue cheese 😂 I love spending time with my sis so much so it was so so nice to see her!

After dinner and Dempsey bedtime, we looked through our favorites and After Yang won because it was only 96 minutes long. I felt like I had a lot of questions at the end, but now that I’ve had a few days to think about it, I really liked the movie. It’s slow but in a deliberate and thoughtful way. Like it’s not rushing to show you a bunch of stuff, but instead, taking its time to show you the things that are important. Give it a try, if you have 96 minutes to spare!

We hadn’t been to Onefold in so long, so we knew we wanted to go this weekend. We dined in again! Does Dempsey need his own $15 meal? Probably not, but we always just figure the leftovers will be another meal for one of us later in the week. He tried his best to pick up those quesadilla slices but they were HEFTY, so he ended up just opening it up and eating the inside. Smart! We debated a spontaneous trip to the Denver Aquarium but then remembered the 10 loads of laundry we had to do and headed back home.

I left the boys at home for a quick trip to the mall and when I got back, Demps was napping and Joey was working, so I ate lunch, read and made our lunch salads for the week. When little man was back up, we made some banana muffins together, which was mostly me trying to stop him from eating the batter 😂 I had my yoga mat out later and Dempsey kept pushing me off of it so he could run back and forth on it! Oh and at some point, he needed to wear Dad’s shoes. This child! So funny. We had leftovers for dinner and Dempsey got a bath and hey, we actually went to bed early. What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Things

It’s April, can you believe it?! We are diving right into a busy month, starting with Joey’s birthday yesterday, Rockies Opening Day this Friday, TWO trips to Vegas, with Easter sandwiched in between, and my sis’s 30th birthday. Whew! This weekend was a good one that involved lots of birthday celebrating and some down time for just the three of us too. Let me show you 😊

Dempsey got to take a field trip to the family fish store on Friday. They opened up early, just for him ❤ Also, I snapped a picture of our tulips on our way out the door to pick Demps back up at the end of the day. I’m so happy they came up! You just never know, you know? Later, we walked over to Ginger Pig with Steve and Lorna and maybe ordered three giant Korean corndogs. Dempsey’s first time eating a hot dog and he was a BIG FAN! It was a fun dinner and I’m so happy to have this good restaurant so close to us. Can’t wait to start our weekly walks there in the summer again 😋

Woke up with a latte craving on Saturday, so Dempsey and Joey went out to grab me one and look who came back with a vanilla steamer that he straight chugged 😂 I made us whole wheat buttermilk pancakes and Dempsey helped by sprinkling on the chocolate chips! He had a fried egg instead of his usual scramble and he liked it that way too.

Mid-morning adventure to the library to get some books and more importantly, to get Dempsey his very own library card!!! 🥰🥰🥰 It’s just a little library but they actually have a very good selection of children’s books. I’m hoping to make this a weekly trip! He picked out three books — Burger Boy, Hats Off to Mr. Pockles and Triceratops Stomp — and played a game of peekaboo with a boy and his mom, who definitely didn’t know they were playing a game of peekaboo 😂 While Dempsey was down for his nap, Joey participated in a very serious fantasy baseball draft and I had some alone time, reading outside and taking a trip to Target.

We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening hanging outside — Dempsey was very into blowing bubbles! — and it felt so nice!!! Then we ate dinner, Demps got a bath and went to bed and Joey and I fired up Cabaret, which neither of us had ever seen. It is definitely strange and unique but Liza is an undeniable star! I only found out she was Judy Garland’s daughter a few years ago (HOW DID I NOT KNOW??) but once you know, you can’t un-see it in her every move!

Happy Birthday, Joey!!! Dempsey “helped” me wrap presents the day before and was very into Dad’s new golf club! We keep having to hid it from him 😂 We had breakfast with my mom and dad (my sis and Wayne sadly had to bail because my sis is sick 😢) and Dempsey was very into his breakfast sausage! We hung out at my parents’ for a bit afterward and tried to get Dempsey to use a magnifying glass. I had a 10:30 haircut, so Demps and Joey headed home and I headed out. Joey sent me that box picture and said Dempsey did NOT like it. Can’t imagine why! 🤣

Back to Los Arcos for the first time in two years!!!! It was Dempsey’s first time there! Felt really nice 😊 He sat on Great Grandpa’s lap, clearly said “Grandma” for the first time 😍😍😍 and devoured a cheese enchilada. We had them sing “Happy Birthday” to Joey and Dempsey seemed very confused 😂 He was NOT into wearing the sombrero but he WAS into eating Dad’s ice cream sundae. Back at home, we watching fifteen minutes of the Grammys, then put Dempsey to bed and watched the rest. I actually thought it was a very good show! And it made the Oscars seem like even more of a mess than they already did, if that’s even possible. The performances were good, the speeches were nice and the In Memoriam segment was very classy. Take note, Academy! I’m sad BTS didn’t win but their performance had my jaw on the floor. I saw a picture of Lady Gaga and Kim Taehyung later on and I honestly still haven’t recovered. Oh and Dempsey and I have been listing to Jon Batiste all morning!

Hope you had a good weekend!
