Weekend Things

The number of times I come to this space to write up a “Weekend Things” post, only to discover the last thing I wrote was the weekend recap from the week before seems to have increased lately.  Oops!  Let this serve as a gentle reminder to myself to get back to writing up quick mid-week posts about how I saw Lady Bird two weeks ago or that I finished a book that I hated.  Those little life things deserve their own post sometimes 🙂

Friday night, we headed home, cooked dinner (this vegan alfredo is so good and it’s easily one of my favorite things we make regularly) and then…. you guessed it, went to a movie!  It’s that time of year and Joey and I are truly on our movie seeing game.  This time it was Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri which is a mouthful but it’s also very good.  Parts are funny and parts are heavy and and you never know which is coming.  I kept feeling caught off guard but in a good way.  I just really enjoyed this movie!

Saturday started with breakfast at my favorite place, aka Stowaway.  We shared a bourbon banana cake while sipping our coffee and I don’t think I’ve ever felt happier.  Afterwards, we checked out the brand new Union Station Whole Foods and not to be dramatic, but this feels life changing.  Ample parking, a spacious layout and all the specialty items your heart could desire.  I’m not about to do my weekly shopping there but I frequently find myself needing to take a trip there for something I can’t find at my regular grocery store and having this new store within 5 minutes of home is going to be SO NICE.  Also, I forgot my phone at home so I couldn’t geek out taking Instagram videos of the store, which is probably for the better…

Post-WF mania, we picked up beer supplies to brew over Thanksgiving weekend then headed home because I had a noon-time manicure scheduled.  The color is called “Edith” and I’m telling myself it’s as in Piaff.  We spent the night at a wedding reception for some friends but not before grabbing a beer at Diebolt.  We decided we need to be bigger supporters of our neighborhood brewery by drinking a beer there more often.

And then there was Sunday, the day I only took food photos 🙂  To be fair, I also went on a run, finished a book and watched a few episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (all the way caught up!), but I just didn’t take pictures of those things.  While Joey was out watching football, I made a pie dough for a caramel apple pie I’m making later this week and even though it doesn’t look “perfect,” I did my best while telling myself “pie dough can smell your fear.”  We had a mishmash of ingredients in the fridge and only three days of work to get through, so I just threw together some salads for us.

Highlight of the day was dinner, for sure!  The Cowboys were playing that night and to me, this reads: WING NIGHT!  I made this jalapeño popper bean dip (with mini bell peppers) and baked chicken wings with ginger-soy glaze and then Joey made us a buttermilk ranch dressing and it all turned out SO GOOD.  I was absolutely delighted by all of it and would definitely use all the recipes again.  I guess the Cowboys lost?  I was obviously distracted.

And now here we are, three days out from Thanksgiving and I am literally unable to think or speak of anything else.  Happy Monday!

Weekend Things

This weekend was really really good.  The sun was out and it was just warm enough to sit outside for Friday dinner with Hannah and Josh, do a little bit of garden work and enjoy a park brunch.  It felt productive but relaxed, which means I cleaned out my closet and got lunches made for the week but I also got a Saturday afternoon manicure and took myself to yoga.  I want to relive it all again right now ♥

I spent all of last fall trying to find the best Pumpkin Spice Latte in Denver and decided it was at Cherry Bean, so on Friday, Joey was adamant about driving over to get me one.  I’m so undeserving of this affection, but who am I to argue against a Friday morning latte present? 🙂

After work, we headed to Erie for dinner with Hannah and Josh.  We got to see the beginnings of Project Nursery (Side Note: Hannah texted me a picture of the finished product on Sunday and I can’t keep looking at it.  SO CUTE!) before heading out to dinner at Community.  News Flash: That place is still REALLY REALLY good!  We also walked over to a little chocolate/gelato shop where I tried to convince Hannah she needed a chocolate baby carriage and then we listened to instrumental versions of popular songs while we enjoyed our dessert.

Saturday was just perfect.  We woke up and headed over to the 16th Street Mall because: FREE BREAKFAST BURRITOS AT ILLEGAL PETE’S!!!  Sorry, we were just sort of excited.  We did wait in line for half an hour but so worth it because, turns out, walking around the Farmers’ Market is 100x more fun if you’re also eating a breakfast burrito.  Afterwards, we grabbed coffee from Pig Train and headed inside to do a little work.  Serious Question: Why have we never thought to hang out at one of the many tables inside Union Station??  I need to do that more often.  Plus, it was extra cute in there with all the fall/Halloween decor!

Back at home, I unpacked our adorably small pears from the Farmers’ Market and then we harvested all the butternut squash from our garden and I am so genuinely excited to use them up this season!  Joey also cleared out everything but our strawberries and parsley and then… WE WENT TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH… IN OUR OWN BACKYARD!  Clearly, we were very excited about this.  We’ve got those little pumpkins sitting out on the front porch for decoration until we carve them for Halloween and I love seeing them every time I leave or come home!

I got myself a manicure later on and even though it was sort of chilly and windy on my walk there and back, it’s early enough in the season that that briskness kind of feels good!  Joey ditched me to go gamble in Black Hawk that night but it was actually fine by me because I got to finish The Night Of.  I sort of thought the series was just okay.  I didn’t hate it but I definitely didn’t love it either.  What should I watch next??

Sunday started with brunch for Roman’s 1st birthday — actually, it started with me texting Joey three coffee emojis from bed, but anyway… — and it sure was a beautiful fall morning to be out in the sun!  Roman really politely ate that cake and it was just the cutest.  Also, the park we were at was SO NICE.  I kept thinking “where was this type of park when I was a kid?!”

We headed home afterwards to separately do some Sunday chores — made those Buffalo Cauliflower Salads with Creamy Cashew Ranch Dressing and am seriously excited to eat them this week! — and then I went to yoga for the first time in a long time and it felt so nice.  For dinner, we made Burger Steaks with Mushroom Gravy and it all felt so fall comfort food-y in a way that made me really really happy.

We’ve got a whole week of upper 70-degree weather to enjoy and I’m not mad about it.  Happy Monday!
