Weekend Things

Oh my god, the return of the Weekend Things post!  Because real life exciting things actually happened this weekend, not just me laying on the couch because we have nothing to do 😛

My sister graduated from nursing school!!!!  I’m so proud of her ♥  It went by so quickly… for me, a person who didn’t have to do any of the hard work she did 🙂  Her pinning ceremony was cancelled and rescheduled as a Zoom call.  It was my first one and I found it highly entertaining.  The best was when someone didn’t have their microphone muted, so any time they made noise, the camera would jump to them!  Andi was less invested, apparently.

Saturday morning, we had to make ourselves scarce for a few hours because we are renting out our house once we move and we had a whole bunch of showings.  Only slightly freaked me out to think of strangers walking around my home, but masks were required and they weren’t allowed to touch anything.  First, we headed to the Wooden Spoon for breakfast sandwiches!  I forgot my mask, so Joey went up to place our order and I attempted to walk Andi in the neighborhood but he acted like separating from Joey was a death sentence and threw a huge barking fit the entire time, probably waking up every living soul in the vicinity….  After we ate our sandwiches, we took a stroll through our new neighborhood (we even discovered a little cottage bakery!) and I can’t wait to live in it!  We did some packing and grocery pick up during the day, then made this delicious dinner and watched Blow the Man Down, which we both really enjoyed.

Sunday, I woke up to pancakes (joy of all joys!) and we did a bit more packing but also stopped to 1. take a walk, 2. do some yoga and 3. watch episodes 7 & 8 of The Last Dance (yes, even I am watching).  Around 5, my mom, dad, sister and Wayne came over and look, please don’t judge me.  I don’t know what the rules are any more and it is shockingly easy to talk yourself into seeing your family.  We sat outside, at separate tables and each had our own box of take out food from La Loma.  We did a margarita cheers to my sister because graduating nursing school is a big deal and we couldn’t leave it at a Zoom call only!  My mom made a batch of virgin margs for me that had pickle juice in it, which must be why it tasted so good 🙂  I even let my mom and sis touch my bump (masks on!), but this bathroom selfie I snapped shows the bump a bit more clearly.

After everyone left, we watched the last two episodes of The Last Dance.  That part about Steve Kerr and his father though 😦  I have now gone from a person who’s only Michael Jordan knowledge came from Space Jam, to liking tweets about “the poison pizza.”  This is who I am now.  I hope you all had a good weekend 🙂

Weekend Things

The last weekend of March, wow!  Baseball is back and crazy spring weather is here!  Let this be a reminder to myself that I may not feel in total control during this busier less predictable season and that it will all be okay.

Our schedule is about to ramp up, so I was thankful for a cool and cloudy Friday that made it feel 100% right to lay low at home with leftovers, pajamas and a movie.  Got to watch the Rockies win beforehand ♥  Joey has been making the argument that ALL you need to have seen to understand Avengers: Endgame are the previous Avengers films and I do NOT agree, but I’ll indulge him for now.  This is all to say we started The Avengers on Friday night.  Why are all these movies so long though??

Joey got up to go skiing one last time on Saturday, so I cuddled a dog then made Whole Grain Peanut Butter Pumpkin Pancakes that were so thick and fluffy and delicious.  Truly!  I also made some pizza dough for later this week, then went to the grocery and spent $25 on crabmeat (scream face emoji).

Most importantly though, we celebrated Joey’s birthday at Bar Dough!  We’ve been wanting to go for, uh… three years… We just hadn’t gotten around to it.  We finally remembered it when brainstorming where to go and now we’re kicking ourselves because it was SO GOOD.  Yelp had mixed reviews, but we had zero complaints!  Service was so professional, drinks were delicious and the food was KILLER.  We got “Fancy Toast” (how could we not?), culurgiones (basically a potato-ricotta noodle dumpling!) and were thisclose to ordering another pasta dish when I suggested the saltimbocca chop and what a good last minute change it was.  They gifted us dessert and I LOVED IT SO MUCH.  We are coming back!!!

Sunday morning puppy cuddles are my favorite!  It is a genuine joy when I open my eyes and see him leaping over Joey to me ♥♥♥  There’s been a sort of changing of the guard over at The Source and we were momentarily terrified when Babette’s and Boxcar Coffee Roasters both left, but comparable new businesses have moved in, so all is good.  I just really love an almond croissant, so I guess I’m truly my mother’s daughter.  We checked out our schedule for April and it’s packed and I’m scared.  But also really excited!

Back at home, we tag-teamed salads for the week and I made some snack bars for us, while Joey did laundry and does whatever he does outside all the time 😛  I also spent a good chunk of Sunday (and some time on Saturday too) reading and god, it felt good!  I am a BAD weekend reader and I’d like to change that.  I took myself to yoga later on and then we made Mediterranean Eggplant and Halloumi Bowls with Lemon-Dill Sauce for dinner, while watching Avengers: Age of Ultron and I’m starting to think I only live for Tony Stark’s arrogant humor and Stan Lee cameos.

It’s a week of celebration around these parts, with Joey’s birthday on Wednesday and Rockies Home Opener on Friday, so let the madness and excitement begin!
