Weekend Things

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Maybe slightly less wonderful this year, since we can’t get together with our families for Christmas, but wow is it extra snuggly this December with a little baby 🙂 Dempsey went through a small fussy phase this week, where he decided it was fun to cry like I was trying to murder him when I tried to feed him but thankfully it only lasted a couple of days and now he is back to his easy-going self. Guys, he is up to 9 pounds! And he is smiling and cooing!!!! I can’t even tell you how amazing it is to see him smiling up at us. MY HEART. And knock on wood, but he is still a really good sleeper. He wakes up once between midnight and 2 AM (depending on when we put him down to sleep), then once again around 5 AM. I honestly don’t even mind waking up to feed him. Sometimes I even hold him for an extra 10 minutes afterward. He’s just so sweet!

Grandma Lori came to visit her grandson on Friday and it was so nice because we hadn’t seen her in too long! Afterward, it was take out, Christmas Vacation and decorating the tree. Our office had a Zoom meeting to go over insurance updates last Thursday and one of our employees asked if everyone could see her and when we said no, her response was “good because I’m eating a hamburger right now” ha ha! We’d been craving burgers ever since, so Park Burger was an easy choice. In an effort to support local business, we picked up a tree at Little Man last week and it’s a beauty! Joey put the lights on and then I decorated it by myself because someone was getting overtired and needed to be held on the couch 🙂

Up and at em early on Saturday morning for our annual KBCO Studio C tradition. Except we couldn’t all go get breakfast and wait in line together. We knew Dempsey would be up early, so we volunteered to pick up CDs for my mom. The line took place in your car this year, but when we got there around 7:30 (after grabbing coffee and breakfast burritos at The Bardo Coffee House), there was no line! Joey went in for the CDs and a giant poinsettia (our bathroom is feeling very Christmas-y now!) and we snapped a family photo with Demps at what will be his new December tradition (at least for as long as I make his decisions for him :P).

I had my six week postpartum appointment last Monday and I am all cleared for activity again! I was so mentally prepared for PP recovery to be long and painful and… it wasn’t. I really really lucked out and I know it! I’ve felt fine for a while now but needed the actual okay from the doctor before I tried running again. I hadn’t done it in six months!!! I think I went just under a mile and though I had planned to run/walk, I was able to really slowly jog the whole way! It’s supposed to be nice all week, so I’m hoping to sneak in another try. Felt good to be out of breath from exercising and not from walking up the stairs 😛

Just some holiday decorations 🙂 Lori made that advent calendar for Dempsey and I love it so much!!! Joey was referring to it as “20 more sleeps till Christmas” because he “saw a mom on Instagram say that!” He’s gone full dad mode, guys and I can’t lie, I love it. He also got our house lights up and they look so pretty!

Well, I guess I’ve seen Citizen Kane now. I want to watch Mank this week but I felt I should see the movie it’s about first. I know Citizen Kane is #1 on the AFI best film list but I maybe had to Google “what’s so good about Citizen Kane” after we watched it. I like to think of myself as a film buff in progress but I guess I’m not quite there because it wasn’t super obvious to me why this movie is so highly regarded. After waking up early, we barely made it to 9 PM! There was a baby in the bed afterward! 🙂

Sunday scenes, including sweet potato chocolate chip pancakes, too much coffee, baby smiles for Dad, bath and naps for two sleepy boys and a visit from my parents later on. I thought Dempsey might be awake and give them some smiles, but he pretty much fell asleep shortly after they got there and slept the rest of the time, ha! I don’t think they minded though. He did look like a little angel 🙂 We made salads for dinner and watched a few episodes of Breaking Bad to end the night, but what a good weekend it was!

Weekend Things: December Nights

Friday night at the Sie watching Christmas Vacation with an audience full of ugly sweaters and adult eggnog.  Saturday night at the Ogden watching Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats from the second row.  Sunday night at the Buell watching Buddy the Elf sing and dance.  This time of year is busy but in the best way possible ♥

The Sie is running a holiday movie series and even though I sort of wanted to see A Muppet Christmas Carol, Christmas Vacation seemed more age appropriate so Friday night, we took ourselves out to a 9:30 PM showing like a couple of young fun people.  I love that part when Beverly D’Angelo says “what can I say except, it’s Christmas and we’re all in misery.”  Ha!

Saturday, we took ourselves to dinner at Dos Santos, where Joey ate his “favorite salsa EVER,” I ate a carrot taco (I would!) and we took a shot with out waitress before walking over to the Ogden.  Doors opened at 8 but when we got there at 8:40 we were able to walk right to the front, meaning we were mere feet from the action!  I’ve never been so close.  This show was so incredibly fun and this band is a pure delight to watch.  If you ever have the chance to see them live, GO!

Sunday night was set around our annual holiday show, starting with dinner at Euclid Hall and ending with Elf the Musical.  I think everyone (myself included!) dug Euclid and now that I’ve eaten their cheese curds, I can die happy.  It was the last performance for Elf so it was a full house, with lots of people dressed in elf costumes or beard ornaments or Cowboys ugly sweaters.  I guess that last one was just Joey 🙂

Besides these three incredible nights, this weekend involved hot yoga, rounding out our Christmas shopping, baking eggnog banana bread mini loaves and me visiting the baby AGAIN.  I can’t stop!  But in all fairness, I just wanted to bring my mom and sister over to meet him plus holding a baby makes all life’s worries disappear.

How was your weekend?!
