Odds & Ends, Take 2

Sometimes life starts moving at a breakneck speed and I end up glossing over things that probably would’ve made good posts, had I taken the time to really photograph or write about them in detail.  C’est la vie, right?  By now, I’m not sure they warrant their own post anymore, but combined they make for some interesting odds and ends.

Stitch Fix Fail

Fact: I hate shopping.  Really.  So I thought having a “stylist” pick out clothes and ship them to me without me having to step foot into a store sounded great.  What didn’t sound great was the price of all the things said stylist sent.  Also he/she really missed the mark by sending a sleeveless cowl shirt.  NO THANK YOU.  I ended up wearing this statement necklace (I liked it, but it was way too expensive, so I thought I might as well get some use out of it!) then sending everything back.  Live and learn.

Bolder Boulder Bound

I picked up my packet, tech tee, and a new pair of lime green Brooks on Monday night so I guess I’m officially running that 10K next month.  Every year, I say “I haven’t run a 10K since the BB last year!” and this year is no exception.  This might be a bad mindset to have, but I’m already okay with taking multiple walking breaks.  There’s no point in putting a bunch of pressure on myself at a race that’s just supposed to be for fun.

Cruisin for a Bruisin

Check this one out!  I wish I had a better story, but all that really happened is that I set our TV down on my arm while trying to move it last week, then slide my arm out from underneath that heavy thing and ended up with this weird bruise.  For a few days, it hurt so bad that I couldn’t even hang my arm at my side without wincing.  But I guess things could be worse.  I could have a bruise like the one Hannah got from falling in the shower…

Friday Night Lights

On my own, I’m not that into TV.  As in, anything I watch, I watch with and probably because of Joey, but I needed something to kill some time while he’s out bowling one night a week so I picked up Prison Break and look, I tried (at least 5 episodes) but… so terrible.  Last week I switched over to FNL and am hoping I can get more into that one.  Joey swears that it doesn’t matter if I like football or not but I’m still skeptical.

Birthday Celebrations!

J’adore!  My sister turned 22 on Monday and we celebrated at Machete with tacos and tequila!  After chips, salsa, guac, a platter of tacos (yum!) and a shot of pineapple-infused tequila for my sister, we all headed over to our house for dessert.  Aka the 5 leftover red velvets from Easter Sunday.  We didn’t have any birthday candles so I used a tea lite, obviously.  Totally normal.  Then I let Joey play 30 seconds of Taylor Swift’s “22” before my ears felt like they were bleeding.

I love this little so much 🙂

On Wednesday, we celebrated a joint birthday with Joey’s family for his aunt Cathy and cousin Chelsea, who turned 21 that day!  I was tempted to warn her that the thrill of being able to drink legally wears off in a couple years so to enjoy it while it lasts but I think that might just be a special case for boring people, aka me.  More margaritas for all!  We all had dinner at La Loma and with that I think I should probably cut myself off from margs and Mexican food for at least a week.

I think this face means “please stop taking pictures of me.”

And last but not least…

Health (Drink) Kick

I’m hooked on a new drink and it’s going to make me sound so disgustingly trendy.  Apple Cider Vinegar.  I know.  So trendy.  Anyways, for the past week or so I’ve been sipping a mix of ACV, water and honey mid-afternoon.  I’m pretty sure I’m not receiving any amazing health benefits but even so, I kind of like the taste.  Actually, I really like the taste.  Plus it feels like a little 3 PM treat to get me through the end of the work day and doesn’t cost $3 a bottle like a certain kombucha I know.  I’ll let you know if my hair starts looking like Jennifer Aniston’s or I’m suddenly able to run at superhuman speeds.

Happy Friday!

Weekend Things

Whew!  Do you ever have a weekend where you end up feeling more tired than rested?  Because I just had one.  And I’m kind of excited that it’s Monday and I have to be sitting at my work desk.  Emphasis on sitting.  We did so much house work this weekend.  But first!  A fun Friday.

P.S. This is a food-heavy post.  You’ve been forewarned.

Guys, I got contacts on Friday morning!  I’ve had glasses with a minor prescription since college but I rarely wear them because I hate seeing the frames in my periph so I’ve just been squinting at the TV guide and missing turns because I can’t read the street sign until I’m passing it.  I finally got contacts and life is easier now.  I took my fully functioning eyes to a concert on Friday night to celebrate.  Or because I was already planning to go to that concert.

To say I’ve been excited to see The Head and the Heart in concert would be a huge understatement.  I adore this band and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the day I got to see them live.  I’d like to pretend we got there early because we were that excited, but it was like 10% excitement and 90% wanting to get one of the few seats so I wouldn’t have to stand for 3 hours.  And that’s what we call adulthood.

Anyways, they were every bit as good as I thought they would be.  No, wait, even better!  Call me a uninformed fan, but I had no idea they had two male singers.  Totally thought it was just one voice on their albums.  Oops!  I’m so glad we got to see them.  My heart was soaring when I got to hear “Shake” and “Rivers and Roads” in person.  Chills just thinking about it 🙂  Also, some guy got on stage and proposed to his girlfriend, didn’t invite her on stage, then proceeded to celebrate and hug all the band members while she just stood there in the crowd.  Dude, come on.

Saturday involved lots of house work — we picked paint, got to work on the kitchen and the living room and hooked up our new range! — and take out.  We tried this pizza place down the street for the first time and despite not having stellar reviews, we actually thought it was really good.  I’m a fan of anywhere that offers a bunch of veggie-licious whole wheat dough options so this was a win for me.  Then the annual viewing of my favoritest Christmas movie.  You think I would be sick of it but no.  Not even in the slightest.

Sunday started with this bad decision.

IMG_0327

Dear body, please have a more consistent reaction to caffeine.  Love, Lauren.

This was my attempt at having a super productive day and don’t get me wrong it was super productive.  It was also super jittery and anxious.  I will never learn.  After I had more than adequately caffeinated myself, we tackled more painting, a trip to Ikea, a trip to the grocery store, cooking in our so-close-to-being-back-in-one-piece kitchen, un-packing boxes of kitchen stuff and a shower where I’m fairly sure I forgot to rinse the conditioner out of my hair… Oh, and our Christmas lights are finally up.  Yay!

IMG_0350

Then my parents came over to see all the progress at the house and to take us to dinner for their anniversary.  If that sounds backwards to you, then that makes two of us.  I tried to encourage them to enjoy a night out on their own but my mom insisted and I’m not one to turn down dinner.  Plus I suggested they make reservations at a restaurant we had tried to go to on Wednesday night, only to find there was an hour and a half wait.  If that kind of traffic on a week night isn’t a sign of a good restaurant, I don’t know what is.

I think the popularity might have something to do with these little margaritas.

Turns out it makes more sense to order the large margarita and share it, rather than all order a small or medium for ourselves.  Joey tried to convince both my sister and I to order a large and both share with him.  Yeah, nice try.  Mass consumption of chips, guac, enchiladas, rellenos, burritos and sopapillas ensued.  And by the end of dinner, a majority of the table felt sickeningly full.  Who ordered those sopapillas?!  Oh, right…
