Weekend Things

Hello from a new month, but the same old winter weather, UGH!  We got more snow last night and I am just done.  No more, please!  The good news is we are getting some glimpses of spring, like a sun-filled living room when we got home from work on Friday, Saturday afternoon’s jacketless walk and Joey and I both opting for iced coffee drinks on Sunday, though that last one might have been because we just can’t wait any longer.

Friday night, we saw The Invisible Man and even though I was really excited to see it and I’ve only heard good things about it, I don’t know, I didn’t love it.  I’m really uncomfortable with depictions of abusive relationships that serve as mere plot device and aren’t really meant to open up any meaningful dialogue about that incredibly serious, real life matter.  Plus I also had all these plot-related questions afterward and Joey told me “those things don’t matter in these kinds of movies,” but I demand more, okay!  During all the scenes when Elisabeth Moss was fighting an invisible man, I just kept thinking about how when they filmed it, she was just flailing around on the ground by herself and it was really funny to me.  I will say it got pretty good halfway through, but still.

Saturday started with bagels, a couple of open houses and a really long walk for the pup and ourselves.  It felt soooo nice out.  Then we took ourselves to a 3 PM showing of Birds of Prey, which we both really liked!  I loved when Harley was shooting that glitter gun, plus it was girl power but not in a nauseating way.

Afterward, we went to dinner at Dio Mio, where we proceeded to wait 45 MINUTES for our food to come out.  I’m sorry, but it’s an order-at-the-counter type of place, so this is unacceptable.  Back at home, we watched A Quiet Place (we’re ready to see Part 2 in the theater!) and though Joey didn’t seem blown away, I actually quite liked it!  We made it through half of SNL and I don’t really know what phase Jake Gyllenhaal is going through right now, but I like it??

We all had a sleepy Sunday and cuddled up on the couch (to finish SNL) but then Joey got up to work on our salads for the week and I ran to the pet food store and the human food store before we met up for couch lunch + a few episodes of Silicon Valley.  We snuck in another walk for our pup before the snow came and I did some at-home yoga while Joey watched the Buffs game and then we made a summer-style dinner.  I cannot with any more comfort foods, I must eat fresh crisp things or I won’t make it through March.  Loaded Summer Chili Fries to the rescue!  Those cherry tomatoes were NOT ripe, but I didn’t care because this all still tasted amazing.

Also, The French Connection is coming, friends and there are only four Wes Anderson films I haven’t seen, so we must knock them out before July (which is totally doable!), starting with his first, Bottle Rocket.  I liked it!  All three Wilson brothers in one movie, you love to see it!  You could see glimpses of that quintessential Wes Anderson style but it’s much less refined.

In sadder news, our little pup seems to be injured 😦  I guess he was acting a bit weird last night and this morning, we found him underneath our bed and when we finally got him out, he wouldn’t let us pick him up and he wouldn’t walk either.  Poor guy!  I hope he’s just sore from that long walk and it’s nothing serious, but we’re taking him to the vet this evening, just in case.  Isn’t seeing your pet in pain so sad?!  I hope you have a good Monday!
