Mother’s Day Weekend Things

Sometimes Mother Nature is like “Hey, looks like you’ve overextended yourself this weekend.  How bout I make it pour rain and snow and clear some of those Rockies game out of your schedule?”  She’s cool like that.

So instead of going to Friday night’s Rockies game (which they actually did play some of but I was not about to sit in the rain to watch), we hit the grocery store and seeing as it’s Friday Pizza Night at Whole Foods, we picked ourselves up a pie for dinner.

Are black olives not the best pizza topping ever?  Took me right back to my childhood.

Since we were hosting Mother’s Day Brunch, the first half of Saturday was all about prepping food and cleaning the house.  Seriously though, entertaining is the best way to ensure that you regularly clean your house.  After all most of the prep was done, we took ourselves up the street to Denver Beer Co.

For a Colorado crawfish boil, naturally.  DBC flew fresh crawfish in from LA for the occasion and $35 dollars got you two beers + all the crawfish and fixings you wanted.  Favorite moments were Joey squirting the very uptight-looking girl sitting next to him with claw juice and the guy next to me who was trying to peel his crawfish with a napkin then just ended up eating five pieces of corn instead.  Some people just aren’t made for messy eating 🙂

Remember how it SNOWED last Mother’s Day?  Yeah, it snowed again this year.  I should probably stop thinking it will be nice enough outside for us to have people over and be able to sit outside.  How is it two weeks from Memorial Day — the day I usually consider the unofficial kick off to summer — and we still have snow?

Anyway, that menu!

Not even gonna pretend to be upset about having taco extras for lunch leftovers this week.  We had a slight, okay TWO slight, mishaps with our coffee maker (apparently, it’s not up to the task of making an entire pot of coffee) but eventually, Joey and Lori got things working right and of course, MOMosas 🙂

My sister was working that morning so we had to give our mom separate Mother’s Day celebrations 😦  I got my mom a bar spoon, you know so she can make “a pitcher of martinis!”  I sure hope she’s sharing that pitcher!  That picture happens to be right after she tried to hang the spoon from my nose.  I told Joey this was a good looking picture and his response was that he always looks good, so no surprise.  So humble, that one.

We spent the second half of the day at Joey’s aunt and uncle’s.  There was homemade German Chocolate Cake and that’s all you need to know.  P.S. Penultimate episode of Mad Men… noooooo!

In other news, THE SUN IS BACK.  It’s supposed to warm up this week and I feel so good about that!

This Week

On Monday

It started raining (and just never stopped!).

I started a new book.  Whistling Past the Graveyard, if you’re interested.

I made us a salad for dinner.  This salad to be precise.  It wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.  So. Damn. Good. (Ew, please ignore that gross plastic fork…)

On Tuesday

It was Cinco de Mayo!

We went out to dinner for Lori’s Birthday.  I ate a raw oyster and I don’t feel like I ever need to do that again.

We announced that we’re taking her to Hawaii in January.  She cried, then I cried because I’m a sympathy crier like whoa.

Ice cream followed, naturally.

On Wednesday

I wore my rain boots on our coffee walk.  It wasn’t really wet enough for them but hey, when you own rain boots, you look for any excuse to wear them.

I made mini pancakes while Joey cooked us dinner.  Because I’m weird and needed a test run with the recipe I plan on using for Mother’s Day Brunch.  Joey doesn’t seem to mind having a fridge stocked with pancake minis.

The Rockies played a true double header.  And lost.  Twice.  Please, no more!

On Thursday

I picked up two boxes of cupcakes for an office birthday and wondered “if neither I nor the cupcakes returned to work, would anyone notice?”

I watched Joey bowl for the last time this year.  The league’s over and that means I can’t tease Joey about never bowling a 300 again because he’s used up his lifetime supply already.  Till next year 🙂

I read 4 pages of my new book before realizing, A) This is boring and B) I’m so tired!

On Friday

I woke up to find a break in the rain so I grabbed myself an outdoor morning run.  Those make me happy.

Was fifteen minutes late to work.  But I brought cupcakes so…

I predict the Rockies game will get rained out and I’ll be totally cool with it because that just means I get to put my pajamas on right after work, sink into the couch and watch a movie.  Maybe I’ll make a pizza dough.  Maybe I’ll realize pizza dough takes too long and order take out instead.

Happy Weekend to you all!
