What I’m Loving Lately: Winter Edition

Continuing on with the “wow, there actually are things to love about winter!” theme, I thought I’d share some of my favorite things this season.  And instead of boring you with some long drawn-out intro that I can’t come up with right now, I think I’ll just jump right into it.  **Honesty is the best policy.**

Kettle Corn

I occasionally buy this brand of kettle corn — it has an awesomely short and simple ingredient list — and I love it!  For something that isn’t chock full of weird chemicals, it tastes decadently good.  My mom bought me some of these cute old-timey stripped popcorn boxes and I love filling them up with kettle corn and chowing down in front of a movie on the couch.

See by Chloe

Okay, I’m kind of mortified that I’ve been calling this “Seeby Chloe” until I just looked it up online.  And now you know that I don’t actually know anything about designer brands.  But I do know that I can’t get enough of this scent!  Past favorite have been Blue by Ralph Loren, Very Irresistable by Givenchy, Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Miss Dior.

Café au Laits

In the past, I have mostly drunk lattes or Americanos but I recently started ordering a café au lait during our weekly stop at the local coffee shop and it seems to be just the right amount of caffeine.  My body apparently does not like espresso because I feel seriously crazy when I drink it.  Coffee is much easier on my system.

Flixster

Joey’s brother recently turned him onto this app and now Joey’s got me converted too.  For two people that are constantly looking up movie reviews (Flixster gives you a critic rating and a user rating) and theater times, this app is the best.  And so much more user-friendly than the movie tickets app we’d been using before.

Green Smoothies

IMG_4904

Okay so I’ve been a pretty regular green smoothie drinker since discovering them in 2010.  Some times I drink them more than others, but I’ve been on a green smoothie kick lately and have been drinking them about every other morning — alongside a stack of pancakes or an apple/peanut butter, obv — and it never fails to make me feel like a healthy and put together person first thing in the morning.  That is, until I’m late for work or realize I forgot to pack an afternoon snack.

Sylvia Plath on Twitter

IMG_0664

If Sylvia (we’re on a first name basis) were alive today, I don’t think she’d be on Twitter but I’m grateful to whoever is running an account in her name.  Those quotes are like a bright light of honesty and wisdom in a sea of celebrity gossip.  I saw this one last week and it spoke to me in such a deep way.  LOVE.

This song.

I should start by saying I detest country music, but for some reason I don’t find this girls voice or lyrics to be annoying.  And if you’ll notice, this was on the John Mayer Guest DJ station, so by association, I am required to love it.  When I played it for Joey he thought it was stupid.  He just doesn’t get me like John does.

What are you loving this winter?

Lately

Listening to the Nsync IHeartRadio Station.

IMG_4588

Okay, I have a feeling I’m completely alone on this one, but that Nsync reunion performance?  Ehhhh.  I was a HUGE Nsync fan back in the day (I owned this and I think I watched it on a daily basis), but watching the VMA performance just depressed me.  Guys, Chris is 41!  And while JT’s dancing just gets better and better as the years go on, I cant not say the same for the other four.  Nsync oldies are still good, though.  And this is hilarious!

Worrying about my Venus Flytrap.

IMG_4582

Which I have named “Serena.”  Get it?  Anyways, the whole point of getting a Flytrap was to catch the annoying flies that always make their way into my office and now that I have one, I haven’t seen a single fly.  I don’t want her to starve!

Looking at pictures of Hannah’s wedding dress.

I’ve been sworn to secrecy, so I’ll just say it’s perfect and I’m so happy.  Oh and that the idea of being in charge of her bustle is kind of intimidating.

Swearing off caffeine.

I’ve never been a huge caffeine drinker but this year I started drinking Earl Gray every morning then switched to iced coffee this summer.  The past month or so, my body has been so sensitive to the caffeine and has been making me feel HORRIBLE.  I’ve “sworn off caffeine” at least 5 times this summer, but this time I’m serious!

Saying farewell.

IMG_4610

Our company is expanding and opening another location in Pueblo.  A few of our guys are moving down there, including Joey’s cousin Jory.  We’ve gone from seeing him every Thursday (for bowling) to him moving two hours away 😦  We took him to dinner at Interstate Kitchen & Bar for a farewell dinner.

Craving a Cobb salad & a root beer float.

IMG_4607

I have such mixed feelings about Interstate.  The restaurant was pretty deserted, there was one employee who looked like she was doing everything and she wasn’t doing it very well, but gah, the food!  After ordering dessert first (like a boss), I got a Cobb salad with bacon dressing and an over-easy egg on top.  Best. Cobb. Ever.  Plus the price was right and the portions were big.

Loving the new John Mayer CD.

“Wildfire” in particular.  I haven’t loved a JMay song this much since Vultures.  This is a big deal.

Wondering how it possibly got to be the end of August.

I don’t want the summer to end!  But it’s also been in the upper 90’s all week, so maybe Mother Nature isn’t ready for summer to end either!
