Weekend Things

This Weekend I…

Braved The Rooftop at the Rockies game.  It is a mess of young drunken people who don’t even know they’re at a baseball game and a DJ playing club music.  In other words, it’s godawful up there, but that’s also where they keep all the good beer.  We got in and got out as quickly as possible.

Drove home in the worst rain I’ve ever seen in my life.  We’re talking SHEETS of rain that made it hard to see the front end of your car, let alone anything on the road in front of you.  The walk from the car to our house had us both soaking wet.  And then we were greeted by our flooding basement, yay…

Dug up weeds, nailed landscape fabric into dirt and pushed rock around our yard on my hands and knees.  Yeah, that six ton rock delivery took up the majority of our weekend, but man did it transform our front yard!  Then Mother Nature was nice enough to send a few rainstorms to wash those rocks off for us.

Treated myself to a strawberry caprese salad for Saturday lunch.  Can we please exchange tomatoes for strawberries in all caprese salads from now on?  Strawberries > tomatoes, amiright?

Finished Top of the Lake and started Game of Thrones.  I thought Top of the Lake was really meh.  As much as I love Elisabeth Moss, I just really didn’t love the plot of this miniseries.  And I mostly just kept thinking “none of this makes any sense!!!”  GoT (is that how we abbreviate it?) seems interesting so far!  But what have we gotten ourselves into?

Brewed ice coffee!  I had my first glass today and I think I may have either messed up the ratios when I brewed it or messed up the ratios when I poured it this morning.  I’ll have to do some experimenting with that, I guess.

Walked to Sunday breakfast.  We met Bobby and Becca at our favorite neighborhood joint and fueled up for another day of “landscape duty” with sunshine, laughter, sweet iced chai and a cheesy bacon scramble.  Um, yes please!

What did you do, watch, eat, drink this weekend?

P.S. DJ “Lhieu” is my new favorite nickname for DJ LEMAHIEU.

Mother’s Day Weekend Things

Sometimes Mother Nature is like “Hey, looks like you’ve overextended yourself this weekend.  How bout I make it pour rain and snow and clear some of those Rockies game out of your schedule?”  She’s cool like that.

So instead of going to Friday night’s Rockies game (which they actually did play some of but I was not about to sit in the rain to watch), we hit the grocery store and seeing as it’s Friday Pizza Night at Whole Foods, we picked ourselves up a pie for dinner.

Are black olives not the best pizza topping ever?  Took me right back to my childhood.

Since we were hosting Mother’s Day Brunch, the first half of Saturday was all about prepping food and cleaning the house.  Seriously though, entertaining is the best way to ensure that you regularly clean your house.  After all most of the prep was done, we took ourselves up the street to Denver Beer Co.

For a Colorado crawfish boil, naturally.  DBC flew fresh crawfish in from LA for the occasion and $35 dollars got you two beers + all the crawfish and fixings you wanted.  Favorite moments were Joey squirting the very uptight-looking girl sitting next to him with claw juice and the guy next to me who was trying to peel his crawfish with a napkin then just ended up eating five pieces of corn instead.  Some people just aren’t made for messy eating 🙂

Remember how it SNOWED last Mother’s Day?  Yeah, it snowed again this year.  I should probably stop thinking it will be nice enough outside for us to have people over and be able to sit outside.  How is it two weeks from Memorial Day — the day I usually consider the unofficial kick off to summer — and we still have snow?

Anyway, that menu!

Not even gonna pretend to be upset about having taco extras for lunch leftovers this week.  We had a slight, okay TWO slight, mishaps with our coffee maker (apparently, it’s not up to the task of making an entire pot of coffee) but eventually, Joey and Lori got things working right and of course, MOMosas 🙂

My sister was working that morning so we had to give our mom separate Mother’s Day celebrations 😦  I got my mom a bar spoon, you know so she can make “a pitcher of martinis!”  I sure hope she’s sharing that pitcher!  That picture happens to be right after she tried to hang the spoon from my nose.  I told Joey this was a good looking picture and his response was that he always looks good, so no surprise.  So humble, that one.

We spent the second half of the day at Joey’s aunt and uncle’s.  There was homemade German Chocolate Cake and that’s all you need to know.  P.S. Penultimate episode of Mad Men… noooooo!

In other news, THE SUN IS BACK.  It’s supposed to warm up this week and I feel so good about that!
