Weekend Highlights

Kyla and Jay’s wedding on Friday night // Joey and his dad were wearing unplanned matching outfits, but more importantly, it was so amazing to celebrate the union of this sweet family ♥

Saturday lunch at Gorgeous Deli // I really did intend to go to the Farmers’ Market but then Saturday morning rolled around and lounging about sounded much better.  We compensated by riding our bikes to grab lunch at this new popup deli window.  I got a smoked beet sandwich and we shared a side of pesto potato salad and both were SO GOOD!

Afternoon movie time // Post lunchtime bike ride, we were HOT and nothing sounded better than a dark air-conditioned movie theater so we headed to the Alamo to see Sorry to Bother You and look, I don’t even know what to say about the movie but I will say it was super creative and definitely interesting, to say the least.  Mostly, being in the theater got us very excited for movie season.

Les Mis at the Buell // Second time seeing this show and I still thought it was incredible!  The performance of “One Day More” right before the intermission was so so good, but is there anything better than Fantine singing “I Dreamed a Dream”??  I say no.  It was Joey’s first time seeing it and declared it among his Top 5.

Dinner at Acova // This place just opened up within walking distance and though we’d been once before, we needed to go back with a bigger group to try the nachos.  I’m not a nacho aficionado but Joey said they weren’t cheesy enough.  Still, they have Melvin IPA on tap, my pierogis were delicious (albeit rich!) and we got to enjoy their outdoor patio on a Sunday evening, so I was happy.

What was the highlight of your weekend??

  1. What a happy post! I love Les Mis and I’m so happy you could catch it at the Buell. I was a little sad because I recognize that Deli door/window but it used to be a poke place I loved–things change so fast!
