How is it the end of June?? I cannot comprehend. I know this is supposed to be a post of weekend happenings, but since time is extra meaningless lately and I can’t seem to keep track of it, please excuse my random inclusion of things that happened before this weekend.

Our pup had an extra stressful week between a dental cleaning and back to back days of strangers making deliveries to our house. I feel for him, but I was also really excited to get a new fridge (no joke, the one that was here died two weeks after we moved in and we spent a week living from two mini fridges š©), our first real dining room table (it’s a beaut, just wait till you see it!) and a new mattress, that will hopefully allow me to sleep hip-pain free (or with less hip pain, at least). Also, I picked myself up an Illegal Pete’s burrito before I went to fetch him from the vet. They’ve been closed till now, so my first IP’s burrito since February was extra good!

Also this week, our 23-week appointment, aka the glucose test. I thought 23 weeks was sort of early to do it but when I double checked with my OB’s office, a nurse told me yes, I’d be doing it and then when I actually saw my doctor at the appointment she seemed confused that we were doing it so early. Oy! Anyway, for me, it was not the big deal that some people make it out to be. I’ve heard that drink described so many different ways but let me tell you one I’d never heard and feels the most accurate now that I’ve tasted it. Simple syrup! Joey tasted and decided he was going to make a cocktail with the rest later on š It was just two quick vials of blood (plus a fundal height measurement and a heartbeat check beforehand) and we were on our way. I also had my thyroid levels checked since I’m on medication for hypothyroidism. My doc called me Friday with both results and I passed, phew!
The rest of Friday was cloudy and rainy so ramen from Uncle it is! We’ve become so predictable. We also watched Malcolm X, which I’d been waiting to watch because it is THREE AND A HALF HOURS LONG. My energy basically expires at 9 PM (am I pregnant, old or just boring??) and most days, work and/or cooking dinner interferes with starting this movie at 5 PM š I just want to say that it’s a very good movie. I knew next to nothing about Malcolm X and I am painfully behind on my Spike Lee films, so I speak with very little credibility but I so appreciate Spike not dumbing down the people, events or issues he takes on in his movies. Plus he is just so good at attacking these deadly serious things with occasional moments of lightheartedness.

I think we planned on accomplishing some physical tasks on Saturday but then we spent most of the day poring over house decor and infant car seats on the internet instead. I’m sort of out on physical tasks at all these days anyway, so it still felt productive to me, but sheesh did it feel like it took a long time to get to the conclusion. Steve gifted us a very nice convertible cart seat that goes from newborn all the way to a booster for toddlers but we didn’t quite realize it didn’t disconnect from the base, so you can’t just carry sleeping baby from car to restaurant or stroller. We debated whether that was a big deal (will we even leave the house when he’s born and the Corona Virus is till roaming about??) but then I imagined myself driving to my parents and having to stand outside in the parking lot while I took baby out of the car seat and put him in… something else (??) to carry him up to their condo IN THE WINTER and that seemed like hell. So a second car seat it is.
We also put together our stoller — Andi FREAKED out when we were pushing it around the living room but he seemed to enjoy riding it in — and ate a pretty strawberry-basil chicken salad at our table like real adults. Isn’t it pretty?? We are still trying to decide on a chair but we ordered a rug to go underneath so we will wait to see what looks best with that.
Sunday! I woke up to Joey telling me he was off for a run and when he got back, we made a plan for one of us to pick up coffee and one of us to pick up breakfast sandwiches ⤠It was already getting hot so I hid inside and ordered groceries and then my mom came over to see our table and our stroller and our ever changing nursery color options. Plus we talked baby shower details and even though COVID is messing with things, I’m actually pretty excited about it! Who knows what I was doing for the rest of the day but Joey whipped our guest bedroom into shape and hung all the things we’ve needed hung and I’m very grateful for him.
We ate leftover turkey burgers for dinner (so good!!), took our pup on a walk and watched a few episodes of The Sopranos. We are somehow halfway through the last season! Gotta say, Vito cutting an onion was surprisingly impressive.
I hope your week is as good as it can be in these strange times!
