Memorial Day Weekend 2022

I am so tired from MDW! Anyone else?? We ate donuts, spent time with family, worked in our yard, walked the Bolder Boulder and maybe somehow still watched all seven episodes of Stranger Things.

I’m so happy that we are back to the Friday coffee walk time of year. It’s truly the best! We grabbed coffee at Downpours and donuts at Berkley Donuts and Dempsey kept turning around in his seat to tell me “more, more, more.” ๐Ÿ˜‚

Worked all day, then Joey and Dempsey picked up Biker Jim’s for us and they changed their fries again! They were kind of soft by the time we ate them but still good because all fries are good, right? After we put Dempsey to bed, we launched right into Stranger Things, but more on that later.

We took a post-pancake trip to Elliott Gardens on Saturday and got some Echinacea, strawberry plants, tomato plants and basil. Keeping it simple with the veggie garden this year and hoping squirrels do not destroy everything like they have the past two years. Steve and Lorna came over for dinner later on and Dempsey was putting them to work. He can refill a watering can and pour it into some dirt for hours on end ๐Ÿ˜‚

Um, this is the only photo I have from Sunday but I swear we did more than just eat peanut noodles. Mainly, we shopped for groceries in person and we do that so rarely nowadays that it’s a whole event. Got a bunch of stuff for our Memorial Day BBQ and then spent a bunch more time playing outside. It was on and off raining that evening, but Joey started building something that will hopefully protect our garden from squirrels and Dempsey is a good little helper, even if the sound of the saw scared him.

Memorial Day and the Bolder Boulder โค The race was back at the regular course and it was so so nice to be back. Joey and I couldn’t remember the last time we’d been to Boulder but it may have been for the BB in 2019! We picked up my sis and Wayne and drove close to the start line, where Joey dropped the four of us off and then went to park. We had time, so we hit a coffee shop near the start and Demps did not want to be contained ๐Ÿ˜‚ Finally my parents and Joey (Lori was sick ๐Ÿ˜ฅ) made it to the start, so we all made our way to the W wave. We’ve never walked the race before so it was a totally different experience! Everything is much more crowded by the time the walkers get there, so there were full on lines for stuff like the slip-n-slide or cotton candy or (shudder) keg-stands. But it also meant we got to see the men and women’s Elite runners go by in, which was so cool! Six miles is a long way for a toddler (and also for me and my poor hips and calves and feet!), so Joey carried him a lot of the time and my mom, sis, Wayne and I helped as best we could. We did put him down a few times but he’d end up dancing to the music being played on the sideline or getting distracted by a puddle in the street ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ We did eventually make it to the stadium though and it was the cutest thing when Dempsey was waving and clapping like all the people in the stands. We put him down to walk across the finish line on his own two feet and he had one hand in Joey’s and reached back to grab my hand with the other ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ

We got home, put Demps down for his nap, rested for a bit ourselves then cleaned up, just in time for everyone to come back over for a BBQ. The pre-made burgers from the WF butcher case are consistently good and my mom and sis made great side salads ๐Ÿ˜ After everyone left, we watched a few Pixar shorts with Demps (I remembered some of them from theaters in the early 2000s!) and once he was in bed, we watched the seventh episode of Stranger Things and basically this season was alternating moments of me thinking “is this bad?” and “I am addicted to this!” That last episode though!

Please tell me how your weekend was ๐Ÿ™‚
