Weekend Things

After two very busy weekends and some super windy weather last weekend, we finally had a weekend with no plans and beautiful weather πŸ₯°πŸ₯° It was just the four of us all weekend, which had me feeling equal parts fulfilled and exhausted come Sunday night πŸ˜‚

Dempsey asked me to take a photo of him and his sis on Friday morning but Lyds was too intent on holding her toothbrush under the water to be bothered with posing for a picture πŸ˜… They went to Grandma’s, I had my yearly eye exam then went home to work and later on, Joey picked them up then me and we headed to dinner at KikΓ©’s Red Tacos. Never again, you guys! Just kidding, but both of them were actually truly insane at this dinner. Dempsey’s new thing is to think chasing him around public places is a fun game and Lydia is just never still and never not grabbing everything on the table πŸ€ͺ That being said, those tacos were very good! Got them home, bathed and to bed before firing up Top Chef and this season is feeling a bit lacking right now 😬

I can’t believe how I literally cannot remember how any of us slept on any given night. Does that mean my brain is broken or just that none of it is worth worrying about? Who’s to say! I think Joey and… one of the kids was up earlier than me and the other one so he had pancake ingredients set out already when I came down. Sissy helped me mix up the batter (aka eating the batter from the spatula and crying every time she wanted more πŸ˜‚) and then we all sat down and ate them. A little doughy for my liking but they had almond butter in them because: Lydia passed her almond food challenge last week!!!!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ I honestly had been preparing my heart for her to have an immediate reaction to it, but she had absolutely no issues and seemed to love eating it too! I’m so happy. She can have almond butter & jelly sandwiches, almond milk, almond yogurt, almond flour, almond anything now!

After breakfast, I loaded them both up in the stroller and walked to the park so Joey could have some time alone to work in our back yard. I can’t remember if I mentioned this, but we are removing our veggie garden (three years and we just can’t get anything to grow back there) and making more room for the kids’ toys. They were so fun at the park. Dempsey was/is so cautious but is finally going down all the slides and up most ladders/stairs, while his sister is ready to just walk straight down any slide and off any drop πŸ˜¬πŸ˜… He loves going down the slides with her on his lap πŸ₯Ί And after they were so well-behaved at the park, I attempted to take them to the coffee shop but after a game of chase that was fun for one of us and embarrassing for the other, I bailed and took them (kicking and screaming, in Dempsey’s case) home. Lunch for all, nap for Sis, quiet time for Dad and Demps and reading/alone time for me before I made us all dinner and we ate AL FRESCO! Dempsey was so excited to eat out there “like we used to do!” 🀍 Post-dinner playtime before they both went up to bed and then Joey and I watched TV. Caught half of SNL and Ryan Gosling is simply the best!

Dempsey and I slept in on Sunday, so Joey and Lyds went and picked us up breakfast at Rise & Shine. The everything biscuit hit the spot! We just scheduled a baked milk food challenge for Lydia mid-May so maybe she could be eating a biscuit in the near future too?? A little bit later, Joey and I each went on a run then took the kids to the park, so by noon, we were both done for πŸ˜‚ Lydia took a 3-hour nap, so I guess she was exhausted too! I rallied and made salads, watched Detective Pikachu with Dempsey and cooked a dinner that neither of my kids wanted 😣 Joey and I liked it. After dinner, we played Hide & Seek (this is Dempsey’s favorite thing right now and he likes to tell me we should hide together and “find ourselves,” so it’s my favorite too!) then both kids got a bath and went to bed. We finished up SNL, almost finished up The Amazing Race and went upstairs to read. Happy Monday, everyone!
