Weekend Things

Another hot but fun summer weekend in the books! We hit up two parks, the Denver Chalk Art Festival and the pool, so we were all exhausted by Sunday evening and as for Lydia’s soccer career? I don’t think that one’s happening ๐Ÿ˜…

Headed to Fire on the Mountain for dinner on Friday and only threatened to not take the kids to the park afterward like 75 times before, uh, taking them to the park ๐Ÿ˜‚ Sauce of the Month is Blackberry Thai and wow was it good! We need to get back there at least one more time in June. Took the kids over to a park we’ve passed a few times recently and they’ve been asking to visit and they had a really good time. They mostly want us to chase them around pretending we’re various monsters lately ๐Ÿ˜‚ Got them home and into bed before watching a bit of TV and going to bed ourselves.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here but I haven’t been on a run since the end of last summer. I hadn’t been enjoying it and wanted to take a break until I felt like I missed it but uh, I hadn’t missed it until recently ๐Ÿ˜‚ So I went on Saturday morning and it was neither good nor bad. I did love that fresh summer morning feeling though, so I might give it another go. Afterward, sourdough waffles! Dempsey asked “Mom, did you use your bread pet for these waffles?” and I love what a good palette he has (most of the time anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰). Post-breakfast, we got ourselves together and walked over to the soccer field. My girl saw all of those kids and parents and was immediately out on soccer. She didn’t even want to wear her pink jersey ๐Ÿ˜ญ Got her to join in on a couple of drills but I think it’s going to be a looooong season. Dempsey ran into a classmate from last year, so the two of them had a grand old time! And he took all of those Sissy soccer photos too ๐Ÿฅน

Back at home, lunch, a mud pool (whyyyyyy) and we finished The Phantom Menace with Dempsey finally! He was briefly ready to bail when he realized he wasn’t sharing the experience with his sister (who was scared and watching something else on the iPad) (literally so sweet the way he kept leaning over and trying to explain the plot and characters to her) but then he dialed in. I was surprised by his sad reaction to Qui-Gon’s death, he even mentioned it a few other times this weekend. My sweet sensitive boy ๐Ÿฅน Fired up some pizzas for dinner and I just love a summer dinner al fresco! Joey and I started It was Just an Accident after the kiddos went to bed but we STILL haven’t finished it so I’ll have to report back later.

A Sunday breakfast delivery from Snooze! Joey is so smart to put that all together while I rolled out of bed slowly and then got the kids up. We all really loved that Celebration Pancake! Afterward, a hot trip to the Chalk Art Festival. The kids were pretty into it at the start but the hotter and more crowded it got, the more over it they were and actually, me too ๐Ÿ˜… We made one last stop at Kids Corner, where Dempsey and I drew some unusually-colored cherries and then we hightailed it out of there. Back at home, lunch and some chill time in the AC. Took a picture and myself and all my personal space on the couch ๐Ÿ˜‚ At 3, we headed to my parents’ pool and go figure, the clouds had rolled in by then. It was fine in the water, but coming out was chilly! The kids didn’t seem to mind, they were plenty occupied by Uncle Wayne and the “poodle noodles” Grandma bought ๐Ÿ˜‚ Later we got out for kiddo baths, chips and guac and dinner. My mom and I split a burger and a bratwurst, plus corn and for dessert, a lil ice cream sandwich. On the way home, I asked Dempsey what his favorite chalk drawing had been and of course he picked the one with a skull. I told him mine was a blue cherry with a green stem and the huge smile he had was worth a million hot and sweaty trips there ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ Lydia said her favorite part was getting a popsicle ๐Ÿ˜‚

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and is ready to jump into another week!
