Weekend Things

Many a mood and a ‘tude going on this weekend and can’t say I wasn’t also to blame πŸ˜… Props to Joey for holding strong, he’s forever our steady member of the family. Wonder how he puts up with us πŸ₯° All tantrums and overtired kids and dramatic proclamations aside (LOL at Dempsey laying on the ground saying he hadn’t done anything fun all weekend despite having a movie night, going to the zoo, visiting Spirit Halloween and eating a popsicle at 10 AM), it wasn’t all bad. Let’s take a look!

Friday actually started out so good, when Dempsey and I rode the bike bus to school and it was my favorite thing ever. Basically just a big group of kids and parents riding to school behind a volunteer playing music and pumping out bubbles. Dempsey was just soooo happy the whole time. We hope to do it again this Friday! Afterward, I walked to get my first PSL of the season and isn’t it ironic that the first one has to be iced because it’s too hot to even drink something warm πŸ˜‚ Afterward, I worked then picked Dempsey up from school.

Joey picked up Lydia and they both picked up pizza for all of us. Ate while watching the end of Return of the Sith. Look, we’ve watched all three Star Wars prequels in the past three months and I’ve quite literally lost the plot. I can’t remember what happened when, BUT I bet seeing Vader’s mask in profile on the big screen for those who saw it when it came out was SO COOL. I thought it was cool even just in my living room! Tough to get the kids to bed afterward when they were running around with light saber pens and pretending they’d lost an arm but we finally did it then caught up on two episodes of BB. I literally don’t know what these house guests are thinking πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

A Saturday of total shenanigans as both kids were on the struggle bus basically all day. It’s so amazing when your kids start school and you can do things like ride the bike bus together, hear them talk about friends they made, receive work they did in school and see how much they’re growing but sometimes it also means they’re having a tantrum about their snack bar breaking apart or how you won’t let them climb on top of your outdoor fire place or watch TV all day. You’ll see behavior you thought they grew out of two years ago, it’s wild. Anyway, both of my kids tried to bite me at some point in the day 😲 Quite literally, WTF?

Can’t say I was too sad I had to leave and go see Practical Magic 2 with my mom and sis. I thought the movie was okay but it suffers from what most legacy sequels suffer from, which is that all the stuff that moves/excites/interests me is just call backs or repeated scenes from the original and if given the choice, I would ALWAYS choose to just watch that one over any sequel. It was very reminiscent of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to me. That being said, I thought Sandra and Nicole were still SO good together (Sandra Bullock seriously one of our most gifted comedic actresses) and everything with the aunts was so emotional. Plus, I got to see it with my mom and my sister and isn’t that really the whole point?

Back at home, I had about 20 minutes before Joey got home from the zoo with the kids, crazy man that he is! He said they mostly had fun and Dempsey walked the whole time πŸ™Œ He made us pepper tofu for dinner and I’m sorry but I love a tofu dinner and so does my son. Got those crazies bathed/showered and into bed but I can’t say it was smooth or painless πŸ˜… Afterward, Joey and I watched Good Fortune and I’m just a sucker for the comedy stylings of Aziz Ansari. So not only was it funny, but the way it all unfolded was pretty interesting and quite the meditation on gig culture. Would recommend! “I used to be a celestial being and now I’m a chain smoker!” is not something I expected to hear Keanu Reeves say, but I genuinely laughed out loud.

Sunday started with workouts for both adults and then I got to work on some pork green chili. Once the kids were up, we all ate breakfast then headed out to the farmers’ market. We convinced Dempsey to ride his bike which meant I had to push my daughter in this tricycle with the touchiest steering wheel of all time. We were just weaving all over the sidewalk the whole way there πŸ˜‚ The kids got popsicles and sat near the performer listening to the music and I got coffee, candles, peaches (still??), a single stripey tomato and a bag of roasted green chilis that I stuck in the freezer for the future. Dempsey struggled the whole ride back, he was so hot and tired.

We let them rest for a while when we got back, then, after lunch, Dempsey and I snuck out to buy him some new shoes (Spoiler Alert: Joey had to drive back home not once but twice this morning on the way to school because both pairs were suddenly “too tight”🫠). We popped into Spirit Halloween too since it was right next door. Back at home, everyone played outside and then we ate our green chili for dinner and it was so good, even the kids ate it! Another hellish bedtime and then we watched Industry before our own bedtime. We only have one episode left!

Here’s to a less chaotic week ahead, please! Happy Monday πŸ˜€
