Weekend Things

Just jumping right into things today!

On Friday, I got my first blue manicure!  I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure a lunch hour mani is the working woman’s key to happiness.  Considering my nails are usually some color on the pink spectrum, blue is really different for me.  I’m not sure I’m into it, but I just needed a quick color to get me through this week before I go BIG RED (probably) for my trip to New Orleans this weekend!

Denver was abuzz on Friday night!  Rockies game, opening of the new A Line train from Union Station to Denver International Airport (you could ride for free that day), plus absolutely gorgeous weather had us Coloradoans in a good mood and itching to be out enjoying the sunshine.  My family went to Machete Tequila + Tacos to celebrate my sister’s 24th, which is weird because I always think of myself as 24 (scream face emoji).  I had two margaritas and definitely felt them.  Why do I always think the second drink is a good idea??

Saturday started with this adorable little mug, that yeah, I HAD to have.  It’s the perfect size for the teensy amount of coffee I drink in the morning.  Though I probably should have had three more teensy cups of coffee because I felt like I was in a fog all day long.  First, I napped, second I went on a run that lasted a block before it turned into a walk and third, I got a massage.  MISSING: ALL MY ENERGY.  IF FOUND, PLEASE RETURN IMMEDIATELY.  But seriously, it’d been so long since my last massage with Mom and it was so glorious.

We went to the game that night but stopped at Great Divide beforehand to grab their new Hibiscus Saison.  Not only was it a beaut, but it tasted amazing.  A dust storm kicked up while we were there, so the bar was packed but it just made for better people watching.  We made a second stop at Biker Jim’s for dinner before finally heading to the game.  I did not expect it to be as windy as it was and made the mistake of bringing a non-windbreaker, so I was pretty cold.  I did like when the girls next to me were decked out in Dodgers gear but were clapping for the Rockies on accident.  Such baseball fans! 😛

Sunday: iced coffee expedition, Pancake Sunday with The Kitchen playing (guys, Justin Warner made a nacho cheese volcano and this just in, he’s THE COOLEST), a redo of Saturday’s run, in which I actually made it three miles and felt great, a trip to the grocery, the Denver Flea, lunch prep for the week and OMGTHOSECRABCAKES.  We got crab at Whole Foods that came from Slidell, LA and Joey whipped those babies up and they were LUSCIOUSLY CRABBY.  Eaten while watching Game of Thrones.  It was like Christmas!

In much more somber news, my last living grandparent, my Grandpa Dorsey, is in the active dying process (a term I only heard for the first time on Saturday).  My dad had a trip to Ohio already planned and made it there just in time to spend these last few days with his dad.  He’s struggling right now but says he’s excited to see my grandmother again ♥

Wishing you all an easy week!

  1. Oh my goodness I haven’t gotten a manicure in FOREVER. Yours is gorgeous. I love that color! I’m sorry to hear about your grandpa. Losing a family member is never easy, but I take comfort in the long life they’ve had with all the memories they’ve given me. Will keep your family in my thoughts!

  2. LOVE that blue shade! It screams summer to me!

And I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. Will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. I’m so saddened to hear about your grandfather, but what a sweet sentiment he expressed about being reunited with his love. That surely is a silver lining. Still keeping you all in my thoughts.

And I think you rock the blue manicure! Once again, I must beg you and Joey to just come feed me–everything always looks mouth watering. Can Joey share his crab cake recipe? I have never attempted those, but it might be time.

    • Thanks so much, Kate! I’m going to link the crab cake recipe in a post later this week but it’s from the newest edition of Cooking Light (Simple Flaky Crab Cakes) and you must try it! I try to set my expectations low when I eat seafood in Colorado, but these were amazing!
