Guys. Yesterday was A DAY! We had too good of a Valentine’s Day last year — we found out I was pregnant the day before and broke the news to our parents and siblings on the 14th! — so we had to pay for it this year, I guess! I woke up at 6:30 AM on Sunday to Joey whispering “Happy Valentine’s Day, we have no heat.” We scrambled to find a repairman, on SUNDAY at SIX-THRITY AM, then got back to our breakfast plans but there were no delivery people available because it was -4 degrees outside and yeah, I wouldn’t want to be out driving around either! We found a back up and then breakfast and the repairman arrived at the exact same time. Meaning I ate breakfast upstairs (snuggling a baby, of course) while Joey was downstairs and then our smoke alarm started chirping, which set the dog off at the exact moment the baby was finally falling asleep. To top it all off, after the repairman left — he was able to rig up our heat so we could at least turn it on but we needed a new thermostat still — Andi went to the bathroom in our hallway. OY!

Back on Friday, my sis came over to watch Dempsey and we feasted on Yuan Wonton’s Lunar New Year menu for lunch. Seems that little baby loves going to sleep easily for everyone but Joey and I, ha! We made ricotta gnocchi for dinner then watched Judas and the Black Messiah. I really thought this movie was good, and I love Lakeith Stanfield, but I was so much more interested in Daniel Kaluuya’s character. That performance was SO compelling to me. And Dominique Fishback’s too! Not surprising, since she is SO SO GOOD in The Deuce.

Saturday started with a lively baby and then Joey took him downstairs and I came down a bit later and made us some banana fritters — my mom used to make these all the time, but I didn’t remember that we ate them with sugar instead of syrup — and in between naps, we did some cleaning, some Christmas ornament painting (don’t ask…), some grocery ordering, some laundry and then we collapsed on the couch. I wanted to get all our chores done so we could be free on Sunday but we definitely did not get to the cleaning of our four bathrooms. Why are there so many bathrooms??? We watched 21 Bridges that night and some of it felt like an episode of CSI (or what I imagine CSI to be since I’ve never actually watched) but I thought Stephen James was actually really good. Which mostly reminds me that I need to watch If Beale Street Could Talk again 😛 Dempsey was so sleepy and let me cuddle him in our bed for a bit. THE BEST.

Okay instead of reliving all the bad moments of Sunday let me show you the good parts. No heat means baby snuggles to keep warm. Dempsey was being so chill that morning and I loved it. Joey and I opened Valentine’s cards and presents to each other and Dempsey was mostly interested in the card. Our biscuit sandwiches from Denver Biscuit Company were so good! I texted my mom and sister to say “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” because my grandpa used to always say that 🙂 Left that Cuter Than Cupid baby and Joey at home while I got my hair cut and even though we almost just ordered Illegal Pete’s for dinner because we’d just had it with the day and didn’t know if we could make ourselves dinner, I re-grouped and knocked it out while Joey was buying yet another thermostat. Steak and potatoes never tasted so good! Joey got us hot chocolate bombs for dessert. I maybe felt really hot and thought I might throw up after I drank mine (ha ha!) but it tasted so good.
Please tell me you had a better Valentine’s Day!
